My wife & I only stayed one night but we enjoyed meeting the folks there and the room very nice. The staff made us very comfortable, they're great people. If you want small & quiet this is the place. It's only a short walk to everything including the beach. A short walk to the north of the hotel area the beach gets less populated, and to south a few kilometers there is a beautiful beach.

Aqualuna is a nice new hotel on 10th Avenue, close enough to the action but a little quieter so you can actually get a good night's sleep. The rooms are small but clean, comfortable and functional. The high speed internet works well. The included breakfast across the street is good, for a nominal fee you can add additional side dishes but that is not really necessary. You have free access to a beach club three blocks away with nice beach chairs and waiters that will bring you $5 pina coladas while you sun yourself. The staff is friendly and helpful and since it is a relatively small hotel, the service is more personal.

Not a cheap hotel, but a very reasonable alternative to some of the noisy downtown hotels.

From our experience we would say, don´t bother with Aqua Luna hotel. We arrived in Playa del Carmen and checked into the first hotel we could find, it was a good price, clean, had a small pool etc. We said if we found something worth moving, we would the next day. We found Aqua Luna and from the outside it looked nice, the lady at reception, although nice, knew nothing and gave us false promise after false promise. To cut a along story short we booked and paid for 3 nights up front with her. She promised us a promotion deal, beach club access, a pool at the beach club, breakfast etc (only to be disappointed) .... the next morning we checked out of our hotel only to discover that Aqua luna refused to honour the deal (which we had paid for and were given a reciept). The manager (who it took two hours to finally get him on the phone) refused to negotiate anything and never even apoligised for the inconvenience it caused us.

We will echo the excellent service comments from our fellow travelers. My wife and I have been going to Playa for many years and have yet to find the perfect spot.

The staff is excellent and the rooms new and spotlessly clean, but the cost, while reasonable, is a little too expensive given the location and the pricing at similar properties.

The breakfast (included) at a nearby restaurant is very good and convenient. We also received some excellent restaurant recommendations from the staff. The included beach club is in a good, convenient location to the hotel, but not quite as well-kept as some of the others, though the staff was fine.

We would not hesitate staying here again if availability was a problem at some of the other properties we'd like to try. Otherwise, we will continue searching for our perfect Playa hideaway.
