My wife and I spent 5 nights at Tierras del Sol in April of this year. This was our second visit to the property after an outstanding stay last November.

We spent 2 nights in Alta Mar (outstanding 2nd story cabana) and then three wonderful nights in the beach-front cabana with the palm trees growing out of the deck. Both cabins were outstanding, although Alta Mar has much more space to unpack. Staying on the beach is an experience like none other, and highly recommended.

Carlos, Fernanda, and Serena are outstanding hosts, and catered to our every need. Thank you guys for making our return stay as outstanding as the first time we stayed with you.

The beach in front of Tierras Del Sol is one of the best and most private in Tulum. There are 5 great restaurants to walk to including Casa Magna next door to the South where lunch is whatever they decide to serve you......and always outstanding!

If you want early morning coffee - you can walk down to Las Ranitas where they put coffee on as early as 6:30AM.....simply walk right in and help yourself! We then walked back to Tierras del Sol every day for their breakfast which is outstanding.

You really can't beat this place, and the price is right. We'll be returning a third time in November!

“Perfect-- even during the slow season”

I disagree with the comment below. I stayed there with my fiance and we didnt see any other guests there since it was the slow season in early August. It was dark out when we arrived and Carlos promptly showed us to our room which was down a sandy walkway, lit by a beautiful full moon, leading to the ever-increasing sound of the waves crashing into the shore. Our cabana was beach-front and the breeze felt amazingly refreshing and absolutely tranquil.

There are restuarants within walking distance for meals other than breakfast (which is all TDS serves during that time) ... however it wasnt a far walk at all and why would one even stay in a secluded, limited amentity area if they dont even want to walk not more than a few hundred yards? I would recommend renting a car as it is fairly cheap and fun to ride around in anyways... with taxi costs it really would even out.

All in all, the owners were friendly, there when you needed them, and not there when you didnt. It is secluded, beautiful, serene, peaceful, awe-inspiring, laid-back, calm, and all-around my most memorable vacation... I think about it all the time.

The cabanas are wonderful and rustic, the salt-showers are nothing to complain about, and I even woke to an iguana in my room staring at me. --quite amazing if you're into nature-oriented experiences.

..if none of this sounds like you-- then by all means go to an AL and be hearded around like sheep with tags on your wrists. If this does sound amazing-- then let borrow some money and I'll come with you ;)

We stayed at TDS in November '07 but haven't written a review before now as there seemed to be nothing new to say, but with recent posts, I'd like to add a comment or two. I agree that this spot is perfect if you want to "get away from it all". The beach is wonderful; quiet, endless and practically deserted. The owners and staff are friendly and willing to give their guests all the distance they wish. All of the cabanas are clean and just steps from the gorgeous beach. We would have been comfortable in any of them.
But, if you are there during a slow season as we were, be aware that some of the amenities posters here rave about may not be available. The only meal served while we were there was breakfast. There are restaurants in the general area but most are a long walk down the beach, making it necessary to have a car to allow choices for meals other than breakfast. When we arrived there was ice melting in the communal cooler but it was never replaced so there was no storage for food or water. We asked about ice and were told there was none.
Also, there is hot water only in the evenings while the generator runs.
I would not discourage people from staying at TDS, indeed the beach and peace & quiet are wonderful. But know what you are getting before booking and be sure to have transportation - TDS is far enough down the beach road that taxis do not prowl the area and the best restaurants (Peidra Escondida, Ana Y Jose, Luna Maya) are too far away to walk.

“Our Little Gem!!!”

My Husband and I went to TDS On Feb. 14, 2008 for one week. I didn't get a chance to write this review until now. My daughter and I have been in Manzanillo, MX. for the past month. Posting and review for this trip coming soon. Back to TDS. We had the best vacation ever. Julio was our host for the entire stay and we loved him. Carlos and his wife were on vacation. Being the owner's they do get time off to be with the family. Where do I start... the cabana was perfect and then some. The beach, well look at it for yourself I rest my case. Beautiful!!! I put pics up for all to view. The sand was snow white and soft as powdered sugar. It never gets hot on your bare feet. The breeze we had from our Beach front Cabana, was perfect. They provided everything for us. No need for a ice chest. We had one of those huge plastic ice chest that would hold 2 1/2 cases of beer. We did not have a car and we really didn't need one. The town of Tulum is ok, not much to see and is only 10 min. Taxi drive away for $10.00. We ran out of ice a couple of times and Beer and Ciggs. Julio was so sweet to take time out to go to the little store about 3 miles away and pick up these items for us. Make sure you tip!!! He used his gas and car and time for us. We always felt very special. The shrimp at the small and quaint resturaunt was great and so was the coffee. The cooks are so wonderful, and they also clean your Cabana everyday with new sheets and toilet paper. we always had pretty flowers in our room. It is best to bring these items for your trip and only these items... A couple of bathing suits or not, I mean we wore our's the first day and only the first day. Very few people around, and most are topless or nothing at all, even the men. So secluded. I loved it, such freedom. OK back to the list, a couple of small flashlights, drinks and flipflops. We over packed!!! All of the bars and resturaunts are down the beach a short walk, great exercise. My favorite was "OME". They served the best shrimp and squid dish I have ever tasted with lots of bread to dip in the spicy sauce. The prices are about the same as you would pay at home. So bring money and have it exchanged into peso's. You pay your bill at the end of your stay. We will be back next year and the next and next. We loved this place and we will never forget it. I know that Tulum is building a new airport too, the only thing that bother's me about this is that I don't want this little gem to get over taken by tourist. Thanks to all at TDS and a special thanks to Julio.

My wife and I stayed at Tierras del Sol March 20th -27th, 2008 to celebrate our wedding anniversary. After researching online we settled on Tulum and decided to stay at TDS. From the beginning Carlos was great, promptly returning emails and answering all questions. The first two nights we enjoyed the lovely ocean view cabana, Vilkabamba. We then moved forward one cabana to La posada de los Buzos, which was situated directly on the beach. Both places were great but we really enjoyed the beachfront because we had our own porch with chairs and a hammock to relax in. The March breezes in the evening provided very comfortable sleeping conditions. The staff at TDS were all very friendly and helpful. Our rooms were cleaned daily and fresh towels and linens were provided. The rooms were both perfectly sized along with bathrooms. Although breakfast is served daily we unfortunately had so many things planned to do that we left early each morning before breakfast. We did however enjoy a delicious meal for dinner one evening along with some excellent margarita's and guacamole. The beach at TDS is the most beautiful white sand that I have ever seen, coupled with the clear blue Carribean Sea it is truely a piece of paradise. There is ample parking at TDS and the grounds were immaculate. There are also pleanty of lounges on the beach with umbrellas to protect from the hot Mexican sun. Carlos was a very helpful host, providing the tips for sightseeing etc. that only a local could provide. We both had a wonderful time at TDS and can't wait to return.
