It was a great choose. I thank to TripAdv and his users to help me on my search for an hotel to stay at PDC. The hotel is clean, beautiful and don't have so much noises inside the room, despite of the hotel stays near of many bars and night disco clubs. And the price it was a great value… The staff was very, very loveable all the time, and could help me every time I need.

My Fiance and I stayed at the TCB the week of Nov 2-9 2007.
We had been looking for the perfect little hotel to get married at in April and after much searching found this little gem!!

We thought we should go and check it out beforehand to scope out the location, rooms, staff and make the final wedding arrangements and we were not dissapointed!!

The hotel has only 20 rooms and a 6 bedroom villa. The reception area is an open palapa with desk, sitting area and morning coffee and pastries served by Alex every morning with a smile.

The rooms though basic were clean and comfortable. Great pillows, fridge and nice bath products. Great large towels and bath robes were also provided.

Nicola, the boss, is amazing. She and Hennie (sp?) are planning the wedding and it will be amazing cannot wait to post that trip report!!

They were doing a few renos while we were there, but workers/noise were at a minimum and caused no problems.

Nice little pool with loungers. On Sat. nights they host a BBQ, the cost was $10.00pp and the food was great. It is BYOB and guest, friends, dive shop staff and the odd wandering local was in attendance!! It was great

The dive shop, The Abyss, was great. My fiance took his deep water cert and I went for a couple of rec. dives. Dave, Stefan, Feta & the rest of the staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

The one and only downfall of this place is the noise from the beach bars a block or so away. Not bad most nights and the A/C covered it up nicely. We were also at the front of the hotel so that probably made it a bit noisier.

The location could not be beat. Half a block in either direction and you were on 5th or the beach!! Great bars, restaurants, shopping and the beautiful sea are just steps away. You have to try the Mango Daquiries at Babe's Noodle Bar they are the best and of course no trip to Playa is complete without a meal at Dr. Tacos!!

All in all, a great week spent with friendly helpful staff and if small , intimate and well placed is what you like this place is for you!!

“Loved Playa and Tropical Casablanca”

Tropical Casablanca

1 Nov 2007

My husband and I returned recently from an awesome vacation in Playa del Carmen. The trip was amazing and without any major glitches! Playa was a super destination for us. We are both hard working professionals (with no kids) and live by the adage “work hard play harder”. Playa fit the bill! Great beach, a ton of restaurants and shops, nightlife and touristy stuff. Our hotel was perfect for us. Great location and not huge like some of the all inclusive places. This place was small and intimate, close to the beach, like right across the street close and one block from 5th Avenue. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful with tropical plants and palm trees. The hotel even has it’s own cenote with fish and turtles in it. The swimming pool is nice for a dip after a day at the beach or to just relax with your morning coffee.
We did a couple of day trips, one to Tulum – beautiful - and one to the island of Cozumel – very cool!
I have no hesitation in recommending this travel destination as well as the Hotel Tropical Casablanca.

This hotel is located one block from the beach, on a quiet side street only a few blocks from the bustle of the main drag, 5th Avenue -- truly convenient to everything. There is a dive shop on site, which is *very* convenient for those 8:30am morning dives. It was the easiest dive vacation I have ever taken in the area: just get up, walk outside to be greeted with coffee and cookies while the dive shop staff set up my gear. Then, suit up, walk a block to the boat and wake up hitting the water.
A low-cost transport from the Cancun airport was booked by the hotel to meet me upon arrival so I did not have to deal with the chaos outside of the airport doors. The hotel was *impeccably* clean and the grounds were lush and welcoming, smelling of all the flowering plants. The rooms were set back off the street and there is a nice clean pool in the forefront for swimming, relaxing under the palms, and people watching. They had a cenote right on the property that had cute little turtles living in there they let me feed lettuce. There was also a really great view of the ocean and Cozumel from the roof but I am not sure I was supposed to be up there:)
The room came equipped with all sorts of wonderful treats: a bottle of wine and real wine glasses, robes, a refrigerator, nice toiletries (no Rose Venus soap!!), soft sheets and towels, and I found out the staff will happily arrange to stock the fridge with whatever you request prior to arrival!! While there, staff will also get you anything you want from tours to rental cars to groceries to delivery food and were all extremely nice, knowledgeable, helpful, and polite. It was not your typical experience with a Mexican hotel. The service was to 5 star standards and the room only cost $70USD!!!
They also have a large house on site they said could accommodate groups of up to 10 and comes with a cook. They have a dive shop in Tulum too that can organize cave and cenote diving for guests. All the dive guides were really good and friendly and it was nice to hang out with them at the hotel at the end of the day, learning about the animals of the reefs. I got to experience diving in the ocean and the cenotes with barely leaving the hotel! I have been to Playa many times over the last 13 years and this is by far the BEST hotel I have ever found in the area, not to mention an excellent value.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — convenience and the wonderful, helpful staff
    • Disliked — the bars down the road played their music too loud on 2 nights out of 8 so I couldn't hang outside. Room was still quiet enough to sleep, though.

After checking in to another nearby hotel and having several problems with my room I walked around to check out a couple of other places and was lucky enough to stumble upon Tropical Casablaca. I felt as if Jose who was at the desk adopted me as he made the transition from my other hotel very easy and he was so accomodating. My room was large and clean with a fridge and small balconey. Best of all the bed was a very comfortable pillowtop - much better than most of the hard beds found in this area! The grounds are very pleasant with the gardens, cenote and great pool. The beach is steps away. The staff/owners were warm and friendly and I was really happy with my stay!
