I had read the fantastic reviews of Cascadas de Merida both on TripAdvisor and in guidebooks. It lived up to it's excellent reputation. It is a lovely property and a beautifully-run B& B. Hosts Ellyne and Chucho take their jobs very seriously. They are warm, hospitable and extremely helpful. The breakfasts were really a treat -- fresh fruit, fresh OJ, omelettes, beans, breads, etc. It was fun to talk to other guests at breakfast time.
The property is very modest-looking from the outside. It's located in a fairly plain, working-class neighborhood. The B&B is gorgeous on the inside. It was lovingly and cleverly redesigned by the hosts. The common rooms were large and very attractive. As all other reviewers have mentioned, the pool area is very pretty and a great place to relax with a beer at the end of a day of sightseeing. Our room was very tasteful and very functional. At last, a quiet AC unit and a room with terrific lighting and windows. The waterfalls in the shower and around the property create a very tranquil feeling. I loved them. One small complaint, however. I wish they were turned on a bit more. Since I took an early shower, before the waterfalls turned on for the day, I never got the full shower experience.
By the way, my husband and I really loved the city of Merida. It was charming and way less touristy than the other cities we went to on our Yucatan vacation. We especially loved the free, evening cultural events. Between the B&B and the terrific city, we had a great experience.
