“Service was great, location was great, loved it!”

I just got back last night from Cancun. We stayed at the Royal Mayan and it was excellent! I hate sitting in my cubicle today when just yesterday I was on the beach. Anyway, the place was fantastic! The service was wonderful. Everyone was so nice, helpful, friendly, and just went out of thier way to make you feel at home. the pools were pretty cold though, but you could go next door and thier pools were heated (and a great pool bar). The crowd is a bit older (we called them visors, haha). My group was between 28 and 32 and we didn't see many people our age at all. But the bars and nightlife are a short bus ride (and cheap at .65 a trip) so it was fine. The happy hour was amazing cheap. I drank and ate all week for $125 US!! not bad at all. The beaches were so clean and nice. I would stay there again in a heart beat! Wish I was still there for sure!

“stayed two summers”

Royal Mayan

We stayed in two different condos at the Royal Mayan for 2 summers. The first time was the time of our lives! We had the best views and the best family vacation you could ask for! The place is beauitiful beyond compare (even to the Sands) and has all kinds of amendities and offers for a family. We paid $1000 for the week in early August. A year later wanting to repeat the perfect family vacation, we rented through theownersmanual.com for $1100 for the same week. Our room, while had the same amenities, per say, was on the lagoon side, (which the owners failed to mention and I did not realize existed) our third floor condo overlooked the parking lot and was filled with bus fumes while the other happy visitors were shuttled back and forth between royal resorts. The condo REEKED of smoke and open windows reeked of bus fumes. Since we were renting from an owner, Royal Resorts did nothing, in fact refused to even take our calls. We had at that time an offer on a timeshare at the Royal Carribean in the makings that we quickly got out of when we returned to Ohio. I would never purchase with Royal Resorts, especially Vincent, after our experience. I saw what would happen to our leasees if we did not use our timeshare. I would not with that out our worst enemy.

“always a royal pleasure.....”

Royal Mayan

We were here October 7- 14 2006. We are a family of four with two children ages 6 and 1. We traveled with another family of four with children of the same ages. This resort was perfect! My husband and I went on our honeymoon here five years ago and it was so nice to be able to experience it again with our children and friends! We stayed in J-1140. It's a two bedroom suite with full kitchen, etc. Besides two full bedrooms with their own bathrooms, there are two murphy beds that easily come out of the wall in the livingroom. We put the six-year-olds out here and they seemed to enjoy that! The balcony scared me at first as I thought that it might be dangerous for the babies. We simply had the royal mayan staff remove some of the extra patio furniture that we did not need so that the children could not push chairs up to the rail. The staff was so nice and understanding about my paranoia! Cribs were also available and delivered upon request. There was plenty of room and we never felt crowded even with 8 people, cribs, strollers, beach toys, etc.! We LOVE the Royal Mayan. There is absolutely no sign that a hurricaine ever went through here! The pools are perfectly maintained and clean. The restaurant at the pool is to DIE FOR! The kids love the quesadillas and if you drink during happy hour which is from 3 until 7 I believe, you can save a lot of money! Just say no until 3! The beach at the Royal Mayan is the most beautiful in Cancun! We have been to lots of areas in Cancun and this beach rocks them all! The waves are a little rough so we brought life vests for the kids and so when they got knocked over by the waves, they just pop up to the surface. Very convienent I must say! We went to Xcaret one day and it was SO MUCH FUN! I have visited before and after Wilma and there is no change that I could see. Since we had a party of 8, we booked our tickets and transportation through Thomas More Travel in the lobby and it was less expensive for us to hire our own driver and van through them than to take the bus and pay for 8 tickets. The van an driver was ours ALL DAY LONG. After Xcaret, we had him take us to a lovely restaurant in Playa Del Carmen where we had a yummy yummy dinner. The driver was great and he even had a cooler for us to keep our water cold, diaper bags could stay, strollers, etc. It was quite the luxury having our own van and driver and I would recommend it especially with children in carseats!!! Such a great deal. The van for the day was about $220.00. Worth EVERY PENNY. We also went to Walmart to get our groceries. This was a fun excursion as we took the city bus. It was a real cultural experience and very fun for all! I think we saved some money because we bought a lot of food and cooked lots of meals in our kitchen. Beer is only a few cents cheaper at walmart than at the grocery store at the Royal resort though so spare your back and buy your beer and water at the resort!!! Walmart has a great selection of local seafood and beef though so stock up on that as well as cereal and mac & cheese for the kids. There is even a medical doctor on the premisis. Don't hesitate about staying at the Royal Mayan, Royal Carribean, or the Royal Islander (all connected). They are the best of the best in every way! Have fun and can I go with you???? Thanks!

“The Best on Planet Earth”

There is no where else on Earth, and certainly nowhere else in Cancun, that I would rather stay than at the Royal Mayan... For me, there is nothing as nice as when I arrive, and it is always sad to leave, but not so sad because I always know I will be back (I bought my first week at the Royal Mayan in 1985, and I bought 3 more weeks since then...) Any one of the Royal Resorts is great, but to me the Royal Mayan is the best among equals. The restaurants are the best, the location is the best, the landscaping is the best, the pools are the most beautiful... everything is the best.

We just returned from a weeks stay at the Royal Mayan from Nov. 18th through the 25th. This was an exchange through Interval. I can see why all the Royal properties are rated in the top 10 for timeshare properties. They truely get it. The grounds are constantly groomed and cleaned. There are still little exterior maintenance jobs going on to fix Wilma damage, but the noise and obstructions were kept to a minimum.
The room was a spacious 2 bedroom suite on the first floor F120. It has only a few of the Japanese garden. For an older resort it is amazing how ell maintained the room was. The furniture was comfortable and the bed was a perfect firmness. The kitchen was as complete as can be even with a dish washer. For the number of items you need to inventory it was amazing that the number came out correct. The maid service was Tue through Sat. due to a Mexican holiday. I never have seen a more through cleaning of a room on a daily basis before. It was spotless and she even did the few dish we had out for us. One day we caused the safe to malfunction and it only took about 15 min for maintenance to respond and fix it for us. The front desk even called to check if it was taken care of right after. The only thing the rooms need to have are sliding screen doors so you can leave them open without bugs coming in.
The beach is beautiful and the waters so beautiful. The waves are a little ruff so be careful when swimming. There are numerous shells that wash up and are fun to collect on a morning stroll. The resort has some beach activities such as vollyball, horseshoes, and bocci as well as beach bar service.
While staying at the Mayan you have the run of the house of the 2 other connected Royal resorts and a free shuttle to the Royal Sands. Your room key acts as your credit card as no money is exchangeed until checkout. Not one accounting mistake was made on our bill when we checked out. How often does that happen in Mexico? All the resorts offer activities for guest of all ages. Our son enjoyed the kids activites run by Aisha a new employe. She was great with the kids. For Adults they had several welcome parties and a taco luncheon for free and kids pinata and going home party. For clubbers the resort has a nightly club hopping for $30 to $40 trip which gets you in and all you can drink.
The pools were nice but a little cool because of the poor Nov. weather. The Mayans is not heated but the other 3 are. We would swim and louge at the Carribean pool durring the moring and afternoon were it was close to the kids activities and the pool vollyball. At 3:00 we would go to the Mayan pool for happy hour since it had the best pool bar service( thanks Basillio and crew) and got the last rays of sun before the buildings blocked it.
The food at the resort was great. The breakfast buffet for $10 and $5 for kids was very good and well stocked. Javier the omellete/pancake chef was great. The resorts has a great pizza and lunch snacks for pool side dinning. The only dinner we did at the resort was at El Conquistador which deserves it's 5 star rep. Get reservations since it's has limited seating. Captains Cove just reopened but we did not dine there. Other spots we dined at was Lorito Joes, a good meal with a fun staff. The Cove which has a nice view of the bay side seemed to be a good lesser know spot. La Dolce Vita was our Thanksgiving stop and was spot on. The best spot was La Distilleria. Great Mexican dishes and fine Tequila. The food was so Flavorful and you wont leave hungry. Once again all places provided great service.
The only negative to out trip was mothernature. It was cool, cloudy and windy the first few days. By Tue it started to get better except for the wind, and we made the most of the sun.
We did the Carribean Carnival cruise to Isla Mijures for the evening show. It was nice and the crew was a lot of fun. They were so accomodating when our son fell asleep during the dinner part. They made a couch for him to sleep on and helped carry him back on board the boat at the end.
We will go back to Cancun this summer for 2 weeks to explore more. I was very impressed with the Royal Mayan and it deserves it's well earned rep. It is not a party spot for young kids and they will let them know that. It's a family place most of which are long time owners. The guest are friendly and a pleasure to talk with. The Royals treat all guest as family and don't say good bye, just see you next year.
