Beautiful Resort the staff is very friendly helpful and courteous. They are definately understaffed and employees are overworked. There were times that we actually saw staff running with plates at the restaurants. We were told that they had just recently lost some staff and were in the process of rebuilding. We had a meeting with the hotel director Mr. Alessandro Stefano and the food and beverage director about this very matter. I must say that these gentlemen are very sincere and assured us that this is only a temporary problem and will be fixed ASAP. I was very impressed with Mr. Stefano and am very confident that he will resolve these problems. We were treated to a dinner for two at the Aura because we had come forward with our displeasure with the restaurants at the main resort. What a treat that was it was just as good or better as any quality restaurant that I have ever attended anywhere. The only word that can describe that experience was Awesome. We had a 1st floor terrace room with a pool directly off of our balcony which was a very nice amenity. This room was located in Sabors which was worth the upgrade. The food was very tasty and it was well prepared at Mosaique. The service their was very good and we were served quickly. Wait til you meet Jesus at Mosaique he looks like PeeWee Herman but I have never met a person who seems like he thoroughly enjoys his job better than him. He will put a smile on your face just by his presence. He is awesome. Miguel is truly professional, helpful, courteous and has a very good sense of humor. Hilario at the swim up bar loves his job and it really shows. Dont know what to order just ask Hilario he introduced us to our first Mojito WOW what a refreshing drink. Just about the entire staff is very helpful, polite and really make you feel welcome.

The Sand Dollar Dive Shop has to be the hilite of our entire trip we met Julian the dive instructor who told us of their Discover Dive Program. For $75.00 each we were classroom trained, pool trained and then live scuba diving in the open ocean. My wife was very fearful and tentative but the care received by Julian and Horatio the photographer eliminated all of her fears. It was a very enjoyable experience with the help of those fellows. The reef was beautiful and Horatio took professional photos of the entire dive. It was so much fun that we went for a second dive for only $35.00 additional dollars that very afternoon. You wont be sorry with the experience. Snorkeling the beach was surprising you wont believe how many fish are right their in that shallow water. We will definately return to this resort. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. It really is a beautiful place. I have no doubts that the service will catch up in short time.. Cant wait to get back their next spring.

My husband and I stayed at the Wyndam Resort and Spa Cozumel from 6/23-6/30. We were fortunate to have traveled with another couple who urged us to book a room on the "Sabor" section of the resort property. If a person is considering Wyndam as a possible destination and is not bringing their children, I urge them to stay in Sabor.
Our week in Cozumel was overall a pleasant experience. Our room was one of the nicer Sabor rooms which opened up to our own pool area and slide. That really made it nice, quiet and relaxing. Sometimes the main adults only pool area got a little loud so I appreciated being able to have my own pool space right outside the room. The room was extremely clean and well kept by the staff. The cleaning staff came at inconsistent times each day, but did a reasonable job of maintaining the room and refrigerator drinks. I recommend tipping the staff a couple of bucks a day to help ensure the frige is stocked etc. Sabor has a private check in and concierge area just past the pool. Sandy is usually working there. She is not the world's most efficient customer service person and could be frustrating at times. She had trouble attending to people without being distracted by the phone. As another reviewer mentioned earlier, the resort seems to be understaffed at times, and is noticibly so at the private check in area.
Our experience with the food left us with the opinion that the buffet is decent for breakfast, (lots of fresh fruit, rolls, made to order eggs etc.) but really so so for lunch and a last resort for dinner. We really enjoyed Mosaique for breakfast and lunch and tried to only eat at the reservation restaurants for dinner, where the food is much much better than the buffet. Vista Del Mar had great food, their service was kinda sketchy, I think they were missing staff the night we went there. Roberto's was fantastic: great food, excellent service and beautiful surroundings. Mosaique was my favorite dinner: get Jesus if possible he is great. The service was super good and the food was fun and tasty.
The general area of the resort is where the snack bar, buffet and beach access are located. There is also a beachside bar good for sitting and enjoying the beautiful Cozumel sunsets. During the day you will see why you do not want to book a room in the general area where you cannot escape back over to the quiet of Sabor. It is noisy, the lines are long for drinks and snacks and staff is constantly trying to get the guests to join them on hikes, water aerobics, etc. There is also a group that will bug you on the beach to take a picture (for one dollar) with their giant iguana. The salsa and guacamole were really good at the snack bar and they fried up the chips pretty much as you ordered them. If you are going there to get a little boozy you will probably have to bring your own liquor as the bars generally watered down the drinks. The beach at the hotel was beautiful to look at but definitely bring your water shoes as the sand was coarse and painful to walk on. Snorkeling is below average in front of the resort. If you want to snorkel I recommend either Chankanaab park down the street or an off shore excursion to the reef. If you go inland at all or to the mainland (we did a day trip to Coba ruins) bring bug repellent as the mosquitos could be nasty at times. We rented a jeep for a couple of days and it was nice to travel around the island, go into town, and visit other beaches.

I had read some of the reviews of the resort before our vacation and was a little apprehensive about Wyndam. Luckily most of the complaints I didn't experience myself. Things work differently in Mexico and understanding that will make your vacation a much more enjoyable experience. We saw some very obnoxious Americans , especially a few bridezillas that were seriously crazed. Overall it was a very pleasant trip and I was very happy with the cleanliness of the rooms and the friendly, helpful staff.

We had a party of almost 30 people go to sabor for a relaxing time away from everything. Unfortunately it was not that way at all. Upon arriving at the hotel, some of us paid extra for pool rooms and did not get them. Some of our party did not get there rooms until well after 5pm and had to take the rooms that the hotel did not double book. After finally getting our rooms, they looked like they had not been clean. Pubic hair still in showers, no clean towels, no working air conditioning in some of the rooms, no working locks on some doors in our room, safe locks did not work in some of the rooms, no soap, tolits and sinks not cleaned, no stocked drinks in room, floors had not been mopped, bedspreads where stained and dirty and to top it off all the drinks are watered down. We stayed in the adult only section which is small and often understaffed. Called several times to front desk and got hung up on numerous times and was told they would have someone up right away. Very short staffed and no customer service at all. The food was awful and the bugs worse. The buffet was a joke and often wondered what unidentified food we just ate. Someone one finally came and stocked the refrig with 2 waters the last day we had the room. Our room service dishes stayed outside our room the whole 4 days we stayed. No staff bothered to pick up the dishes therefore many many bugs and 4 legged creatures came by. After talking to the management I decided to write this review. Their whole attitude was not helpful nor appreciated. Are party of 30 will be writing letters and reviews to whoever we need to to warn people not to stay at this resort. I would say save your money and go to a rio all inclusive. The staff and hotels is better. Heck a motel 6 would have been better then this place. Before booking I looked at the comments and thought that the issues had to be picky people but heck I should have listened myself. We will never go back to this hotel nor cozumel.

I ignored the negative reviews from others who gave their opinions here. Bad move! I figured they were just complainers but they were totally right. A group of around 20 of us stayed at the Sabor for 4 days. Just about all of us had bad experiences. The hotel is ok but the staff sucks. The first day we arrived we began the "task" of checking in. Me and my fiance paid extra for a first floor room with the water slide attached to our balcony pool. At check in we were told by the Concierge that our room was being cleaned and to come back in 30 minutes. 30 minutes later we returned and were told to come back in an hour and a half because the room was still being cleaned and their was maintenance issues. Apparently the maintenance issue was it was being repainted inside. The concierge told us they would notify us when our room was ready. They gave us a temporary room on the third floor. We went up to this room and found that it had no hot water or soap. So two hours and one cold shower later we heard nothing from the concierge so I went and met with him and was told our room was ready. He gave us our key card and said the bell boy would be getting our luggage to take to our new and improved room. The bell boy took his time and finally took half of our luggage to our original room and I took the other half. Once at our room I found that our key card would only work after about 10 minutes of waving it in from of the lock. I literally went to the concierge 10 times to get this issue resolved. Finally THE NEXT DAY our lock was fixed and we could get in our room without having to wait for ten minutes every time we tried to get in. When you hear about having a fully stocked bar in your room this actually means you will have 1 beer, 1 Diet Coke, 1 Coke, and maybe two waters stocked in your fridge every other day. Calling and asking for it to be stocked doesn't work. Our new bathroom did have hot water and soap,,,,,and a daddy long leg spider that had set up shop between the toilet and the wall. Want privacy, dont count on it. Each employee has a master key card. We had one guy who walked in unannounced who claimed he was there to stock the fridge. He had one bottle of water with him. USE THE SAFE! Locking the deadbolt doesn't work either because the key cards bypass it.

The pool is not bad. Only one of the slides that run from the balconies to the pool works. If you try the other slides you have to manually push yourself down the slide. These slides aren't steep enough nor do they have enough water flowing down them to move you. There is constant music all day at the pool. There music selection seems to have come from the Totally 90's CD collection. I can only take so much of Hammer Time.

Next we move on to the resort's restaurants.

The Mosaique - Closest one to the Sabor. Ok food, terrible service. Expect to wait at least an hour to get your food. Dont expect to get exactly what you order either. I would ask for Bacon for breakfast but get cold french frys instead. Sure you can complain and demand what you ordered but it's going to take another hour to get it to you. Also, your reservations don't mean jack. Some people we went with, who made reservations a day in advance, were denied when they showed up on time. There are literally two menu books available. So if 20 people show up before you then you have to wait for the two menus to be passed around until its your turn to order.

The Snack Bar - Cold french frys, again... barely edible hamburgers, oh and torilla chips. The chips and salsa is good. Want a drink with your meal? Wait in line at the nearest tiki hut bar.

La Isla (The buffet) - It's located right across from the above mentioned snack bar. Do not waist your time eating here. Its awful! Tried it a second time just to see if maybe I went on a bad day. Aparently I went on two bad days.

Vista Del Mar - We ate there once and it was good. 4 of us made reservations for 9pm. We got in right away, ordered our food and the waiter brought our food over an hour later. It wasn't busy either.

There is a mini mart, a cigar shop, and a tequila shop on site. The mini mart will charge you a ton. (3 bucks for a candy bar). The cigar shop sells some fake cuban cigars. How do I know? The guy working there admitted that some of the cigars were fake. They don't mind charging you full price either.

If you stay at the Sabor don't expect to see the beach or the ocean from the resort. You have to walk about two city blocks to get to the beach. The sand on the beach is very coarse and has chunks of coral and glass in it. There are plenty of areas nearby to snorkel or swim. The water was nice and the snorkeling was fun.

This was my first time to Cozumel. I have been to other areas of Mexico several times. After driving around the entire island I have to say this place is a dump. If you do decide to go to Cozumel stay away from the Sabor. I have a feeling there are going to be some very negative reviews coming soon. There were alot of unhappy people at the Sabor and it wasn't just from the group I was with.

“Had the Best Time at the Wyndham Sabor”

Sabor at the Wyndham Resort Cozumel

29 Jun 2008

I stayed at the Sabor from May 31 - June 7. There were six total in our group and we had a blast. Along with many other people on this site, I was a little concerned with some of the negative reviews, but once arriving at the resort, my concerns no longer existed. We had the most amazing time and it was a very relaxing vacation.

Check-in was a breeze and we were in our rooms in no time. The mini fridge was stocked with two beers, two waters and two sodas. The fridge was re-stocked everyday to replace what we consumed. We didn't have any issues with the rooms. There was a safe that we would lock up our valuables when we weren't in the room. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the pool, it was great!

The Sabor section is definitely the way to go if you are without kids. For the most part, there is a security guard at the entrance to the walkway to Sabor and unless you have your Sabor wristband on, you would not be allowed access to this part of the resort.

In regards to it being a long walk from Sabor to the front of the resort where the family section and buffet are... it's not that far at all. From some of the reviews I was expecting to have an incredibly long walk - but NOT the case at all! Some people referenced an odor or horrible smell between Sabor and the rest of the resort, but I didn't smell any odor at all. If there was an odor, it was pretty much non-existant as I don't recall being bothered by an odor.

The bartenders at the pool bar in Sabor were fantastic! Hilario and Christian made us some great drinks (try the "Dirty Monkey" - we had ours with extra banana). Arturo, the sports & entertainment guy, was incredibly nice and always had a smile on his face. He organized a game of tequila volleyball in the pool and we all played - it was a lot of fun. They do have top shelf liquor, you just have to ask for it when ordering a drink, otherwise you'll just get the well liquor - which was fine too. We never had an issue in having to wait in long lines for drinks, it was never a problem... and we consumed many drinks.

We never had any issues in finding a lounge chair by the pool and there always seemed to be open chairs. The water slides to the pool were so much fun! We were like a bunch of big kids... all six of us went down together a few times too!

The restaurants had good food, especially Mosaique. Delicious! Mosaique is in the Sabor section, so we ate breakfast and lunch there almost everyday. You only need to request reservations for Dinner... for breakfast and lunch, you can go in anytime. The dinner menu is different than the daytime menu. Dinner features an "asian fusion" type menu. The teriyaki beef tacos and chicken fried rice were amazing. Breakfast and lunch offered a variety of options and was also very good. The chips and salsa were so fresh.

The other restaurants were good too, but Mosaique was our favorite. We ate dinner once at Vista Del Mar and once at Roberto's - and both places were good. The buffet was just ok - nothing too exciting - it's a typical buffet and to be expected. The tostadas were the best part of the buffet. We only ate at the buffet a couple times. The snack bar was also a good option where you could grab some chips, salsa, nachos, guacamole, burgers, fries, etc.

The only thing is the resort didn't have much authentic mexican food, so if you are looking specifically for that, you'll probably be disappointed. The chips and salsa were definitely good and fresh. We did go into Cozumel a couple times and there are plenty of authentic options in town.

The beach bar was not our favorite. A few times, there was a line for drinks at the beach bar, but it seemed to move quick. But we preferred the Sabor pool bar and lounge bar better. They just made better drinks.

The beach is rocky once you get into the water, but bring water shoes and that solves that problem. Cozumel is actually the second best place to scuba dive and snorkel because of the coral reefs. (first place is Australia). We learned this while there. We went out on a glassbottom boat one day to snorkel and that was a lot of fun. Captain Jose was great and had plenty of Cerveza for us to enjoy!

The spa at the resort is a huge plus. I opted for the Sea Holistic package which was a body polish and then a holistic relaxation massage. It was fantastic and very relaxing!

There is also a Dichbe'll tequila store up near the spa. Definitely check this out! They give you samples of some of the best tequila I've ever tasted. We ended up buying a bottle of the blue agave to share - it was sooooo smooth! I don't think they sell it in the U.S. Or at least I haven't seen it here yet. Very very good!

We were very sad to leave. It was a great vacation and I would go back in a heartbeat. Not sure why some other people had such a horrible time or left horrible reviews, because I experienced none of this.
