Stayed at the Park Royal from March 8-15th in a Presidential Suite. We were a family of 4 adults and a 12 year old boy. We had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a laid-back atmosphere in which to soak up the sun, surf the waves and relax. The hotel lives up to the many favourable reviews others have written. It is impeccably clean, the staff are all very nice and the food was very good. Here are my thoughts by category:

BUFFET: Never mind the naysayers who didn't like the buffet. People who want mega choices at every meal should go stay at a mega resort! The food is of high quality and there was sufficient choice at every meal to please everyone in our party. Plenty of shrimp, fish and seafood (calamari, octupus, mussels, etc.) presented in varying ways (either as a soup, in the salads or on their own). The last day's buffet lunch they served the most tender sole stuffed with seafood! One day at lunch they had a huge New York slab of beef they were slicing up. Plenty of chicken dishes and mexican fare as well. The quacamole at the buffet was very tasty and it is the only place in the resort where you can get it.

A LA CARTE: We ate at the Italian restaurant 3 nights during our stay and each experience was just awesome. The grilled steak, the Mahi Mahi, the seafood pasta, the chicken parmigiana - all EXCELLENT! The antipasto/salad bar was most surprisingly good. The wines also very good and the waiters will make you special coffees if you ask - they are not listed on the menu. Very attentive service from the moment we walked in to the minute we left.

POOLS: Are on the small side but were never crowded. The deck chairs go quickly (in the prime spots) but there was never an issue finding somewhere to sit close by.

BEACH: Very nice - lots of chairs and loungers. A life guard is on duty and keeps a good eye on what's going on in the water. The surf is rough and not good for very small children, except perhaps on a very calm day (otherwise it is just too windy a location for the surf to be calm).

BARS: All good - the pool bar has some nice bankette type seating that is in the shade. The bar near the beach has a whole patio with shade where you can sit with your drink and the snacks you got from the nearby Le Jardin snack bar and watch the ocean and feel the cool breeze. The lobby bar is very nice as well, but too smokey for my liking. It is the only bar that is enclosed and that's why I noticed it so much.

ENTERTAINMENT: Practically non-existent. They do have some pool side activities during the day and they try hard, but there really isn't the space to do a lot of stuff. The PA system could use an overall. We played Bingo one afternoon, but didn't catch any nighttime activity at all.

CLIENTELE: As one other reviewer has mentioned, we were surprised to see March/Spring breakers at the hotel, but they really didn't detract from our holiday in any way. There is no nightime activity at the hotel so I'm assuming they left for other, more exciting environments since I can't say I ever was disturbed by any rowdiness, other than the first day they arrived and drank up a storm at every bar in sight! Other guests were couples, with and without children, some young and some old and some in-between. Lots of Spanish speaking guests at the hotel as well.

And last, but not least, the STAFF:

What an amazing group of people. Do not pay attention to those comments about communication being a problem. In the restaurants ( both buffet and a la carte) the waiters spoke very passable English, certainly much better than my feeble attempts at speaking Spanish!. They were there at your table within seconds (okay, sometimes a minute) to take your drink order. At breakfast they offer you toast and bacon for the table and juice (but you can always get your own juice from the buffet) and arrive with coffee (which they leave at your table) once they've served you.

TIPPING: We tipped more than we ever have on other holidays. They absolutely deserve it and are so thankful for whatever you provide so you don't mind giving a little extra. We were 5 people and in total we may have tipped about $100 for the week.

That's it - if you've got specifics to ask let me know and I'll try my best to get back to you.

We just returned from our stay at the Park Royal. Our stay was very much worth the long layover to get to our destination. We had a great time. The buffet was not that great, but aside from that it was very nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They did thier best to make it an enjoyable stay for all. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

They welcome you with a fruit punch drink during check-in which is wonderful and helps you relax after your trip. The staff is fantastic.
Pool was relatively small, but clean and pleasant. Kids pool was a joke-tiny little circle. We chose this resort because it was reviewed as family friendly. We brought our 3-ages 7, 4, and 2. We did not find that there was much for them to do. My 7year old was able to scuba dive in the pool for $33 which was nice. We also recommend the aquarium across the street where you can pet sting rays.
We did not think that the spring-breakers would chose this hotel, but we were wrong. It was a relatively heavy spring-break location. College kids crowded the all-inclusive bars like they had never had a drink. It made the wait times up to 20 minutes for a soda! Also, lots of behavior that we would have rather the kids not see.
The staff was very friendly and pleasant and the rooms were cleaned to perfection. There is a lot of heavy construction being done on the building next door, so the even number rooms get a full view of it. But, if you keep your sliding glass door closed, it is totally soundproof. The beds were pretty comfortable.
The food at the buffet was pretty bland and repetitive. Breakfast was the best. You can ask for toast and bacon to be brought to your table in addition to the regular buffet for no charge. They just don't advertise this. They have a nice Italian restaurant, but warning: men must wear pants. Also, you have to be over 12 to go. The ride from the airport will cost you $50.00. The ride back to the airport will cost you$25.00. We lost two items-stuffed animal got taken with the sheets and goggles by the pool-and BOTH were returned to us at the lost and found. I got sick with bronchitis and the hotel was great about paging a doctor and sending him up. He was really nice but double charged our credit card after we left Mexico. We paid him 1/2 cash so I can guess what happened. So now we have to dispute it.
The beach was clean but pretty pitched so it is a hike if you are carrying a lot. Also, the water was rough in most spots and the red flags were out, making beach swimming limited at best.

Just got back from Park Royal....wonderul place! Very satisfied and would recommend to anyone. We have spent three times as much for fancier hotels and the experience was no better. The Park Royal is definitely a gem! Immaculately clean, wonderul service, friendly people. Small but not too intimate either. Plenty of room on the beach. The food was good and the drinks were plentiful, and not watered down. We were not approached by a single timeshare person once. The beach was incredible! The surf was fun to play in. The Mayan Temple on the grounds was an added bonus. Staff were always cleaning and attentive. We have been to several resorts in Cancun, and this was the only that did have that "moldy smell." We wanted a Presidential Suite, but they were all booked so I would recommend if you want one, to book it in advance....well worth the extra money.
There is a wonderful shopping mall right across the street, definitely worth going to. It's a mixture of high-end stores and afforable souvenir shops. Make sure you take the bus instead of a taxi if you go anywhere, it's only $1 per trip.
The only down side is that there is no entertainment at night, but if you're looking for that, it's nearby downtown. We went there to relax, and the place was not full of spring breakers or any rowdiness. We never heard a peep in our room. There was always security around and we felt very safe.
All in all, the Park Royal was great and we are definitely going back!!! I would recommend this place to anyone.

Just got back last night from the Park Royal. When we checked in, I asked for a ocean view, they said I had an ocean view room, when I room was ready, it was not ocean view. It took two days before we got our ocean view. The view was great. The rooms are very clean. The maids always said hola, and smiled at you. The beds are very hard.
The food was very good. They have a little hamburger and hot dog stand during the day. The pizza wasn't that great. They also had chips and cheese, ham and cheese sandwiches. Those were also good. The breakfast buffet had large variety food. scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, fresh fruit, rolls, they will make your omelet they way you like it. The waiter will asked it you want toast and bacon. The El Mirado was very good. Make sure you go hungry, they give you a lot of food.
The bartenders at the bar by the adult pool were a blast. We found that the bartenders at the pool bar were not as much fun. Lobby bar was also fun. There was no waiters on the beach, you have to go get your own.
I noticed the pool chairs fill up faster then the beach chairs, which was ok by me, I was there for the beach. The beach does have some banks in it. Drink a little to much, you have a hard time getting up the bank, then you have people who will put their chair on the little walk path to get up the banks, why I have no idea.
We did miss the nights that they take you down town to the bars. I was told they only do it on Sun and Wed nights. They did try and call to see if they could still get us in and they couldn't. I thought that was very nice of them to try.
I told them at check out that we would not be leaving right away and they let us keep our bands on and asked that we come and have them cut off before we leave.
Not much for kids to do there. I was glad I did not bring my kids, they could have been bored. They did do some games at the pool, but it was hard to understand them.
It was a great time because we made it a great time, I would say go and have FUN in the sun.
