We're not city people. So when we visit a city we need a haven from the noise. Casa Santana definitely provides that. When you enter the big door you enter a quiet art gallery / livingroom / dining area. Beyond that is a long garden with hammock, small pool. The three rooms face the gallery and garden. We were the only guests when we stayed so Deborah gave us our choice of rooms. They're all spacious with high ceilings. Ours had big doors we could open to look at the garden. The concrete work, wooden doors, arts and crafts are all beautiful. And the overall feel is comfortable.
Even better than the decor is the helpfulness of Deborah and Reuben. They sent us on a cool excursion to see cenotes in the jungle. The guide takes you on a horse-drawn cart along an old railway. Deborah gave us great stops along the way -an old hacienda for lunch, a pueblo with a pyramid and a church in the town square. Reuben gave us detailed directions to get us in and out of the city.
Every morning at breakfast (my ideal breakfast - fruit, pastry, tea) they told us more about the area and gave us restaurant suggestions. Reuben sent us to a lively cantina where you get free appetizers (botanas) when you order beer. The bar had a comedian and tranvestite singer for entertainment. Then we barhopped for more botanas.
Thanks Deborah and Reuben! We would stay at Casa Santana again.
