My sister and I just spent a fabulous week in Tulum, where one of the highlights was our stay at Posada Luna del Sur. The owner, Janet, is so helpful and accomodating. She provided excellent recommendations for restaurants, cafes, and beaches. The room was very large and well-appointed with AC, refridgerator, bottled water, and a cute balcony. Best of all, it was kept spotlessly clean. Being two females traveling alone, we also appreciated the locked gate and always felt safe. The location was perfect - walking distance to town and just a quick ride to the beaches and routes to other attractions.

I cannot say enough about Posada Luna del Sur. It is, quite simply, the best hotel in Tulum. And the the price can't be beat.

We flew in to Cancun, and wanted to get out of there as soon as we could. So the plan was to take the airport bus to Playa del Carmen, stay one night there and go on to Tulum the next day. But I just happen to come across the Posada Luna del Sur web site. (Lonely Planet really neds to get this one in their book)So I e-mail Janet the owner who is from Mexico City, but escaped the maddness there. (smart move) She e-mailed me right back and said she had a room for us, plus info like there was no airport bus to Tulum, we would have to take a bus to Playa del Carmen, then another to Tulum. So that is what we did, when we got in to Playa we were so happy we were not staying there, yuck! We got to Posada Luna del Sur, Janet was there to welcome us with open arms, she gave us a tour of the of rooms, showed us a great place to eat on a little map she had and that was it. The room was spotless, it felt like it was having our own apt. Next day took off for the ruins and the beach, since it's 6km away you can a bus. Taxi cost $2.50, had a great time, then had lunch at Diamante K (We were almost going to stay when planing our trip) It's wasa nice place that used a Buddha theme. As a Buddhist I was so turned off by how rude the staff was ! Some Buddhist! Ha! More like Rudest! When we got back to the room I told Janet she was the best hotel owner I ever met. One thing I really love about Janet was that she was there for you if you needed anything, but if not, she left you on your own. I can't stand hotels were the owner is not just happy with you staying there, but they have to ram their tours in your face as well. Janet is a sweetheart, sorry we could not stay longer. What a great place with a graet owner ! We love you Janet ! Steve and Jesse

I went to Tulum for a quick beach vacation over Memorial Day weekend and had a blast. Having never been to Tulum before, I didn't really want to stay right on the beach as many of the cabanas there seemed overpriced. I'm glad I decided to stay at the Posada Luna Del Sur in downtown Tulum. Upon arrival, Janet (the owner) greeted me and showed me to my well apppointed room (AC, small fridge, cable TV, wonderful bed, patio, free covered parking). The rooms are very clean and comfortable with little touches that make your stay enjoyable (i.e., towel sculptures, mosaic tile in the bathroom and hallways). Janet also gave me recommendations as to where to eat in town and what beaches to visit. The hotel is situated in a quiet residential neighborhood, about a 5 minute walk from the main street in downtown Tulum where all of the restaurants, bars and shops are. Getting to the beach by car (or by taxi) takes 10 minutes. I took Janet's recommendation and went to the El Paraiso Beach Club - a wonderful stretch of beach with lounge chairs, a bar and restaurant, umbrellas, plam trees, and free parking. Renting a chair for the day cost $2.50 USD and a beer was approx $2.00 USD. I loved the beach club so much that I went there every day in the afternoon after exploring the ruins of Tulum (10 minutes from the hotel by car/taxi) or Coba (1 hour by car) in the morning. I would definitely return to Tulum and would definitely return to Posada Luna Del Sur (the value can't be beat). If you're looking for a nice, relaxing, low-key vacation, this is the place to stay in Tulum.

If you want a great little hotel that is not too far from the beaches and is very clean & comfortable then Luna del Sur is the place. Janet is very welcoming to every vistor & very helpful in providing information on beaches, cenotes & restaurants to visit. We loved our stay there, no it's not a mega-resort on the beach with 5 star room service & amenities but you certainly can't beat the price & the experience that Luna del Sur provides for Tulum.

We got a room at Posada Luna del Sur at the last minute for a quick weekend get away. When the airline rates dropped, we chose Mexico. The room was large, clean, quiet and charming. It had good air conditioning, a kitchenette with a refrigerator and a huge shower! But it is NOT a "bed and breakfast"! Wonderful bed but no breakfast or bottled water. However, there are little grocery stores and the "down town" with wonderful resturants, coffee shops, fruit juice shops and wonderful gift shops within very close walking distance. We loved the Tulum area and we look forward to repeated visits. Janet provided us excellent advise. It was amazing how great and safe the public tranportation was and how easy it was to do everything we wanted to without any complications. Weather was perfect in Feb!
