Perfect place, great hospitality from staff, nice rooms, restaurants are good too, it's a must see!
Stayed at the property during January of this year. Overall the hotel is nice, but the beach was extremely rocky. The pool area was great and wasn't too busy on weekdays.
The staff was pleasant for the most part, but we did encounter a couple of waiters at the "upscale" restaurant that were not friendly.
We used the on-site travel agency to book a couple of tours and felt it was worth the price.
The ocean view room was fantastic and we will enjoy the memories of the stay there. However, I think the room rates are slightly overpriced. Also, drinks were very expensive and buying anything in the convenience store was spendy (luckily there is a little store across the street). If we visit Cancun again we will try another property - perhaps all-inclusive.
I didn't really want to like this hotel. We had just come from staying ten days in two small Mexican owned hotels and I was kind of dreading the whole chain hotel thing.
When we arrived in our very dusty small rental car full of sand and shells and drink bottles, the door man kindly loaded it all up on the luggage cart, all with a smile. I think he counted 14 different pieces of luggage including plastic grocery bags.
Upon check in the front desk told us our room would not be ready. This was the one flaw with the hotel, the front desk was not very friendly. We had told the rental car agency to pick up our car at twelve at the hotel and check in was not until four. So they us had go through our bags in the middle of the lobby looking for bathing suites, towels etc, telling us our room was not ready. Not a pleasant site. Kindly some staff came to our rescue and demanded from the front desk that we be given a hospitality room to change in. It turned out that this was our room and they were just going to make us wait the four hours for the sake of it.
Hmmm. We got an o.k. room that we could not deal with and upgraded ourselves for quite a cheap price to oceanfront (way nicer than ocean view), very well worth it. We had stayed ocean front the other ten days and we couldn't give it up!
We took the bus everywhere, it is so beautiful to sit on the bus and look at all the other hotels. It is a beautiful area to take the bus. We personally did not mind the couple minute walk up from the main road.
We went to the Japanese restaurant and enjoyed the sushi.. The rice was perfect and the fish very fresh. We only ordered raw sushi and did not try anything else. Well, maybe the wine.
We ended up really enjoying our stay, it was very relaxing.
We left an all-inclusive mid-trip because I missed the luxury of soft beds, puffy down blankets and pillows and great food!! I couldn't take the all-inclusive any longer, so....on a whim, I made a reservation at the Casa Magna. Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed. At check in, I got upgraded to an ocean front room which was just fantastic. The room was gorgeous: perfect bedding, decor, gorgeous bathroom with robes and slippers and the view? It couldn't have been more perfect. Every other ammenity was there, next to the plasma tv with English channels.
Something good has happened to Marriott in the last 5 years: it seems they have stepped up the level of service and raised the bar all around. This property was no exception! After check in, we headed to the pool where a gracious gentleman came over to introduce himself and welcome us to the property. He offered us drinks and lunch which were then delivered to us on the beach, under a shady palapa. This kind of service continued throughout our stay. I didn't want to leave...
I had heard that the beach was washed away by Hurricane Wilma. No problem here....the beach was perfect - ideal for walking and plenty of room to find the perfect spot to lounge in. The surf was rough, but the kind of swimming we (my daughters and I) love. I stayed in the water for long periods, and could rinse off in the fresh water showers ideally located right at the edge of the beach. Just watch out for the rocks at the edge of the beach in front of the resort.
Everyone at this hotel was delightful, from housekeeping to the
concierge. If you are looking for a great get-away, I can't imagine not considering this property. Prices are reasonable, the food in the restaurants is great and the service is A-1. I will return!
this hotel was the best hotel on the strip for realz! one of the days it rained, we decided to hotel hop and realized we really got the best deal for our buck...depsite the cheap price and deal, it's the nicest hotel and ritz really got nothing on this hotel. beautiful lobby, great customer service, food was pretty good...drinks a lil weak...wasn't too favorable for singles but it was an all girl trip so, not a problem. this hotel is now our standard when we look for another hotel :)
