We spent alot of money staying at what was suppose to be a five star adults only all-inclusive hotel in Cancun. The hotel was very nice but the service was absolutely horrible. The waiters was not friendly and the drinks were all watered down and the premium liquor was not premium at all! We ended up buying our own liquor to put in the drinks. We upgraded to a corner suite hoping for some privacy, but it was very noise and the people below us partied until 4:00 in the morning. When we called to complain, there was no answer at the front desk and after 30 minutes of trying, we finally got through to someone and they sent security to the room. I will never stay at an all-inclusive hotel or the Royal ever again! All-Inclusives are overrated. Do NOT waste your money at this pricey place!

We have just returned from Mexico following my friends 30th birthday. We were initially booked in to another hotel in the Rivera Mayu. After 3 days of abuse being stuck in Butlins by the sea and being told it was a 5 star hotel when it clearly wasn't we packed our bags and headed into Cancun.

After a lot of messing around we booked into The Royal Cancun and we weren't disappointed. We were greeted by very friendly staff in lobby with a glass of Champagne, asked to fill in our pillow menu, a preference for aromatherapy essence for our room and specify the time we would like it making up in the morning.

We were escorted up to our room which by far the best hotel room I've ever stayed in. We had two double beds and never mind the pillow menu each bed already had 6 pillows on it

There was a jacuzzi in the room overlooking the sea, a mini bar of optics with proper branded spirits, dressing gowns, slipper and flatscreen TV and an I Pod with a selection of music on it.

There was even a hamock on the balcony to chill in. The room had a free safe, a proper iron and ironing board and hairdryer and you could fit at least 3 people in the shower.

It was amazing. For an all inclusive the food was also excellent, none of the usual canteen stuff, There were 5 Resturants to choose from, all serving a'la carte food with plenty of choice and room service available if you wanted to stay in.

All the spirits were branded and cocktails were made to order, with waitress service around the pool. The is also a beachtler who wanders around the poolside giving people suntan cream, cold towels and spraying you down if you get to hot..

We mentioned our bad experience and my frineds birthday when we arrived. On our 2nd day we arrived up to the room to champagne birthday cake and swan lake made from towels across our beds.

You are allowed access to the hotel next door which is part of the same chain, I popped my head in, it looked nice enough but I didn't stay long as it is child friendly and we enjoyed the fact the The Royal Cancun is adult only.

We also had a looked at the Presidential Suite, it was bigger than my friends apartment and I've never seen a mini bar like it, It was incredible, but I don't think it would be worth the extra money as everything is pretty much available in an ordinary suite.

I could go on about the hotel for hours but my advice is book it and go and see for yourself you won't be disappointed.

I shall be going back without a doubt.

We had stayed at the Royal in Playa del Carmen twice, so we figured we couldn't go wrong with the same in Cancun. We were right! We had booked Royal Junior Suite Ocean View mainly because you could choose your room. However, we quickly found out that we could not choose our room unless we were Royal Ocean Front or better. No biggie, as once we were there we found out that every room is Ocean Front and has a balcony as well! We were whisked away to the 6th floor concierge and were given Room 630. It was perfect, but had 2 double beds. We checked back with the concierge, but he said the hotel was full and we could possibly change to a king bed the next day; but the room was really nice and once I was unpacked, I was not packing up again, so we kept the room. We did get to select our pillows (which we never used, as each bed had 6 pillows on them already!) We also were able to select what time we wanted our room cleaned and we picked between noon and 2pm. The beds were probably the most comfortable I have ever slept in! Never used the robes - but I did walk around in my slippers! LOL!

Lobby bar is wonderful, overlooking the pool area and ocean. Swim up bar - perfect - especially Baak, our bartender! Fun drinks as well as the usual liquors. Although we noticed some people never got out of the pool..... 24 hour bar was always stocked with Rum, Vodka, Crown, beer, soft drinks, pretty much anything you might want. Sometimes there were onion rings, wings, chips, quacamole, queso. None of it very good, but will do in a pinch!

We only hit Spices for breakfast, but it was good. Try the omelets! What is it about bacon in Mexico that tastes so incredible? Ate at Asiana first night - pretty wonderful, although my ribeye was kind of tough - should have ordered chicken. Be sure to sit at one of the tables where the chef does the show. It's also a fun way to meet other people!

Maria Marie's - We went with the Mexican menu items and loved them! I told the waiter that someone had told me their chicken mole enchiladas were good. He said they did not have those on the menu. He later came by the table and said "I have something special for mama!". Now, I'm not a mama, but when he served us, he had had the chef make the enchiladas special for me. Now, that is service! We could have just ordered a couple of appetizers and that would have been plenty!

Tapas - don't bother. We went with a group of people and ordered several things. Everything looked the same and all of it was small pieces of bread spread with something fishy. Not at all what we ordered. Plus, it is in the same restaurant as Maria Marie's, so you don't really feel like you are in a different restaurant.

Pelicano's was a great lunch spot right by the pool and on the beach, although we were kind of wanting burgers or club sandwiches or nachos. They did have pizza which we did not try, but I loved the fajitas.

Spazul - I had a deep tissue massage. Never again! LOL! She was too rough on me. I would definitely do it again, but I'd get a relaxing massage next time. Everyone we encountered was so nice! Oops, how can I forget about Raphael? You will no doubt meet him - he is the Beach Butler! He can shine up a mean pair of sunglasses too!

We are already planning our trip back to the Royal Cancun or Royal Playa for October.

We went to the Royal for our honeymoon. They greeted us with wine as soon as we came in. The room was awesome. We had the 7th floor ocean front. There were flower pedals on the bed when we arrived it was awesome. Everyone was really nice. Tequillia volleyball was a lot of fun. The only downside was room service took 1-2 hrs to delivery.

“First class all inclusive - amazing”

The Royal Cancun

Just been for my 30th birthday 01/07/08 for 7 nights. Its a first class All Inclusive hotel. Up to now it has not been ruined by the British tour operators, I do hope they keep away. Its an adult only hotel too, no screeming kids - excellent!! The rooms, restaurants, food, staff, drinks, view, everything is fantastic. When we checked in we were asked what pillow we would like, they had 5 to choose from this was to go with the other 6 which was on your bed! What time you wanted your room cleaning. What time you wanted the maid to turn down the bed. Round the pool they have staff walking round with newspapers, magazines, the best bit is they have suncreams with cold flannels for your face, clean your sunglasses and spray you to cool you down. They have a room service menu, we used it alot, the food and champagne went down very well. They gave us an iPod to listen to music in the room which you connect to a Bosch music system. I have stayed in many hotels in the Caribbean area as well as Europe, but never come across the service and standard you get at THE ROYAL CANCUN. I give the place 10/10 if I could give it more I would. Im returning in september and im counting the days. I advise all you tourist with high standards to stay at this hotel, if your standards are not so high try THE GRAN BAHIA PRINCIPE RIVIERA MAYA.
