“Very comfortable and relaxing stay”

Pueblito Escondido Resort

8 May 2008

My husband and I stayed at the Pueblito Escondido for 4 nights in May. The rooms are very comfotable, spacious and nicely decorated (we stayed at the Junior Suite), unfortunately our suite had an ugly view from the bedroom and a not so nice view from the living room. The master bedroom had a window towards the corridor, so we had to keep the shades down all the time, and the living room window/terrace looked over the street (we were on the 2nd floor). But other than that the room was excellent.

Pros: The 4th floor pool is beautiful and most of the time it´s almost empty (especially before 4:00 pm). The view is amazing, the infinity pool looks over the sea and nothing compares with the color of the water of la Riviera Maya. The barman is very friendly and helpful and the piñas coladas are delicious! The barman service is until 6:00 pm, after that you can bring your own drink to the pool area. The rooms are very comfortable and nicely decorated. The restaurant down the street of the hotel, La Cueva de Chango is wonderful, the breakfast there is unbelievable!

Cons: The beach is literally 50 feet away, but the resort does not own beach chairs or umbrealls, so you have to walk to the Mamitas Beach Club (a couple of blocks away) and hope to find and empty chair (we tried two days and never found a chair or an umbrella, the empty ones had a reservation sign on them, but we tried calling to make a reservation for the next day and they said they did not accept reservations...).

The girls that work at the reception are not so nice or helpful, you have to be extra nice to them and then they will start treating you nicely.

The cleanup service isn´t very good, the first day they came to clean up our room at 10:00 am and we were still asleep, so we asked them to come back later, and they almost didn´t come back, we had to call the recepction at 4:00 pm and ask them to send someone to change our towels and make our bed. They didn´t leave soap or shampoo, again, we had to call the reception and ask them to send us shampoo. We left some empty water bottles on the kitchen counter and they never picked them up.

But, overall we had a very pleasant stay and we would definetely come back.

My wife and I stayed there for 4 nights in a penthouse suite. The suites are excellent quality, the bed was very comfortable, huge showers, etc. The private pools are only private if no one else is staying in the other suites so I am not sure they are worth the extra cost but they are very nice. The location to the beach is amazing, you have a 1 min walk to the beach and you are about a 10 minute walk to Mamitas and Kool Beach clubs which are excellent places. They do have some minor issues to deal with regarding the maid service. The sheets on the bed had spots and they would leave us some new towels that had old nail polish on them and it was very obvious so I don't know why the maid would do that. They leave you enough towels though that this is a pretty minor thing in our opinion. The location to 5th avenue is pretty good, it's about a 15 - 20 min walk to get to where the action is. This is good in that no noise at night but for others it might be a little far from the action. The hotel was not very busy at all while we were there and we only ever saw 2 people at the roof top pool.

“An Objective Review”

Pueblito Escondido Resort

1 May 2008

Seeing all the prior reviews here is a bit frustrating as I do not believe they accurately portray the hotel.

I am going to try and be as objective as possible and not just be 'that guy' who had one bad experience and then pretends everything else is terrible.

Witihin a day at the hotel, I had this strange attitude that I was getting pretty decent value for my $ as it was a nice place and not too expensive, but it seemed to needlessly keep itself from being much nicer.

There were a bunch of little things that really did add up by the end even though I am not very sensitive to just one or two of them alone. First, there were stains on like three different towels, as well as the sheets one night, and while I assume they were permanent and still washed, it is not nice to look at a white towel with spots on it and they should be tossed.

In one of the rooms we were in, the shower completed flooded the bathroom. When we told them of this, they came and changed the shower head to one that didn't do this, but it seems very strange if it was such an known and fixable problem, to not have done this. In that same room, the layout made little sense. The TV in the common room only had a small 2 person seat in front of it rather than being in the huge part of the room with seating for many. What was really strange though was that the TV in the bedroom could not be viewed from at least half of the bed. It is a four post bed and they put the tv in the corner, so there is a post going right through the center of it.

The door to the roof did not properly open and close and you literally had to jump your body into it and it made a very loud screaching sound. I don't mean to nit pick with a detail like this, but these things are just so uncessary and they could easily charge much higher rates if they just stepped up the feeling of class.

Finally, the one thing that did really get to me and I think is terrible on its own is that we arranged for a wakeup call the morning of our flight, and, you got it, the phone never rang. I managed to have enough good sense to have taken precaution with my cell phone, but they don't even have alarm clocks in the room so they really could have screwed us bad on this one.

In quick some, the hotel property is nice, the roof is pretty cool, and the rooms have a lot of potential. They just need to step up the quality of the stuff inside and the service so that it doesn't feel so cheap. Then it would be capable of getting a good rating even if the prices were double. As it stands, I feel this hotel really needed review giving a more detailed opinion.

“Great Find in Playa”

Just returned from Playa with our two kids aged 11 and 13. We also had little information on the Pueblito at the time of booking. As a general rule the reviews are bang on. This place is a gem. The location is in a quiet area of Playa but walking distance to everything. Beach is yards away and 5th is 2 minutes up the street. I would guess the walking time to the docks which is the other end of town is 20 to 25 minutes at a very casual pace - our kids walked it every night with no complaints. The beach clubs are about a 2-3 minute walk to the right and cost about $6-7 for
2 chairs.
The staff was very good and helpfull. They handled any requests we had immediately.
We did rent the Penthouse and were very happy with it. All the Penthouses have pools. I would describe the pool area for the Penthouses as an open concept. The have limited privacy and are separated by walls about 3' high. We would use the pool in the late afternoon and night. Shop around the web as prices for the Penthouse differ as much as $120 per night !. The adult pool was very nice and quiet. Never more than 10 people . I think most people hit the beach.
I was able to view a Junior Suite ( main level) it was bigger than I expected. If you want to save some money and don't care about having your own pool these are a great set up for 2.
Most places in Playa will take Pesos or US dollars and prices are listed in both however some use a poor conversion. A price of $10 will cost you 100 pesos at some places and 110 pesos at others. Having both available could save you a little. There are very poor exchange rates for travelers cheques, it's best to use the ATM at a reputable bank like Scotia Bank - they have a couple of locations.
Many restaurants in Playa. As a general rule the food is very good at most places ( never had a bad meal ). I've broken down the choices to 3 types. At the loud, flashy, "nice" places on 5th you'll pay top dollar. The little 'hole in the wall' type places on 5th you'll get good food at a good price. Almost anywhere off of 5th and I'm talking only 3/4 of a block you'll find local places that are very reasonable in price. The same bottle of wine ranged from $40 on 5th to $14 away from 5th.
Be aware of the time share selling. They are all over the place disguised as stand that sell excursions. They will offer you discounts on these tickets for your time at these 'resorts' - a little digging found that the sales presentation lasts 3 hours and you can negotiate a discount of about $75 per person on the excursion.

My husband and I just returned from Pueblito Escondido. We absolutely loved it. Rooftop pool was the best - awesome view, great breeze so it never got too hot. Other pool was great too - both have plush lounge chairs with cushions - a couple of days we had the pool to ourselves. We were interested in the penthouse, but booked the Jr Suite instead - glad we did - Penthouse pools have no privacy - might was well get the Jr Suite and just enjoy the rooftop pool.

Jr Suite was large (1150 sqft) and immaculate. Beds are comfy, however sheets a little stiff (I'm spoiled with high thread count!).

Staff was extremely nice and helpful. We arranged our airport transfers through the condo - $60 each way and well worth it.

Beach was right outside the entrance to PE - truly a 30 second walk. Great strip of beach in front of PE.

We highly recommend this condo and would definitely stay here again.
