My boyfriend Geoff and I just got back from celebrating our 2 year anniversary at Secrets Capri and we had a wonderful time though 6 days was not nearly enough. The resort was just gorgeous and the weather perfect. The food was fantastic and the staff was very, very friendly. In fact, the staff was more fun to hang out with and talk to than any of the other guests who were all very stuck up and snotty in my opinion. We pretty much just ignored their rude staring (I have tattoos, really long fingernails and my boyfriend is very, very pale) and had a blast talking to the bartenders, wait staff and security. As a Mexican American, I speak Spanish fluently and this made us very popular with them. We also tipped well because they work very hard and deserve it! It amazed me to see how many people didn't tip anyone ever.
One complaint, there was no ATM machine on the premises and the nearest one was a $12 cab ride each way at Playa Del Carmen so that made getting money a hassle since we were good tippers and constantly needed to have to get money quite regularly. The shop inside the resort had ridiculous prices. I mean, $180 for swim shorts and $34 for cheap flip-flops? We also really wished that the beach and pool areas didn't shut down so early. We were out all day sightseeing so by the time we got back each night, everything was already dying down and the Desires disco was not really our cup of tea. One peek through the window at the lip-biting finger snappers was all we needed to see to know we were better off drinking Corona's on our balcony. Haha. Otherwise we would have given 5 stars.
We enjoyed several tours to Tulum, Chichen-Itza and the Mayan Adventure snorkeling tour. The guides were all very informative and great, and I can't say much more than they were all worth every penny. The food on the resort was incredible, especially the Mexican antojitos. I told our waiter Antonio that the tamales and ceviche were fabulous and later at the bar, the chef came out to find me to thank me for loving his food! He is from the same part of Mexico that my family is from (Jalisco) and it reflects in his food. For breakfast they serve chilaquiles a the buffet which almost brought a tear to my eye, they were that good. The flautas from the room service menu were good enough to lick the plate.
Lucio was our favorite bartender and was a good laugh. All in all I would definitely recommend this resort and do plan to return. I can tolerate any amount of white bread snottiness if the accommodations, staff and food are excellent and they were. Next year we plan to return and bring another couple or two with us in larger suites in order to be able to really enjoy good company and to go back and say hello to the wonderful friends we made on the staff. Plus, we want to go to Cozumel and to Coba and swim with the dolphins and all of the other things we ran out of time for!
Thanks Secrets staff for your fine service. We had an absolutely amazing time and next year we want to stay 9 days!
