We stayed at Playa Azul as part of a special event. The way the event was handled was nearly flawless and very beautiful, however I would NOT recommend anyone stay here unless they had to. The hotel was okay: nice view, very tropical, beach bar. However, the pool was freezing and not particularly clean, and there was virtually no beach. We did go snorkeling, and that proved enjoyable but nothing spectacular. The hotel is far from the center of town, and the ferry required to get to Cozumel from PDC was a horrendous ride both ways due to choppy water. The rooms themselves were standard, not particularly clean, and spotty with the hot water. I definitely felt like I had to wear flip flops everywhere. However, what I was most disappointed in was the service. When I asked the front desk for extra beach towels, I was told the agent had to speak to the manager--for two extra towels! And when we went to check out, the agent informed me that I had to wait until 7am when the letter we received in our room said we could check out at 6 am. The checkout process took a good 20 minutes, and we were left with an overcomplicated, confusing guest folio and an additional charge at the bottom for a Red Cross donation, which we never consented to (Okay, we're not that miserable--we agreed to leave the charge on there, but I was mad that we were never asked or told about it.). Never, ever again would we stay there. We would have spent more time in Cancun or PDC if we could have.
