My boyfriend and i have just returned from this hotel, and having read the reviews before travelling, we were worried. I've got to say that the reviews telling people not to go are a bit over the top, but ive got to admit that we did experience some of what they say.
The rooms are clean and basic, what you pay for. Water from the taps is dirty to start with, but once they've been running for a bit it's perfectly fine to wash with.
Food in the buffet restaurant is extremely limited. Even my boyfriend struggled some evenings and that saying something. Thinking i couldnt go wrong with lasagne, it turned out to be shrimp lasagne. This was the main problem in the restaurant, a lack of signs to say what the food actually is!! Food quality is fine once you've found something to eat. We really liked to mediterranean restaurant, often eating there for lunch and dinner. This is what's so silly, they're capable of producing a good variety of food, from italian in this restaurant, to good mexican in the speciality restaurant, but they don't show this in the buffet restaurant. The snack bar at the pool was also good, hamburgers and nachos were fantastic. Gotta admit i filled my stomach here before the evening meal!!!
We found the service at the bars fantastic, particularly the lobby bar. Domingo was one of our favourite members of bar staff. However, the swim up bar in the pool was a let down, only staffed for two days in our 14 day stay. Getting a drink in the buffet restaurant was also a struggle, staffed seemed to serve all the mexicans before us!!!
The pool, beach and location was fantastic. This hotel is definately in the best location in Cancun, just a two min walk to the main bars and clubs, and a short bus ride to most tourist locations. The beach was by far the best on the stretch, and was always kept clean. Even after strong winds and rain, each bit of seaweed was swept up and moved off the beach.
The thing that majorly lets this hotel down is the customer service, namely from the staff at the reception. When trying to change money to give to our rep for tours, we were told that we would have to come back in half hour cos he had no money. We told him that we couldnt wait cos our rep wouldnt still be there in half hour. Again we said we'd have to wait. Argueing once more, he gave in and changed our money, having money all along!!!! I'd definately recommend using the bank to change your money, just a two min walk!!
We had more problems with reception!! 2am one morning our smoke alarm in our room started beeping, every hour. The battery was dead. We told reception the next morning, and were told they would sort it out. That evening, returning to our room, nothing had been done about the problem. Again the next day, speaking to a different staff member, he said he would replace the battery. He put the same battery back in. We reported the problem 5 times and nothing was done about it, putting our safety at risk!!!
Our trip to Cancun was fantastic, the tour to Isla Mujures with a trip to dolphin discovery was by far the highlight of our holiday. We would definately return to Cancun, but we would probably spend more money and stay at a different hotel. If they improved their food choice and customer service, this hotel could easily improve its star rating.

“Brill holiday!”

Arrived at the hotel on the 31st August and got back on Monday. Without realising we booked two rooms on the 2nd floor in the VIP section, had only cost £50 more when we had booked it and although we weren't officially VIP's and couldn't use the facilities (which was literally the 2nd pool and jacuzzi, plus a separate bar) the room was lovely- marble flooring, huge bathroom, double beds each, plaza tv, fridge, fully working A/C. Ony dwnfall- no balcony. But you can request a balcony as there are rooms with them.

The beach looked like paradise, the sea was stunning, although watch out for seaweed!! You get towel cards, but be careful not to lose them as charge you.

Constantly cleaning the hotel, rooms cleaned every day...

You can hire out a safety box that is in your room in the wardrobe, but they do charge you, for 2weeks it cost us 40dollars, around £20.

Only downfall was the food, but 2 of us were ill in the 1st week due to eating fish, so thats properly why we were all slightly more careful. Literally stuck to bread, potatoes, rice in the 2nd week. But all inclusive food will always become samey after 2weeks of eating it! Pancakes for breakfast are good, aswell as the omlettes. KFC and pizza hut are a 2 minute walk away though! And there are lots of nice restaurants in the town centre.

The hotel is perfect location, we were in walking distance to the main part of town, took 10 minutes to get to the nightlife. But buses are regular, 24hrs and v.v.cheap.

I would def recommend the hotel, it is reasonably priced and you get what you pay for, there was a mixture of people there from young groups of people, to families, to couples!

I don't agree with the negative reviews written by some vacationers you really can't please everyone. But I have been going to the beach there before it went all inclusive. I have been there in the 1980's and I always wondered what it would be like like to stay at the hotel.

This will be my fourth stay in January and I really like the staff and the food servers have always been polite and ready to accomodate you. The only draw back has always been with the elevators but then again walk the stairs its good exercise. Its a great location for other restaurants to try when you get bored eating at the hotel.

I look forward to going in January. For other travelers don't be afraid
you will have a beautiful ocean front view not to mention the warmth of the great Mexican people

“Enjoyed our stay!”

Oasis Viva Beach Resort

11 Sep 2008

I read all the other reviews before i went and was a bit worried that I had booked into such an awful hotel.
How wrong was I!!!
We had a lovely time. Location was great and the beach was fantastic as was the sea itself.
Staff were as you would expect anywhere in the world some great some not so.
Hotel was constantly being cleaned as was the beach when we'd had a little rain so very impressed with that.
This is a 3+ star hotel according to our travel agent and that is exactly what we got.
Food was lovely lots of choice in the buffet.
Please dont have super high expectations as they will not be met.
But equally dont be put off by other bad reviews it really isnt that bad.
We had a great time and I highly recommend a vist to Coco Bongos what a brilliant night!!!!

I am not one to give negative reviews< but i had to tell you guys & girls..My wife and I stayed at this hotel from Aug 24 -31st, and i must say this is the worst place we have ever stayed..first and formost the front desk people are RUDE..our room didnt have a simple clock in it nor iron, you have to pay FOR YOUR SAFE ON A DAILY BASIS,there are 2 elevators which are very hot, and only 1 works most of the time.the front lobby is a sauna..you have to upgrade to VIP IN ORDER TO USE A JAQUZZI...the food is a 2.5 outta 10...french toast in the morning is made from left over hoggie bread the night before, the water in there buffet restaurant is disgusting..i have been to a lot of resorts which i love but this one was absolutly the worst..if ever you are goin to CANCUN trsut me, stay away from this one..i think this attiude comes from to many spring brakers...by the way the front desk will consatanly lie..
