This should have been a slice of luxury but there were so many niggling problems.
We had a ground floor room right next to the entrance. Noise could be heard from the road (though this wasn't very bad) and also from a nearby generator. The room had a pool extending from inside the room to an outside sitting area, though it wasn't possible to swim between the two. In order to completely close the curtains in the room it was necessary to wade into the pool!
There were an enormous number of light switches to operate the numerous lights, but even with them all on it was a dim room. It was extremely frustrating having to run through so many switches to get the light you wanted! The room had a safe (inconveniently at ground level), a ceiling fan and A/C. Water supplied to shower and sinks was salty.
Privacy was not a strong point. The outdoor sitting area and the interior of the room were visible from the nearby path. The room had an indoor and an outdoor shower but the outdoor shower could be seen from a path, so we never used it. There was a large space at the top of the partition between the two showers through which a lizard entered the room – it eventually left the same way so we stuffed the gap with a towel – the next night it was poised to come in again but we got there first!
The bed had a wood base sticking out around the mattress. We both banged our shins on it several times, leaving bruises and broken skin.
Some good points: lots of bottled water was provided free of charge, a tube of insect repellent was also provided free of charge. Lots of towels, including two beach towels. Dirty towels were replaced at the turn-down service in the evening, though one evening the maid came before we'd returned from the beach for a shower before dinner so we were left with lots of wet towels.
The location is fantastic but they need more covered beach beds – no-one was prepared to lie out in the sun when we were there. Service is excellent throughout the hotel, and particularly on the beach where we enjoyed drinks and lunch (superb burgers!). We didn't eat in the restaurant but had snacks in the bar (not very comfortable seating) – one ham and cheese plate was excellent and easily enough for two. The bar ran out of cachacha for caipirinhas . The following night a caipirinha was nevertheless served, though it had been made with vodka – we were not informed that this would be the case when ordering.
Breakfast was probably the poorest we had on our travels in Mexico: the orange juice was not freshly squeezed, the American breakfast was eggs and refried beans – no bacon or hash browns. American breakfast was included with our room and we were told if we chose anything else on the menu other than American or Continental we would have to pay extra – even though everything else was cheaper than the American!
Early on our first morning one of the wall light covers crashed to the floor while we were sleeping. We reported it and, though it was quickly cleared up, it was not replaced, leaving a bare bulb dangling.
When we left we had an early departure and the hotel provided us with a boxed breakfast with a couple of croissants, sandwich and several pieces of fruit.
