My boyfriend Geoff and I just got back from celebrating our 2 year anniversary at Secrets Capri and we had a wonderful time though 6 days was not nearly enough. The resort was just gorgeous and the weather perfect. The food was fantastic and the staff was very, very friendly. In fact, the staff was more fun to hang out with and talk to than any of the other guests who were all very stuck up and snotty in my opinion. We pretty much just ignored their rude staring (I have tattoos, really long fingernails and my boyfriend is very, very pale) and had a blast talking to the bartenders, wait staff and security. As a Mexican American, I speak Spanish fluently and this made us very popular with them. We also tipped well because they work very hard and deserve it! It amazed me to see how many people didn't tip anyone ever.

One complaint, there was no ATM machine on the premises and the nearest one was a $12 cab ride each way at Playa Del Carmen so that made getting money a hassle since we were good tippers and constantly needed to have to get money quite regularly. The shop inside the resort had ridiculous prices. I mean, $180 for swim shorts and $34 for cheap flip-flops? We also really wished that the beach and pool areas didn't shut down so early. We were out all day sightseeing so by the time we got back each night, everything was already dying down and the Desires disco was not really our cup of tea. One peek through the window at the lip-biting finger snappers was all we needed to see to know we were better off drinking Corona's on our balcony. Haha. Otherwise we would have given 5 stars.

We enjoyed several tours to Tulum, Chichen-Itza and the Mayan Adventure snorkeling tour. The guides were all very informative and great, and I can't say much more than they were all worth every penny. The food on the resort was incredible, especially the Mexican antojitos. I told our waiter Antonio that the tamales and ceviche were fabulous and later at the bar, the chef came out to find me to thank me for loving his food! He is from the same part of Mexico that my family is from (Jalisco) and it reflects in his food. For breakfast they serve chilaquiles a the buffet which almost brought a tear to my eye, they were that good. The flautas from the room service menu were good enough to lick the plate.

Lucio was our favorite bartender and was a good laugh. All in all I would definitely recommend this resort and do plan to return. I can tolerate any amount of white bread snottiness if the accommodations, staff and food are excellent and they were. Next year we plan to return and bring another couple or two with us in larger suites in order to be able to really enjoy good company and to go back and say hello to the wonderful friends we made on the staff. Plus, we want to go to Cozumel and to Coba and swim with the dolphins and all of the other things we ran out of time for!

Thanks Secrets staff for your fine service. We had an absolutely amazing time and next year we want to stay 9 days!

    • Liked — The room was spacious, comfortable bed. Nice bathroom. Cool marble floors.
    • Disliked — Lack of ATM machine and difficulties getting cash. Overpriced shops. No cigarettes sold after 11pm.
    • Any tips/secrets for future travellers? — Bring lots of singles for tipping! They bend over backwards for you and appreciate being acknowledged for good service. Mayan Adventure is a must for snorkelers. A phone card is also a good idea.

Everyone should read this review, and then, do NOT read any other reviews. If you want to go to the BEST all-inclusive resort south of Cancun, and if you want the BEST service, the BEST food, the BEST of everything... then go to Secrets Capri. The rooms are perfect, the concierge on your floor (thats right, each floor has their own private concierge) will get you anything you need. Room Service 24-7. The pool is huge and awesome. The bartenders are great, the drinks are wonderful. The weather was perfect. The restaurants have absolutely delicous food, etc. etc. Our honeymoon was perfect. If you are the type of person who needs a great beach, then this might not be the place for you. The beach is fine, just not the BEST beach...however, if you want no kids, a place to be pampered, a lot of privacy, some night life, but nothing too loud or crazy... then, this is the place to go. One more thing, there are no towel nazi's... you can take 3 towels if you want them... thats what I mean about this place... they treat you like adults. When we got on the bus to take us back to the airport in Cancun, we talked with several couples who stayed at other places in the Playa Del Carmen area, and there was only one couple who said their stay was truly outstanding and memorable... that would be US!
Wait, dont go there.... I want the place all to myself next time I go. If you want to know anything else, or want some pics... email me at: itsteve888@yahoo.com

“Loved it, can't wait to go back!”

My boyfriend and I just got back from Secrets Capri October 24th. The hotel is definetly 5 star, very clean with travertine tile everywhere. The pool is great. Never had a problem getting a seat on the beach or at the pool. Get you towels in the morning. The day of arrival we went to get towels around 4pm and there were none. Alot of people do not return their towels when done with them so they cannot be washed and made available to other guests.
We had an ocean front room on the first floor. It was amazing. Just a few steps down a grassy areas outside of our balcony and we were on the beach. Just a few yards away was a bar. Ask for room 160!!
The food was great. The portions were small but after you eat an appetizer, main course and dessert it was enough. I guess we are used to everything in America being supersized, which is not good.
The complaints we had were they did not have Chardonnay or Miller Light beer, and you could smoke eveywhere, even in the restaurants. Yuck!
The staff was great from the restauraunts to the bars and the lobby concierge. We tried to tip most of the time , but eveyone was really nice before they knew we were tipping them.
Two lobby concierge personnel Susana and Javier helped us out a great deal in making calls to American Airlines to change our return flight. They did not want us to worry about having to this ourselves nor to pay for the calling cards.
We had a 80 minute couples massage that was very relaxing. It was suspose to be a deep tissue massage but the pressure was not hard enough.
We are already thinking about when we will go back next year.

We stayed at Secrets Capri from Oct 4- 10. My wife and I travelled with 3 other couples, all were celebrating birthdays. From the moment we arrived the staff bent over backwards for us !! Special thanks go out to Lucely, Javier, and our floor concierge Miguel !! The resort was beautiful and very clean. The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to accomodate us. The food was fantastic and nicely presented and the waiters never had a problem with us ordering more than one entree. The management at the resort made special arrangements so that our group of 8 could eat dinner together every night. I recommend that if you're travelling with a group that you contact the management at least a month ahead of time so that they will be prepared for you , as they were for us. Thanks again to the whole staff at Secrets Capri!!

“Disapponted as well”

Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun

I have to agree some with the prior review by Melbertie. I too had read all of the reviews and most of the posts on the forum prior to leaving and probably had expectations that were too high. I was there from 10/18 - 10/22. My wife and I, are in our mid 30's and just took a long weekend to get a way and just wanted to relax. For that purpose the resort was great.

We had no problems getting from the airport to the hotel. I had booked non stop transport and we were in a van with two other couples. The ride was only about 30 minutes and was uneventful. Check in was quick. I think from the time we landed until we got into our room was only about 2 hours. The room was very nice. We had an ocean front junior suite, 218. No problem with the bed or the window to the bathroom. One problem was that my wife wanted to shower after we got to the room but there was no hot water. We checked with the front desk afterward and he said that work was being done on our side of the resort and it would be back on soon. He said our concierge should have told us. Well she was nowhere to found. And why didn't they tell us when we checked in? No answer.

We had a little issue with housekeeping. There is turndown service, but I guess they missed our room one night. Also, they didn't clean our room as quickly as I would have liked during the day. We were out of our room from 10 ish to about 3:30 or 4 and a couple of days our room wasn't cleaned yet.

My biggest disappointment was with the food. Everyone seemed to rave about the food, including the GM, Eric. For breakfast we had the buffet, nothing special, but the presentation was nice and there were a lot of choices. We had lunch by the pool when we ate lunch. Mostly it was chips and guac. I did have the pizza once which I liked and my wife the veggie pita which had veggies that were different than what the menu said. The seafood restaurant was the best, Oceana. The fish we had was very good, but small. Order appetizers. The steak I had at the steak house was pretty bad. I had the ribeye and it was very tough and fatty. I had sushi at the asian restaurant. The pieces were very thinly sliced. All I tasted was rice. And the rice seemed like it was chilled. My wife had pad thai, but they had no peanuts. That is a main ingredient. We didn't eat at the Italian restaurant. One night was Mexican night and they had authentic mexican dishes served buffet style at the beach. I thought this was the best food.

The service at the restaurants and around the pool was good to very good. It depended on whose section you were in. The pool bartenders were very busy and very good. I would have liked to have some top shelf tequila though. They do have Grey Goose at the lobby bar, just have to ask for it. I might have finished it though.

We didn't go to the beach, just stayed at the pool. We did walk along the beach and did notice the murky water. We didn't participate in the activities by the pool. They weren't pushy which was good. At night, we liked the singers/guitar players on the beach. We able to sit on our balcony and listen. I thought they were very good. Also, karaoke (sp?) was fun.

Overall, we had a good time and glad we went. The weather was great, the pool was great. I don't think we would go back. The food was just okay and the service was not as good as the reviews raved about. Maybe our expectations were too high. I thought we'd get the service you would get if you stayed at the Ritz or 4 Seasons or hotels like that. It's not close to that.
