clean hotel with decent amenities at the intersection of two major roads a bit at the edge of downtown. even though i stayed on the side of the hotel away from the road and had only a small window facing the court yard., the noise from the road still wafted in. need to take bus (right outside, apparently runs 24/7) or other transpot to hotel zone / beach / downtown. computer with free internet available. bar. breakfast buffet $6. a/c. small pool. would recommend taking the ferry (pretty close) to isla mujertes instead of going to cancun

This hotel is downtown which didn't bother me as there are a lot of inexpensive restraunts and taco stands near by. I have been to Cancun before and wanted to stay away from the tourist zone and get some culture on this trip. The area has some apartment buidings which we called the projects near by with some grafitti. The neighborhood is safe, we walked up and down the streets late at nigtht without problems, everyone we ran across was real nice. The hotel is constructed of block and tile so the sounds bounce all over and it can be noisy, I always travel with ear plugs so it didn't bother me. The rooms were simple and VERY clean! The staff was also terrific, they would make phone calls to order dinner for us. The location was okay but it did take a while to get out of town on our excursions, 930 miles in 8 days. I have driven in Mexico many times and every trip is full of adventure! Make sure to visit my new bud Hector at the Corona stand next door for $.70 beers, tell him Mike from San Diego say's hello!!
Overall a great stay!

We´ve been there last December two nights before leaving the Mayan Riviere zone, and it was a nice and pleasant surprise. Rooms were very clean, not luxury just OK, TV Cable, AC and the best: Restaurant has excelent Food at Very Reasonable prices, i recommend if you are good eaters a "Mariscada" for two persons, with many shrimps, crab meat and other sea foods with lemon and salads, two coronita beer included for only about 20 dollars.
We rented whit avis a car and moved easily to the Hotel zone at night Coco Bongo, many Bars Discos and shopping malls, also by the day you can Explore the beaches aroud the 20 kms of hotel zone. Many OXXO stop and go, selling ice cold Sol beer.
Excelent place if you are looking for something affordable, no good for Snobish people.
Also google terracaribe Cancún, booking directly in the Hotel website icost us about 40 USD for two persons room. Great deal¡¡¡

We spent one night at Terracaribe in Dec. 2006. The room was nothing fancy, but very clean, it had TV, cable, phone and AC. The bathroom was also very clean. The hotel is in the downtown area, so not on the strip of (terrible) hotels mushroomed on the beach area. Most of all, the hotel was great value for the money, especially good if you have a car and can drive around. It's not far from some good restaurants in the downtown area. I'd recommend it especially for a short stay (if you're flying in-out of Cancun).

“Great budget hotel in downtown Cancun”

Terracaribe Hotel

We spent the first two nights of our stay in Cancun at the Terracaribe, because we had to arrive two days before the rest of my family, who had rented several rooms in a Hotel Zone hotel.

The location of the Terracaribe isn't terribly convenient to anything you might want to see in downtown Cancun, so you will have to take busses or taxis nearly everywhere unless you like to walk really long distances. The neighborhood is mostly residential and a bit down at the heels, but it seems perfectly safe. It's at a busy intersection, with a lot of traffic outside. Early in the morning, it's a bit noisy with people going to work and a lady with very strong lungs hawking newspapers. However, it's quiet at night.

The hotel is built around an attractive courtyard, with many tropical plants. Access to the rooms is from stairs leading into the courtyard. There is no elevator, but there are only two floors.

We had a superior double The room was spacious and airy, though simply furnished. There are no hair dryers in the room, nor refrigerator, nor coffee maker. Everything is clean and in good repair. The beds were a little too firm for my taste. The air conditioning, if you need it, works well. The staff are very helpful and pleasant.

There is free internet access from a computer near the lobby, and if you have your laptop along, you might be able to pick up the wifi from your room. (We could.)

Breakfast is not included, but I highly recommend the breakfast buffet in the hotel's restaurant. It's not a bad place to have dinner either.

All in all, a very good hotel at budget hotel price.
