We were not too sure what to expect behind the ubiquitous concrete facade that hides every abode in Centro Merida. We were greeted by Ellyne in the most friendly manner and invited in to a private oasis of great beauty and charm. Our stay at Cascadas wil always be remembered for the beautiful private setting, amazing breakfasts, terrific hospitality, lovely modern rooms and tasteful, unique decor and the genuine hospitality and openess of our hosts. An experience not to be missed if visiting Merida. Could not do any better. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

“A Very Unique B&B!”

Cascadas de Merida

My husband and I just came back from a month in Mexico from which we spend two weeks in the charming city of Merida with its warm people and lively music. Our stay in Merida was superb because we stayed in Cascadas de Merida! This is a very special place and please read the other reviews for more details on the property. We have never had a river running through our room! It is the best B&B we have ever stayed-in including European ones! The central location allows you to sightsee the city on foot and to reach all-important attractions. The accommodations are first class, everything works! This is unusual in Mexico. The rooms are spacious and the swimming pool at your feet with the lovely garden, waterfalls and hammocks makes you feel better then at home. The warm welcoming of our hosts Ellyne and Chucho Basto and their succulent breakfasts made our stay unforgettable. The convenient Internet access in the rooms allows you to keep in touch with family and friends and even allows you to work like in my husband’s case. Although we have been to Merida before, Ellyne and Chucho’s traveling tips made us discover new places like the Ek-Balam ruins. We will never forget the afternoon refreshing drinks brought by the smiling Miguel, who together with his mother and sister, take care of the guests and their needs. Thank you Ellyne and Chucho for allowing us to stay in your beautiful B&B and we look forward to visit you in a near future. U & AM

My wife and I returned from the Yucatan in March.
We had the wonderful oppertunity to stay at,
Cascadas De Merida.
What a wonderful place and just as wonderful host.
The home is the owners family home, which has been
updated to his dream B&B. Having exprience in construction
shows from the owners past, given the amount of work done
to transform this place. Water falls cascade down from outside,
which you see from your glass shower . Seats in the pool, just
great on a warm day. You will not be disappionted, the rooms
are all seperate and well appionted.

We had the great fortune to meet and dine with the owner,
our first night there. If you like nice people who care for you,
look after you and yet give you your space "STAY HERE".
What a warm greeting and openess to strangers, I can only
say we were thrilled. Dinner out our first night with a local,
could not have been more fun and good food.
We are world travelers and I can tell you, with all honesty
these are really nice people. This husband and wife team
truly make a difference !

If your going to Merida, put Cascadas de Merdia first on your list
of places to stay. We have visited Merida several times in 2007
& 2008 and this is just the right place to stay.

I had read the fantastic reviews of Cascadas de Merida both on TripAdvisor and in guidebooks. It lived up to it's excellent reputation. It is a lovely property and a beautifully-run B& B. Hosts Ellyne and Chucho take their jobs very seriously. They are warm, hospitable and extremely helpful. The breakfasts were really a treat -- fresh fruit, fresh OJ, omelettes, beans, breads, etc. It was fun to talk to other guests at breakfast time.

The property is very modest-looking from the outside. It's located in a fairly plain, working-class neighborhood. The B&B is gorgeous on the inside. It was lovingly and cleverly redesigned by the hosts. The common rooms were large and very attractive. As all other reviewers have mentioned, the pool area is very pretty and a great place to relax with a beer at the end of a day of sightseeing. Our room was very tasteful and very functional. At last, a quiet AC unit and a room with terrific lighting and windows. The waterfalls in the shower and around the property create a very tranquil feeling. I loved them. One small complaint, however. I wish they were turned on a bit more. Since I took an early shower, before the waterfalls turned on for the day, I never got the full shower experience.

By the way, my husband and I really loved the city of Merida. It was charming and way less touristy than the other cities we went to on our Yucatan vacation. We especially loved the free, evening cultural events. Between the B&B and the terrific city, we had a great experience.

The previous rave reviews describing Cascadas de Merida have eloquently said it all. Upon entering the B&B you are embraced by a myriad of sensory delights. From the sound of waterfalls to the smells of Yucatecan cuisine wafting from your plate you'll know in an instant that you arrived in the best possible accommodations in town! Your hosts, Chucho and Ellyne, make you feel like you are visiting old friends and your stay is too short. They are both a wealth of information and conversation which make your vacation to Merida truly a trip to remember.
