Wasnt too bad,
The 30$ rooms are quite well priced. But dont get the overpriced theme rooms, they are quite filthy and not worth the money(we actually got bedbugs from these rooms). Well I suppose all the rooms are quite filthy(and im not a picky person at all)..
the actual property to the hotel is very nice, lots of hammocks and trees etc..
it is kind of a $$ trap though unless you have your own wheels, the restaurant is way over priced, as is the internet use and water...they are quite good at taking your money
I would say this isnt the best budget stay in tulum, if i went back id probly stay down the beach a ways.....

I very rarely respond to reviews, but in this case I feel I must. As most people know you can't please all of the people all of the time. We try, but sometimes no matter what you do, it would never be enough. As is the case with this traveler.
To respond on the money trap issue....There are 2 other restaurants just across the street from El-Crucero, we are all priced accordingly to the cost of doing business here in Tulum. As a matter of fact I challenge you to find cheaper bar prices on premium liquors anywhere in Tulum. Other than buying it at a store downtown and having the audacity to bring it into my bar and expect the staff to give you ice and glasses. Would you bring your own oil to a mechanic when taking your car in for repairs? Some people feel that is an accepted display of frugality. We don't, so you get mad. I am very sorry about that. Also we do not have the luxury of swiping your credit card in case you leave without paying, so we require payment up front. This policy eliminated the bargain travelers from leaving without paying. Which use to happen all to frequently. Not to mention the missing towels, shot glasses and any thing else considered a free souvenir of a persons stay.
To the issue of bed bugs. We have brand new linens, towels and pillows. The dormitories Have brand new beds and mattresses. The rooms are clean. If a speck of peeling paint or your footsteps from tromping through the newly graveled walks upset you. Why would you stay? At 300 pesos a night. Because these complaints usually elicit a hopeful response from us to give you a discount or something free. We are not selling blankets or trinkets. You can try and bargain, and sometimes we will reduce the price based on availability and your attitude. But we will not be intimidated by your search for the cheapest possible price.
As to the price of the internet. The internet is priced accordingly to the cafes in town. Our internet is based on the honor system of payment. Upon check in, we give you the password to the 3 terminals in the lobby. You keep track of the time and you put the amount of money you think you owe in a lock box on the wall. How can that be overpriced unless your conscience bothers you ?
If you look at all the reviews here on El-Crucero you can read between the lines. You can't please all of the people all of the time. We will work with anyone who has a problem with the facility or staff. But only if we are treated with a modicum of respect in turn.
Some people are under the wrong impression that because it is Mexico, it is cheap. Tulum is not cheap overall. We are trying to keep our prices low and our quality of service higher than expected at other budget lodging here.
