My wife and I stayed at the Grand Coco Bay on 4-21-08 - 4-28-08. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. I was concerned about some of the reviews concerning the all inclusive issue so I contacted Hotwire who assured me in writing that I would not have a problem. They were right to a point. The second day my pass card didn't work so I contacted the front desk who advised me that "Hotwire" did not pay the hotel bill. I contacted Hotwire by phone 3 times and was assured the problem would be resolved but on the last day of vacation the problem was not resolved so I had to pay over $700.00 for my stay. Hotwire said it was the hotels fault, the hotel said it was Hotwires fault. I'm still waiting for a response from Hotwire. Next time I will contact the hotel to make sure everthing is taken care of prior to my arrival. There will be a next time. Even though I spent $30 in phone cards to attempt to sort out the problem with the hotel bill, all in all, my stay was great. The employees are friendly. The rooms are clean and the beach is beautiful. I was concerned about the boats being moored in front of the hotel but actually it added to the beauty of the beach. The pool is great. Umbrellas are hard to find unless you get them early. The food wsa good especially in the speciality restaurants. I thought the Mexican restaurant was best. The buffet was your typical buffet. It filled you up but if your want 5 star treatment, make your reservation for the speciality restaurants. The hotel offered a special romantic dinner on the beach for $95. It was well worth the money. We had a table on the beach to ourselves and our own waiter. The food was excellent. We took two tours while there through the tour office at the hotel. The trip to Coba was excellent. The snorkling tour was ok but there was a big problem with transportation back to the hotel. Also beer and food was promised but not received. The snorkling itself was great. You may want to buy some of your gifts at the hotel gift shop. I found some of them cheaper than 5th ave. Also you get a better exchange rate on 5th ave. 11 pesos per dollar versus 10.20 at the hotel. Also be aware of a scam at some of the restaurants downtown. I payed for a meal with pesos and included a 100 peso tip. As I was leaving the waiter told me that the "service "was not included in the bill. I told him I gave him a 100 peso tip and he said I didn't . He was unable to show me the money I had just left 30 seconds ago. We will go back next year. The Grand Coco Bay is not as "touristy" as those in Cancun. Its a great place to relax and have fun.
