Having just returned from my first-ever week at the Royal Caribbean I can say the Royal Resorts definitely lived up to my expectations. I was traveling with former owners who hadn't been there in 7 or 8 years. They'd set my expectations quite high for both the service and appearance of the hotels, and I was not disappointed.

I was most impressed by the service … from bartenders to the front desk, everyone was helpful and pleasant. My lone complaint would be our concierge, who was both incompetent (e.g., she failed to make us the dinner reservations she'd offered to make for us) and annoying -- she tracked us down on several occasions at various locations throughout the resorts to try to set up sales-pitch meetings.

The grounds and facilities at the Royals are kept in excellent shape. The beach, as most have indicated, is another story. The limestone prevalent up and down the beaches at the Royal Caribbean, Islander and Mayan make it impossible to swim in the ocean. Unfortunately, I'm not sure the beaches will ever recover.

The crowd is mostly families, not a real singles scene. We went in June/July, however, when school is out, so probably less kids in Sept-May.

Highlights: El Conquistador (restaurant at the Mayan) was excellent both nights we ate there … Pacos Tacos is good … happy hour is 3-6 at all pool bars and the drinks are great and the crowd fun … Casino night on Tues. night at La Cabana (lobby bar at the Royal Caribbean) is fun … the "welcome party" on Sunday is a lot of fun and there are free drinks. … All of the pools are excellent and very warm.

Lowlights: Karaoke is mostly teenagers and drunk parents butchering horrible song selections (said in my best Simon Cowell voice). I would avoid it in the future. … The "orientation meeting" on Sunday morning runs a bit long and is mostly a sales pitch -- probably wouldn't attend it again.

Summary: GREAT hotel, very good food, excellent service, great location … I hope to return.

PM me with any questions.

Excellent Hotel. Staff very pleasant and helpfull. I travelled with a friend and 3 young children and the 2 bedroom suite was very spacious. The children's pool is very large and 2 feet deep so it was perfect for our 3 and 5 year olds. The younger couples and the older guests are on the other side of a building so you don't feel like you are bothering guests without children. The only negative is a big landscaped area in the middle so you can't see your children if they want to swim to the other side of the children's pool. The beach was very rough and the sand is not the white white sand that Cancun is known for. The kids didn't care and I was very happy sitting in a lounge chair under one of the many palapas on the beach. If I return to Cancun I would stay at this resort again.

Fabulous, amazing, perfect! We arrived early to the Royal Carribean and didn't expect to get into our villa for 3 hours. To our surprise the host asked us to wait only one hour. We went to the bar, enjoyed a few beers and before we knew it we were being escorted to our beautiful villa. The view from our room was amazing. We were over looking the pool and the ocean. It was a perfect place to sit down, relax, and read a book after becoming sun drunk. The villa was clean and comfortable. It was perfect.
The swim up bar was fantasitc. I am still dreaming of the Banana-monkies! Yum! Alfredo was the best swim up bartender. Of couse, the service outside of the pool was fantastic as well. I loved being waited on day in and day out. The service was excellent.
By the way, you won't miss an all inclusive plan at Royal. You use your room key as a psudo credit card all week. The key works at the Royal Caribbean, Royal Sands, Royal Mayan, and the Royal Hacienda. It also works at some surrounding restaurants. At the end of the week you get your bill. For the entire week of dining and drinking (a lot!) my bill was only about US$400.00. I was so incredibly pleased with the price.
In addition to the various restaurants that you can use your card at, you can also shop at the market inside of Royal Caribbean. They also allow you to shop at the Boutique located within the resort. It was the handiest little room key that I ever used. I loved it.
You will not be sorry that you stayed here. It's a wonderful place to relax.

2 weeks at RC is never enough. Clean as a whistle, friendly and accommodating staff. Location is perfect. The beach is getting better and better. It's a wonderful family-friendly place, love being able to eat at RI and RM as well. Flexibility is built in.

We stayed at the Royal Caribbean on a time share exchange, from 05/17 to 05/24/08; our second stay at a Royal property in Cancun. We pre-arranged our hotel transfers with Thomas More Travel, Royal's in-house travel agency; our transfers being billed directly to our resort account.

The Royal Caribbean is one of five Royal properties in Cancun; situated between the Royal Mayan and the Royal Islander. The resort has 207, 2BR-2BA, 1,448 s.f., ocean-view villas. The villas are well furnished and laid out perfectly for two couples and/or a family of six. On each side of the living area/full kitchen are a bedroom, bathroom and huge walk-in closet. The floor plan optimizes privacy for two couples. The kitchen is fully furnished and equipped with everything needed to prepare/consume meals. The villas are equipped with three televisions, CD-DVD player, two large safes, air conditioning, internet (dial up access @ $30 per week), iron and ironing board. The master bedroom is furnished with a comfortable king size bed, the 2nd bedroom has two double beds and there are two Murphy beds in the living area. Each villa has two balconies; a large, furnished balcony that can be accessed from the living area or the master bedroom and a small "step-out" balcony that can be accessed from the 2nd bedroom.

The Royal Caribbean has all the amenities you'd expect to find at a luxury resort: 24-hour front desk, huge swimming pool with swim-up bar, exercise room (fee), beauty shop (the Spa is located at the Royal Sands resort), gift shop, laundry room, guest service/business center, small children's playground, sports/activity desk (snorkel gear, golf clubs, tennis racquets, bicycles, beach towels, etc.), car rental office, travel office, lobby bar, and convenience store. There are two computers (fee) in the convenience store and there is free wireless access in the lobby. The Royal Yacht Club (off-site) offers complimentary sailing lessons and free use (one hour per day) of sail boats. Unlike other time share resorts, maid service is provided daily (except Sunday); however housekeepers do not clean the kitchens. "Spring-breakers" are discouraged from staying at the Royal Caribbean and are put on notice that un-acceptable behavior will not be tolerated (one guest in each villa must be at least 25 years of age). The resort staff appeared to be enforcing the posted rule regarding the saving of un-attended lounge chairs around the pool.

The on-site restaurant, Tradewinds, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The "Tradewinds Express" offers chicken, ribs, sandwiches, salads, etc. to go and provides free delivery. Pizza is also available from Bartolo's. There are additional restaurants at the neighboring Royal resorts (Royal Mayan and Royal Islander), as well as at the Royal Sands. Free, inter-resort shuttle service (except Saturday) allows you to enjoy the facilities at all five Royal resorts in Cancun. The shuttle also stops at Captain's Cove restaurant (accross the street) and Hacienda Sisal restaurant (at the Royal Sands). Meals at the above restaurants can be billed to your resort account. We dined once at the Tradewinds and had chicken and pizza delivered on another occasion; both experiences being a little disappointing (greasy French fries, dried out chicken and one of the worst pizzas I've ever had). We also dined at Captain's Cove. Everyone in our group enjoyed our seafood, although it was a little expensive. The day after we arrived, we took the 65 cent bus ride into town and bought a week's worth of groceries at the Wal-Mart Super Center (there is also a Sam's Club next door), returning to the resort by taxi ($14). Food at Wal-Mart was about 1/3 the cost of the resort's convenience store.

Although the strong winds that prevailed throughout the week rendered the ocean unsafe for most people, the beach was beautiful none the less. The resort has dozens of palapas with lounge chairs and there was a beach life guard on duty.

Service at all levels (housekeeping, wait-staff and front desk) was excellent and the resort was well-maintained. Despite my disappointment with the food quality, I would definitely return to the Royal Caribbean.

Feel free to contact if you have any questions.
