“Thank you Umberto and Lourdes!”

Hotel & Restaurant Bucaneros

4 Dec 2007

this is a really great place. we booked our stay directly with the hotel and were really impressed with the efficient and friendly responses we received before our arrival. Our room was ready and had everything we needed..air con, a shower and clean bedding. The location can't be beat! But it's the the staff that make this place. They are all very friendly and helpful.
It was my birthday and my husband arranged for a surprise dinner and cake. The staff were too quick to make sure that everything was made possible, even if that meant an extra shopping trip for items off the menu. Umberto and Lourdes were the best! we'll definitely be back! thank you for a great time :)

I found this hotel online and it seemed cheap compared to other hotels in Isla Mujeres. Its not 5 star but we found the rooms comfortable and clean, with all you'd require from a hotel room.
The location was great, opposite what seemed to be the best and main restaurant on the island and only a short walk from the beaches. However on our first night this did cause a problem as the room that i had booked #102 overlooked the main road and had very old wooden windows which let in the noise, the staff were courteous and moved us as soon as something was available, the new room #304 was cheaper (though in our opinion much nicer) and we were refunded the difference!

While the Bucaneros doesn't have a pool, a beach and ocean view, it offers a variety of clean rooms for an excellent price.

Our room, #305, was smaller and didn't have much space to put our clothes and stuff. The bathroom is large enough though, and very clean. I liked the big shower and its broad hot water! The room has a so-called two-person bed, but for us, two young Europeans, it was kinda small.

Location is very good (if you don't absolutely need a beach and a pool): in the central Hidalgo street (which is not noisy at night) and just a few minutes' walk from the white sand beaches of Playa Norte.

We paid 495 pesos per night; Visa credit cards are accepted.

A small continental breakfast is included. You can always change or upgrade your breakfast; your ticket is worth 42 pesos in the hotel's restaurant.

At night, the restaurant offers three or four interestingly priced menus with a soup or first course and a main course. The à la carte is a little more expensive than in other hotels.

“Honest and friendly staff”

We went to Cancun for a conference and we had reservation for two nights at casa ixchel. Due to the hurricane dean we were asked to evacuated casa ixchel on August 18, 2007. We asked the Casa ixchel if we could stay the 08/18/07 night and then make our way to the airport but the Casa ixchel hotel owner said no.

At that point we did not know what to do. So, to discuss our options we went out for breakfast at Bucanero restaurant and then noticed the hotel next door and asked the manager if they had a room available. When we explained our situation Hotel Bucanero was able to get us a room on the third floor.

The room was very clean and the staff was friendly. Most of all they phoned the airlines for us and gave us internet access to make necessary travel plans to evacuate Cancun prior to the hurricane dean land fall. We left the hotel 6am on August 19th and left our camera in the hotel room and the hotel manager located it and shipped it back to us. We were pleasantly surprised by their honesty and customer service. We are grateful to the staff for the camera and most of all for the photos.

We had breakfast at Bucanero and the buffet was excellent. The hotel provided purified water and the staff was always very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very close the beach and island's restaurants. I would definitely go back!

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights and loved it. I first saw this hotel from the outside when I was on the Island for several hours in Jan. 2007. I checked tripadvisor for the reviews once I came home and when it came time to make my reservations I contacted the hotel directly by internet. From my first contact with the hotel the personnel were responsive, friendly and professional. All of my inquiries were answered timely and making my reservation was very easy. They were even kind enough to tell me how to find the hotel from the Ferry (I already knew this, but it sure was nice of them to offer the information). Upon arriving on the island it was a short 2.5 blocks to the hotel with my roller luggage. When I arrived at the front desk I was checked in efficiently, given my breakfast vouchers, welcome drink vouchers, and the key to my room, and I was even offered help if needed with getting my bag up to my room. Everything about my check-in process was great! I was traveling alone so I had requested one of the smaller rooms at the hotel (103) which was quite affordable. My room had a small closet area, a small vanity anchored to the wall, a small stool for the vanity and a small beside table. There was also a private bathroom with a shower, a wall mounted TV (no remote), an adjustible speed ceiling fan as well as airconditioning (with a remote control). The air conditioning unit was excellent - very quiet, easily adjusted, and effective. With the intense heat in the summer months it was absolutely great to have such a wonderfully cool place to return to each evening. The entire room was very, very, clean. I was very impressed with the maid service, in fact I have to say my room was one of the cleanest that I have encountered when traveling. I had crisp white cotton sheets and pillow cases on the bed (that were changed daily) and the bed itself was nice and firm (which is my preference). I had two nice big pillows that were full and very comfortable to sleep on. The view from my room was to the back of the hotel and not very attractive, but then I was not there to look out the window, I was off to the beautiful beaches for the view there. The shower pressure was ok, the only problem was that the floor of the shower would fill just a bit with water that did not drain away immediately, but this seems to be an issue on the island in general with the plumbing. Whenever I came back to my room there was never any left over water in the shower. It should be noted that the rooms do not have telephones in them, but then I was glad not to have one...I was on vacation. The continental breakfast that came with my room was simple, 3 pieces of toast with butter & jelly, a glass of fresh OJ, and a cup of coffee that was refilled when requested with a very pleasant smile. It was just enough to start the day out right. It was so hot that I was more than content with a light breakfast in the morning. I came back quite late in the evening on several occasions and there was always someone at the front desk throughout the evening, so I know the hotel security was good as well. The location of this hotel was just great! I was right on the main street where everything is "happening" on this small island (when not at the beach). The hotel was still far enough (about a block) down the main street to avoid the noise from the live bands/music, so you are in the middle of things without losing any sleep because of noise. All in all I loved my stay here and can't wait to come back and sleep in that very clean room with it's comfortable bed and wonderful fresh white cotton bedding. The hotel is not fancy, it is a simple, clean and friendly place that is just perfect for the traveler on a budget.
