We had a party of almost 30 people go to sabor for a relaxing time away from everything. Unfortunately it was not that way at all. Upon arriving at the hotel, some of us paid extra for pool rooms and did not get them. Some of our party did not get there rooms until well after 5pm and had to take the rooms that the hotel did not double book. After finally getting our rooms, they looked like they had not been clean. Pubic hair still in showers, no clean towels, no working air conditioning in some of the rooms, no working locks on some doors in our room, safe locks did not work in some of the rooms, no soap, tolits and sinks not cleaned, no stocked drinks in room, floors had not been mopped, bedspreads where stained and dirty and to top it off all the drinks are watered down. We stayed in the adult only section which is small and often understaffed. Called several times to front desk and got hung up on numerous times and was told they would have someone up right away. Very short staffed and no customer service at all. The food was awful and the bugs worse. The buffet was a joke and often wondered what unidentified food we just ate. Someone one finally came and stocked the refrig with 2 waters the last day we had the room. Our room service dishes stayed outside our room the whole 4 days we stayed. No staff bothered to pick up the dishes therefore many many bugs and 4 legged creatures came by. After talking to the management I decided to write this review. Their whole attitude was not helpful nor appreciated. Are party of 30 will be writing letters and reviews to whoever we need to to warn people not to stay at this resort. I would say save your money and go to a rio all inclusive. The staff and hotels is better. Heck a motel 6 would have been better then this place. Before booking I looked at the comments and thought that the issues had to be picky people but heck I should have listened myself. We will never go back to this hotel nor cozumel.

I ignored the negative reviews from others who gave their opinions here. Bad move! I figured they were just complainers but they were totally right. A group of around 20 of us stayed at the Sabor for 4 days. Just about all of us had bad experiences. The hotel is ok but the staff sucks. The first day we arrived we began the "task" of checking in. Me and my fiance paid extra for a first floor room with the water slide attached to our balcony pool. At check in we were told by the Concierge that our room was being cleaned and to come back in 30 minutes. 30 minutes later we returned and were told to come back in an hour and a half because the room was still being cleaned and their was maintenance issues. Apparently the maintenance issue was it was being repainted inside. The concierge told us they would notify us when our room was ready. They gave us a temporary room on the third floor. We went up to this room and found that it had no hot water or soap. So two hours and one cold shower later we heard nothing from the concierge so I went and met with him and was told our room was ready. He gave us our key card and said the bell boy would be getting our luggage to take to our new and improved room. The bell boy took his time and finally took half of our luggage to our original room and I took the other half. Once at our room I found that our key card would only work after about 10 minutes of waving it in from of the lock. I literally went to the concierge 10 times to get this issue resolved. Finally THE NEXT DAY our lock was fixed and we could get in our room without having to wait for ten minutes every time we tried to get in. When you hear about having a fully stocked bar in your room this actually means you will have 1 beer, 1 Diet Coke, 1 Coke, and maybe two waters stocked in your fridge every other day. Calling and asking for it to be stocked doesn't work. Our new bathroom did have hot water and soap,,,,,and a daddy long leg spider that had set up shop between the toilet and the wall. Want privacy, dont count on it. Each employee has a master key card. We had one guy who walked in unannounced who claimed he was there to stock the fridge. He had one bottle of water with him. USE THE SAFE! Locking the deadbolt doesn't work either because the key cards bypass it.

The pool is not bad. Only one of the slides that run from the balconies to the pool works. If you try the other slides you have to manually push yourself down the slide. These slides aren't steep enough nor do they have enough water flowing down them to move you. There is constant music all day at the pool. There music selection seems to have come from the Totally 90's CD collection. I can only take so much of Hammer Time.

Next we move on to the resort's restaurants.

The Mosaique - Closest one to the Sabor. Ok food, terrible service. Expect to wait at least an hour to get your food. Dont expect to get exactly what you order either. I would ask for Bacon for breakfast but get cold french frys instead. Sure you can complain and demand what you ordered but it's going to take another hour to get it to you. Also, your reservations don't mean jack. Some people we went with, who made reservations a day in advance, were denied when they showed up on time. There are literally two menu books available. So if 20 people show up before you then you have to wait for the two menus to be passed around until its your turn to order.

The Snack Bar - Cold french frys, again... barely edible hamburgers, oh and torilla chips. The chips and salsa is good. Want a drink with your meal? Wait in line at the nearest tiki hut bar.

La Isla (The buffet) - It's located right across from the above mentioned snack bar. Do not waist your time eating here. Its awful! Tried it a second time just to see if maybe I went on a bad day. Aparently I went on two bad days.

Vista Del Mar - We ate there once and it was good. 4 of us made reservations for 9pm. We got in right away, ordered our food and the waiter brought our food over an hour later. It wasn't busy either.

There is a mini mart, a cigar shop, and a tequila shop on site. The mini mart will charge you a ton. (3 bucks for a candy bar). The cigar shop sells some fake cuban cigars. How do I know? The guy working there admitted that some of the cigars were fake. They don't mind charging you full price either.

If you stay at the Sabor don't expect to see the beach or the ocean from the resort. You have to walk about two city blocks to get to the beach. The sand on the beach is very coarse and has chunks of coral and glass in it. There are plenty of areas nearby to snorkel or swim. The water was nice and the snorkeling was fun.

This was my first time to Cozumel. I have been to other areas of Mexico several times. After driving around the entire island I have to say this place is a dump. If you do decide to go to Cozumel stay away from the Sabor. I have a feeling there are going to be some very negative reviews coming soon. There were alot of unhappy people at the Sabor and it wasn't just from the group I was with.

“Had the Best Time at the Wyndham Sabor”

Sabor at the Wyndham Resort Cozumel

29 Jun 2008

I stayed at the Sabor from May 31 - June 7. There were six total in our group and we had a blast. Along with many other people on this site, I was a little concerned with some of the negative reviews, but once arriving at the resort, my concerns no longer existed. We had the most amazing time and it was a very relaxing vacation.

Check-in was a breeze and we were in our rooms in no time. The mini fridge was stocked with two beers, two waters and two sodas. The fridge was re-stocked everyday to replace what we consumed. We didn't have any issues with the rooms. There was a safe that we would lock up our valuables when we weren't in the room. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the pool, it was great!

The Sabor section is definitely the way to go if you are without kids. For the most part, there is a security guard at the entrance to the walkway to Sabor and unless you have your Sabor wristband on, you would not be allowed access to this part of the resort.

In regards to it being a long walk from Sabor to the front of the resort where the family section and buffet are... it's not that far at all. From some of the reviews I was expecting to have an incredibly long walk - but NOT the case at all! Some people referenced an odor or horrible smell between Sabor and the rest of the resort, but I didn't smell any odor at all. If there was an odor, it was pretty much non-existant as I don't recall being bothered by an odor.

The bartenders at the pool bar in Sabor were fantastic! Hilario and Christian made us some great drinks (try the "Dirty Monkey" - we had ours with extra banana). Arturo, the sports & entertainment guy, was incredibly nice and always had a smile on his face. He organized a game of tequila volleyball in the pool and we all played - it was a lot of fun. They do have top shelf liquor, you just have to ask for it when ordering a drink, otherwise you'll just get the well liquor - which was fine too. We never had an issue in having to wait in long lines for drinks, it was never a problem... and we consumed many drinks.

We never had any issues in finding a lounge chair by the pool and there always seemed to be open chairs. The water slides to the pool were so much fun! We were like a bunch of big kids... all six of us went down together a few times too!

The restaurants had good food, especially Mosaique. Delicious! Mosaique is in the Sabor section, so we ate breakfast and lunch there almost everyday. You only need to request reservations for Dinner... for breakfast and lunch, you can go in anytime. The dinner menu is different than the daytime menu. Dinner features an "asian fusion" type menu. The teriyaki beef tacos and chicken fried rice were amazing. Breakfast and lunch offered a variety of options and was also very good. The chips and salsa were so fresh.

The other restaurants were good too, but Mosaique was our favorite. We ate dinner once at Vista Del Mar and once at Roberto's - and both places were good. The buffet was just ok - nothing too exciting - it's a typical buffet and to be expected. The tostadas were the best part of the buffet. We only ate at the buffet a couple times. The snack bar was also a good option where you could grab some chips, salsa, nachos, guacamole, burgers, fries, etc.

The only thing is the resort didn't have much authentic mexican food, so if you are looking specifically for that, you'll probably be disappointed. The chips and salsa were definitely good and fresh. We did go into Cozumel a couple times and there are plenty of authentic options in town.

The beach bar was not our favorite. A few times, there was a line for drinks at the beach bar, but it seemed to move quick. But we preferred the Sabor pool bar and lounge bar better. They just made better drinks.

The beach is rocky once you get into the water, but bring water shoes and that solves that problem. Cozumel is actually the second best place to scuba dive and snorkel because of the coral reefs. (first place is Australia). We learned this while there. We went out on a glassbottom boat one day to snorkel and that was a lot of fun. Captain Jose was great and had plenty of Cerveza for us to enjoy!

The spa at the resort is a huge plus. I opted for the Sea Holistic package which was a body polish and then a holistic relaxation massage. It was fantastic and very relaxing!

There is also a Dichbe'll tequila store up near the spa. Definitely check this out! They give you samples of some of the best tequila I've ever tasted. We ended up buying a bottle of the blue agave to share - it was sooooo smooth! I don't think they sell it in the U.S. Or at least I haven't seen it here yet. Very very good!

We were very sad to leave. It was a great vacation and I would go back in a heartbeat. Not sure why some other people had such a horrible time or left horrible reviews, because I experienced none of this.

“Beautiful Property- Friendly Staff- but I would not recommend for the price”

Sabor at the Wyndham Resort Cozumel

29 Jun 2008

I was referred to the Sabor at the Wyndham by one of my friends who stayed there in 2006, it had not yet been bought by Wyndham, I think it was owned by the Reef club. Their stay was wonderful- beautiful property, & great service.

When we stayed there from 6/16/08 to 6/23/08, (there was 4 of us in our group- 2 couples)- the property was beautiful, the rooms were good, and although the staff was friendly, the resort was severly understaffed for the amount of guests that they had staying there. Which unfortunatley made our vacation not so good- (not horrible, but not the vacation that we paid for). They only had very few staff members to service the whole sabor side. I felt bad for them. In turn, we had to wait alot, which was fine, we were on vacation, not a schedule.

But it took over 2 hrs to get your room service order. The room was never stocked with water & soda- and no beer at all, as one of the reveiwers stated that they got. We had to call several times to the front desk for them to bring us water. When they did, it was 2 16.9 fl oz bottles, and that was our allocation for the day, we could not get any more. So we ended up buying giant bottles of water in the gift shop for like $7.00 and keep them in the mini fridge.
Our room was supposed to have a king bed but instead we got 2 queen beds, we're married so it was a little weird. But not a big deal. We had a bottom floor room with a patio that stepped out into a wading pool that had a slide off of it that went down into the main pool right be the swim up bar. Yay! That was cool!

The room was cleaned only a couple of times,(a couple of times we told them not to) which wasn't a big deal until you needed towels. But we're not very messy people so we really didn't need to have it cleaned everyday.

I can't stress enough how wonderful the waitstaff was though. Hilario, the bartender at the pool bar was awesome. Miguel & Jesus at Mosaic restaurant were great. & Christian at the lounge bar was good also.

The food was good Mosaic, Roberto's & Vista Del Mar, (the reservation restaurants) the buffet La Isla wasn't very good, but not horrible.

Check in went well for us, but not so well for our friends, the other couple- they had to wait over an hour to get their room, when we had already gotten ours & we all checked in at the same time. Evidently, the room that they were supposed to have, had to have some major maitenance problems taken care of- some one had broken the bed, the ac, and the shower head off in it. So they put our friends in a loner room (not what they paid for) for 2 nites, then they were able to get a room like what they were supposed to get originally. So that finally worked out for them. Plus they got 2 free massages for the inconvenience.

Check out was easy, but just know that they do not get there to open the concierge desk until 7am, so just be prepared if you have a really early flight back.

The beach view was absolutey gorgeous, the sand however, was very ouchy- it was not just sand, it had broken shells & broken coral all over it, so definatly bring water shoes. The snokling right off the beach was cool. Saw a few pretty fish. We also took a snorkling trip with the dive shop on the property & it was fun. They did a good job & I think that it was only like $25 per person.

Over all our experience was not totally bad, we always make the best of things and were not really in a hurry since we were on vacation, so we just rolled with the flow. We tryed to be very nice to all of the wait staff & bartenders & tipped well, because they were very hard workers & they do their jobs very well- but it's that they have to do the jobs of 3 or 4 people that I don't think is fair.
So what I would like to see if we ever decieded to come back would to have the resort fully staffed or even overstaffed, so everyone would get the attention & the quality of service that they paid for & the staff would not have to be sooo overworked. (Basically just ran more efficiently)

If we ever went back I would check this website and ask some of the actual people who wrote reviews if the staffing situation had been taking care of before I would spend that amount of money for that vacation again. I guess since we have stayed at a really efficiently ran resort in mexico before for a considerable amount less than we paid, that is the one thing that bugged us about it.

Again, ALL the wait staff & bartenders were freakin awesome that worked on the Sabor side. Yay!!!!!!

Please feel free to contact me so I can try to answer any questions you may have.

“Awesome girlfriends getaway!!!”

Sabor at the Wyndham Resort Cozumel

6 girlfriends and I spent a week at the Wyndham Sabor (paid for the upgrade to go to the adults only area- well worth it) and we all had a wonderful time! We had read all of the reviews and to be honest - we were quite worried! The reviews seem to be great or horrible. I have been to Mexico nearly every year for the past 20 years - staying along the Yukatan - so I have some experience traveling and staying in Mexico. Rarely do I stay in an all-inclusive but this worked out good with our group. All-inclusives usually have standard (boring) food, horrible entertainment, too many guests, no enough staff, and watered down drinks. The Sabor was fantastic. We were all very happy with the food and the quality - great choices and we all thoroughly enjoyed the sit-down dinners! We did buffet for a few breakfasts - and the choices at the buffet were fine! The entertainment was bad - but as expected - but I am not into that anyway. We always had staff around and available - who were always helpful and got us what we needed. The drinks were surprisingly good- with many choices and options. The rooms were nice too. Ours had the patio that went right out into the pool. VERY FUN! The rooms were cleaned daily and the mini-fridge was stocked daily as well - with water, pop, and beer. Safety was never a concern. There is a safe in the room and we put our valuables in there. REMEMBER- YOU ARE IN MEXICO - SLOW DOWN AND RELAX. TAKE YOUR TIME AND ENJOY IT! Also - don't forget to tip!!!!
