“Don't waste your time”

Xcaret Eco Theme Park

We could have taken the tour through the resort at which we stayed but we opted not to as it was pricier. For the basic ticket, it would have cost $85 which included bus fare to Xcaret. Buying a basic ticket ourselves cost $59USD and you can take transportation by taxi or bus. From the Mayan Palace, you have to take a bus to Playa del Carmen and then switch and take a bus to Tulum. We just took a taxi because he gave us a good price.

The $59.00 includes most everything except for snorkeling and swimming with the dolphins and several other things. The one thing I was most looking forward to was the sky tour and that was cancelled but they only told us that when we got there and they didn´t tell us why.

They only allow you to wear sunscreen that you buy there but I don´t believe they enforce that rule much.

There was a bunch of sections where you could see certain animals but they were all extremely overrated. You could see cougars and jaguars but there were only two that you could barely see. In the butterfly pavillion, you could see a few butterflies but not many. We went on the river tour thing and that was so boring ... they showed us a couple owls. The jungle trail tour is an absolute waste of time. There was nothing to see except some plants and occasionally an iguana.

There are several restaurants on site. Of the two we saw, there was a Mexican restaurant which was $25 per person for the buffet so we avoided that ... we didn´t have much money. Then there was the basic cafeteria... I got pretty much a McChicken sandwich for $8 and my husband got a cheeseburger for the same price.

A lot of the place was damaged or being worked on. The orchid greenhouse was pretty but only a couple orchids were in bloom. There were flamingos but you could only look at them through glass. Then there was a section with deer and a wild boar.

The redeeming parts were the aquarium (though Boston´s is much superior) and the beach. The beach is pretty but by the time we got there we were so tired and sunburned, even with sunscreen, that we couldn´t enjoy it so we went home. We saw everything and we were only there for three hours. There are apparently some interesting shows at night but there was no way we were staying until then.

There are taxis at the door to take you to and from your hotel if you don´t want to take the bus which is what we ended up doing.

“Third time at Xcaret”

Xcaret Eco Theme Park

This was our third trip to Xcaret park and we have finally seen and done all the activities. We did not do the underground river this trip which is wonderful, but did snorkeling on the beach. This is great area for snorkeling with kids as there are very colorful fish in shallow water. The water is clear and there are pelnty of fish where kids can stand on the bottom. Saw the new Mexican church exhibit which is very colorful and up on a high hill overlooking the park. In the past we have done the guided tours- very imformative especially if you speak Spanish. If you like nature you will love this place. If you don' t like trees, animals, or native culture you will probably be better off leaving Xcaret for those of us that do. The reconstruction of the Mayan ballgame is fabulous especially the fireball game. The evening ends with great Mexican folk dancing.

“Great day out!!”

Loved xcaret!! Im 19 and visited with all my family! there is so much to see and do here, i loved the beach at xcaret the water was crystal clear and the sand pure white, u can bob around in the sea in a rubber ring or snorkel and look at the fish, beware of the big long silver fish they r fast and fearless they jump at u, lol.

The underground river is freezing and thought i was gonna die of exhaustion, the river was a huge fear of mine and through out the cave there are chances to get out, but its worth it to go all the way. there are also photographers in the cave ready to take ur pic which u can then later buy if u wish.

The show at night is a must although its all in spanish, u can still understand the story line.

definatly an all day trip but a great day out, i plan on goin again when i visit in june with my friend!

“Best Time in Cancun”

We spent an entire day in Xcaret and it was the best time we had in Cancun. We arrived around 10AM and snorkeled the underground river, which took about 45 minutes. After the river we had a dolphin swim...that was fantastic, spent about 45 minutes in the water which finished with a foot push. The food and service was excelent (included with the plus package) and the shows were fantastic. We will do this trip again on our next visit to Cancun.

However, be warned, if you do not like a little exercise (you will walk and swim all day)then go somewhere else, this trip is not for you.

We went in Xcaret during the second week of March 2006. Do not do this through any company, it would not be worth the cost. We caught a bus, and paid for the tickets at the entrance.

First the good stuff: Most everything was open. We saw everything that we wanted to. The dolphin swim was already booked, but I was not going to pay to do that anyways. They were telling people who wanted to swim with dolphins to make their reservations for the next couple of days, and they would waive the entrance fee the second time. The butterfly exhibit was great. The Mayan shows were also fantastic. The underground river was good. Saw fish, and it was nice to get out of the heat. The food was good.

The bad stuff: Signage ----. Their map was not that great either. It is a big place, and would be easier to get around if those two issues were better. The thing that really ticked me off was they nickel and dimed you to death. We payed the entrance fee, and we also payed the extra $20 bucks for the lunch and the snorkel gear. Then you have to pay for a locker, understandable, but then you have to deposit money for the locker. We did not bring sunscreen as it says only their sunscreen is allowed. We payed $15 for their small tube of sunscreen that was not waterproof. No one else did this, everyone else we saw brought their own sunscreen. Not to be rebels, but if we had known they did not enforce their own rules, and that their sunscreen was expensive and sucked, we would have used our own. ALso they wanted either a deposit or an ID for the snorkel equipment, which they did not tell us at the entrance (waited until we were through the snorkel line). I had to go back and forth to our locker 4 or 5 times for all the little things that are not explained well.

The animals are pretty much in zoo conditions, some exhibits were better than others.

The ruins were not much to talk about, but like I said the Mayan shows were excellent.
