We spent the first two nights of our stay in Cancun at the Terracaribe, because we had to arrive two days before the rest of my family, who had rented several rooms in a Hotel Zone hotel.
The location of the Terracaribe isn't terribly convenient to anything you might want to see in downtown Cancun, so you will have to take busses or taxis nearly everywhere unless you like to walk really long distances. The neighborhood is mostly residential and a bit down at the heels, but it seems perfectly safe. It's at a busy intersection, with a lot of traffic outside. Early in the morning, it's a bit noisy with people going to work and a lady with very strong lungs hawking newspapers. However, it's quiet at night.
The hotel is built around an attractive courtyard, with many tropical plants. Access to the rooms is from stairs leading into the courtyard. There is no elevator, but there are only two floors.
We had a superior double The room was spacious and airy, though simply furnished. There are no hair dryers in the room, nor refrigerator, nor coffee maker. Everything is clean and in good repair. The beds were a little too firm for my taste. The air conditioning, if you need it, works well. The staff are very helpful and pleasant.
There is free internet access from a computer near the lobby, and if you have your laptop along, you might be able to pick up the wifi from your room. (We could.)
Breakfast is not included, but I highly recommend the breakfast buffet in the hotel's restaurant. It's not a bad place to have dinner either.
All in all, a very good hotel at budget hotel price.
