“The BEST beach in Cancun... worth the money... but, BEWARE of the bellboy after you check out!”
We got a good deal through Groupon for two nights, two adults in an ocean view room, all inclusive. $300. It was very worth it! Adults only.
The service was good at the front desk (minus the two girls trying to flirt with my husband one the second day- I found that very inappropriate and unprofessional). Check in was quick and simple.
Upon arrival we were welcomed with a refreshing drink that was yummy (its called a 'Cocktel de Bienvenida' and consists of sprite, cranberry juice, and lime).
They gave us our room and our bags got delivered directly to our room, WHILE we got a "welcome" from their super friendly saleswoman. It wasn't time shares, it was to get us to join their dumb club. She wasn't unpleasant, but got pretty annoying after a while. Just SAY NOO!
Yeah, they sucked us into listening to their shenanigans for breakfast the next morning. Not too bad, except they expect you do dish out a ton of $$ to join the club. We got a tiny bottle of tequila, a cheap magnet, two t-shirts that didn't fit, a bag that fell apart, and $100 worth of excursions in return for giving them 2 hours of our time. Was it worth it? nah.
The room was spacious and had a good view. It was clean and the bathroom had a nice tub. They gave us a bunch of toiletries and kept our mini fridge well stocked. I did not like their tile work in the bathroom, however it was something I saw in all our hotel rooms in Mexico. I guess that's how it is.
The food was pretty good. Here's a brief summary of the food:
The breakfast had a good selection of fruit and other Mexican food staples. Orange juice, coffee, milk, pastries, toast, potatoes, chilaquiles, beans and eggs. Too much to mention here.
The Mexican food restaurant was the best of all of them. They had DELICIOUS fish tacos. We always went to the other restaurants to try their food, but ALWAYS ended up in the Mexican one to fill up... and try something extra!
The Italian place was a little nicer, but the food was kinda ehh. Not very good. The dessert was very good. We had tiramisu and the hot chocolate with donut dumplings. Overall, the food was not of my liking, but I guess its worth a try! The service was great, though.
The White Box place was interesting. My husband made a reservation there for our Anniversary. They made a special menu for us, which was weird. It was interesting and beautiful looking, but unusual. The service was excellent! It was a neat experience.
They also had snacks outside by the bars, serving burgers, sandwiches, chicken strips, and hot dogs. At one they even had made-to-order sushi and rolls. They were ok.
Heads up, the portions are small. That's not necessarily a bad thing because then you can try more than one dish.
They have good service at the bars. I would recommend bringing my own larger cup, as theirs are small and require of multiple trips. Not a bad thing if you like to change up your drinks a bit. Or you can always ask for two or three at a time. The drinks are pretty tasty but they only have beer on tap. I think its like Sol or something.
The beach was GORGEOUS!!! The sand is white and the beach is absolutely stunning! It is bright blue and the water is clear! Since Isla Mujeres is right across, it serves as a barrier for giant waves, so you end up with small little waves in a very peaceful setting. Just gorgeous! We even had a photo shoot there for our anniversary. It was my favorite beach of the entire trip! They have two pools, which were nice too.
They rent out Smart Cars for cheap. It was $50 for one day, but if you rented it for more days, it got cheaper and after 4 days, you would get one day free. We rented ours for 8 days and paid 210 usd. TOTALLY worth it!!! It was the best money we spent in Cancun. In Cancun, car rentals go from 80-120 usd for a basic little car a day! It was a bargain. (Smart cars only fit two people)
It was quick and easy, DO NOT lose your check out ticket or the nasty bellboy won't let you out of the building!!! While you are a guest, you get treated like royalty, but as soon as you surrender your bracelet, you are given the boot and a kick in the butt. They treat you like the worst of criminals.
HERE'S THE PART ABOUT THE NASTY BELLBOY:
Just to clarify, we encountered two bellboys. One was pleasant. He was the younger one. The Awful one was the older, darker complexioned one. Here, I am referring to the older one. So, when my husband went back to return our smart car at 7am when the Smart Car rental booth opened, he was stopped at the door. Not a big deal, we understand that they are trying to keep their guests safe. But they made my husband wait outside for over 25 minutes, claiming that the rental guy hadn't arrived yet. We were on a tight schedule because of our flight. So after patiently waiting, my husband insisted on the bellboy checking to see if the guy was there. It turns out that he had been there for a while. Not that bad. The thing is that while my husband was waiting OUTSIDE, a group of tourist was also checking out of the hotel. They asked the bellboy for a taxi and he got them a tiny one. The tourist said "hey man, we've been here all week. You know there's 5 of us and we don;t fit in that taxi with all our luggage." Then the bellboy said he would get a new taxi, but didn't. He just made them wait outside with my husband. Then, they got tired of waiting and started walking to the street to fetch their own taxi. The bellboy ran after them to come back. Once they were out of sight, my husband heard him cussing at them in Spanish and saying awful things. Things like: These ^@$% tourists are not going to ruin my day so early, etc.. My husband was in shock and lost even more respect for him. What a shame that this hotel would hire people like that. If it wasn't for tourists, that guy wouldn't have a job. Now, I know sometimes tourists are evil too, but these specific ones weren't. They were polite. My husband is a very polite person as well. He was going to report him, but at the moment he was already running late because of the bellboy and the situation, ironically.
We will definitely be back again with our adult friends and family! But I do hope they resolve their bellboy's nasty attitude.
The service at ALL the restaurants and bars was SUPERB. Do bring $1 bills/Mexican pesos to tip the very hardworking workers. You don't have to tip the EVERY time, but it is nice to if they provide you with exceptional service.
Ask for a view of the beach and pool area. It is gorgeous!!!
