I booked a last minute-trip and flew the following morning. Cancun Immigration really needs to sort itself out. The Hall was so full that the lines snaked back up the escalators to the gates. I counted 4 officers on duty. My flight from NY arrived the same time as several jumbo's from Britain. It took over an hour to get through.
I booked r/t trip transfer with Traffic Tours who I would use again. I arrived at the BBE at 3.30 - so 30 mins after official check-in. Nadia processed me + I could tell by her face (I speak a little Spainsh) that there was a problem. I had booked an Ocean-View Swim-up Suite and the only one available for me was still occupied by guests who had been a late check-out by mistake.
She apologized, gave me the key to another suite in the same block + told me to call in an hour.
I was taken by golf cart to my room, it is true the resort is very big so the standard rooms are a long way from the beach.
The suite was beautiful. 2 large bathrooms, a lounge dining area, great bedroom, 2 LCD TV's, coffee maker, fully stocked fridge etc.
After almost 2 hours I spoke to the Concierge in my block and told her I was unhappy I wanted my room as I checked in at the correct time and she immediately, went in and removed the luggae and made me keys.
The first thng I did was swim in the suite's pool which was absolutely gorgeous and order room service.
The best meal was breakfast, the buffet was superb. Lunch was fine too. I also was puzzled by the whole reservation thing, when I went into the restuarants they were practically empty!! I had Seafood one night and steak the next, they were fine, nothing fantastic but fine.
Room-service menu was good and took 30 mins on average. The bar tenders would always make drinks to my specifications and had no problem adding in more tequila/vodka etc when I requested it. The swing bar on the ocean was always a fun place to hang-out.
I tipped each time I ordered a drink, just a $, but they appreciated it and I never felt that they expected it. I also tipped at each meal. It may be 'All-Inclusive' but I believe in good karma.
I cant relate to the complaints about the staff at all.The concierge for my building (Coma) was so helpful, she knew I didnt get my room until late and I had a fruit platter, glass of wine waiting for me and every night there would be home made petit-fours on a plate.
I left a note asking for extra water and coffee and got it every day. There was even a small bar in my room with vodka brandy tequila etc. The room was cleaned 2x a day and was spotless. All the restaurants and common areas were very, very, very clean.
The main pool was huge and lovely with hundreds on sunbeds.
The beach was great but due to the natural eco-system you do get weed and rocks etc. I saw them cleaning and raking constantly.
I hate to say it but I do think I got fantastic treatment as I booked and paid for the Ocean View Swim-up Suite, the top class of room. Standard rooms were $89 on Book-it.com and I paid $249 for my room and consider it was worth very penny!
I had a wonderful break and am planning on returning in June.
