I chose this hotel as it is near a condo I am buying. What a GREAT hotel! Friendly, helpful staff and beautiful tropical atrium lobby great you when you first arrive. I was led to my room on the third (top) floor - it wasnt huge, but it had a queen and full bed, and a very ample bathroom. The furnishings, floor and walls were perfectly clean, and very comfortable. The tv worked great, the shower had plenty of hot water and great water pressure. There was really no view from the two windows, but outside of each room is a wooden table and chairs, overlooking the lobby atrium. Its on the quiet end of 5th Avenue, so there was no noise from the street or from other guests. There is no phone in the room, which was no problem, and no shampoo was provided. But I would recommend this hotel to any budget traveler, or anyone who will be spending most of their time out enjoying all that Playa has to offer.

I´ve been to playa del carmen several times now, and got the opportunity to try and compare different hotels. A friend of mine first told me about Posada Mariposa in 2005; that was my first time at Mariposa. Since then, when I´m in playa del carmen Posada Mariposa is like my home: small and cozy.

The rooms are very clean and comfortable, equiped with mini bar and air conditioning. The decoration is very nice, specially after the remodeling they made. Besides, prices are very accessible and the people in charge of the hotel are always friendly and willing to help. You don´t have to worry about not being able to sleep; there´s no loud bars or discotheques nearby. However, if you are the partying type there´s no need to worry. Everything in playa del carmen is a few steps away.

The location, on the 5th avenue, is excelent ; few steps away from Mamita´s beach. Right across the street there´s an excelent italian restaurant and a coffee shop that serves delicious breakfasts and free internet.

Sincerely, I´ve stayed at Posada Mariposa at least 4 times and I don´t have any complaint. I´m now planning a family vacation for new years eve to playa del carmen, and will be returning to Posada Mariposa : )

We stayed in this hotel for 6 nights and were very pleased with friendly service, location to the beach and 5th av. The entire place is very "non chain" and has a romantic rustic feel.

Do LOCK all your valuables inside provided safe. On the last day, we went to the beach at 6am and left some cache in a beach bag which was gone when we returned at 9am. Nothing else was taken (everything important was in the safe) but it was still unpleasant though not big enough to make a huge complaint about at check-out time.

Posada Mariposa is just what my title says, typical (not luxury), charming with lots of unique character (the interior gardens and walkways are beautful), quiet & clean. The location is superb, right on 5th Av. and 1 block from the beach. After 10:00pm there is a security guard at the front desk. Not that he is needed, but it is nice touch for a female traveling alone. Upon my check-out I was provided a feedback form to fill out and the next day I received a thank-you email from management.

There are different types of travel and different types of travelers.
If you are looking for an all-inclusive luxury resort you would not stay at this or any Posada. I have read many of the comments about PM
and I think the travelers that were not satisfied did not do their research.

As far as cleanliness is concerned, perhaps the knowedge that I lived
in town for 4 years and had a housekeeper 7 days a week (Alicia still
works at our office across from PM) that couldn't ccompletely eradicate the cockroaches, spiders and other beasty insects that are part of living in a carved out jungle. Deal with it is all I can say to the squeemish.

I travel frequently to Playa as a property investment consultant with
the real estate agency across the street from Posada Mariposa. I find
the location unbeatably convenient and will continue to stay there on my business trips.
