June 3 - June 10, 2007

My husband and I stayed at Casita de Maya June 3 - 10, 2007. We planned the trip to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and chose this hotel based on the many positive reviews posted on "tripadvisor.com." Initially we were very skeptical and more than a little nervous about our decision. As we made our way from the airport to the hotel, Dan greeted us and escorted us to our room.
As soon as we entered the front gate, we knew we had made the right decision! Our room was tastefully decorated, the air-conditioning unit worked perfectly (very, very important), the bed was wonderful and the refrigerator was stocked with free bottled water. In the mornings, coffee was available, free of charge, outside at the bar area where we usually had our breakfast. The housekeeper, Jolie, cleaned our room every day and even brought in fresh cut flowers. We enjoyed meeting a couple of Dan's friends, Tracy and Sandy, who are very knowledgeable about the area. Dan introduced us to the resident "critters" (Herman, Trixie and Kitty) whom we enjoyed while we were there.
Most importantly though, with Dan's help, we were able to do what we wanted, when we wanted, the way we wanted! With his assistance, we rented a car and drove around the island, stopping and enjoying a beautiful beach club and other attractions along the way. Another day we took a ferry to Playa del Carmen where we spent a few hours exploring the beach area. Since downtown Cozumel is only about a $2.00 taxi ride away, we went there several times to shop and usually stopped in at one of the grocery stores for wonderful breads, muffins, cream cheese and yogurts. Early in the week, at our request, Dan walked with us to a fresh fruit/ice-cream stand where we bought fruit bowls for our breakfasts. We returned there almost every day for more fruit and, of course, we always had ice-cream while we were there (usually coconut and/or chocolate). After Dan assured us the area was safe, we walked wherever we wanted and had no problems. We enjoyed fabulous seafood, nachos, tacos and other delicious dishes at restaurants Dan recommended, some within walking distance of the hotel.
Dan is a very gracious host and, if you will tell him what you want, he will help you make it happen. Incredibly, there was no noise from the airport and it was great to have Dan escort us back across the grounds when it was time to leave. We had a fantastic time at Casita de Maya and definitely recommend this unique little hotel to anyone planning to visit Cozumel...we plan to go again soon.
