This is the kind of place that from the moment I arrived, I knew I wanted to plan my next trip. The staff was incredible, from Melissa, the owner, to Amy, Eduardo, Josh, and everyone else. They really strive to make your stay special and make you feel at home. I can't express what a magical place this is. The food is fantastic, the rooms are gorgeous, and you really do feel like a welcomed guest in someone's home. I will definitely be back.

After a terrible, sleepless night next door at Hamaca Loca, one of my girlfriends and I decided to decamp to something a little more upscale. Casa Magna was convenient and had availability, so off we went. This place is, as others have noted, the former beach house of Pablo Escobar. Architecturally, it's amazing, and it's been beautifully decorated, too.

Our room had sliding doors that opened right onto the beach. The bathroom was luxurious and the shower was large. Plenty of hot water. Terrific view. No bugs. The staff was delightful and very helpful. I had the best guacamole of my whole trip there. In short, we loved it.

My cell signal was weak there, so I went up on the roof (the views are even better up there) to call home. I had a great time here and would go back with my little daughter next winter if I can find the time and money. Go there. Stay there. You won't regret it!

“Casa Magna - the perfect setting for a relaxing escape”

Amansala's Casa Magna

My fiance and I recently stayed at Casa Magna for a week and it was the most amamzing experience.

The rooms are huge and styled beautifully... simple but very comfortable. We had so much space that we spent a number of nights just chilling out in our room on the huge couches and swinging in the balcony hammock.

There was no need to go anywhere... which is exactly what we wanted.

The food was fresh and simple... clean and consistent and the staff were very friendly.

The service is low key... not in your face - sometimes we had to look for staff to get drinks at night but that was part of it's charm. The feeling is more like you're staying in a friends gigantic mansion on the beach. We hardly saw anyone... the beach is private and it's the best strip of sand in the of whole of Tulum.

You don't get much beach walking traffic and you are very separate from neighbouring properties because the block of land is so huge.

We are planning to come back at the end of the year and rent the whole house with a group of friends... which will be a blast.

I feel terrible that Casa Magna has got so many bad reviews when we had such a different experience.

If you don't expect 5 star service - you will be blown away with the relaxed vibe that is goign on there.

It's a very special & totally unique place.

Highly recommended.

“Heartbreaking Disappointment”

This is a heartbreaking review which echoes the same disappointments mentioned by previous reviewers. We planned our wedding in Casa Magna after first visiting Melissa and believing her promises and enthusiasm with regard to planning the wedding for us. However once we signed a contract, her attitude completely changed and she became unprofessional, sloppy, and greedy. She never returned emails or phone calls, constantly charged us additional fees, and cancelled several of our room reservations at the last minute (requiring us to find rooms for over 40 guests) that she left us in a state of extreme anxiety up until the day of our wedding. She did not ever seem to have consistent staff to assist her (they seem to quit on her continually leading one to wonder about her management). In addition, she violated a number of terms of our agreement, everything from room reservations to our menu to pre-agreed upon costs. As a former event planner, I am someone who takes great care in organization and planning; despite my efforts, none of our instructions (from table seating to menu options) were followed. Service was incredibly poor and sloppy. We arrrived at our wedding to be immediatelyt greeted by Melissa screaming at her staff in front of our guests. It was a horrible arrival for what should have been a happy and joyful occasion. Thanks to our families and friends we were able to pull together a wedding on our own but not without considerably more expense and stress. In sum, Casa Magna overcharged and under-delivered. I agree with the others who have similarly suffered from wedding nightmares at Casa Magna: STAY AWAY. Tulum is magical and unfortunately the management and service at Casa Magna ruin what should be a beautiful experience.
