“Extraordinary Experience”

Coqui Coqui Spa

Coqui Coqui in Tulum is one of the most extraordinary experiences we have ever had. Every single detail is appropriate and makes you feel at home. in a beautiful, charming home! Coqui Coqui Spa/Residences is run by a delicious argentinian family who manages and takes care for every single guest.
We wanted to know something more about Coqui Coqui, so we decided to visit the Perfumery and the beautiful Spa they have in Vallladolid, a colonial city one hour away from Tulum.
The elegance and the glamourous touch of the creator gives a unique accent to this enchanting place. Coqui Coqui concept is something to be visited absolutely. Not only for the beautiful places where they are (Yucatan is a wonderful region) but mostly for the way they run the properties and the products they create.
A special feature for the creation of the perfumes.. it is a charming alchemy.

Wonderfult job Coqui Coqui.

I have recently returned to the UK having spent an incredible week at the Coqui Coqui spa in Tulum. Beautiful place and beautiful people. Connie who runs the property is so helpful and nothing is too much trouble. She is assisted by the wonderful Sylvie, Santiago the chef, and several other people who really do take care to offer the very best service. It was a different experience for me. No t.v. or radio, complete relaxation, and to curl up in bed listening to the waves crashing on the shore was bliss.
Each evening when I returned to my room Sylvie had lit aromatic candles which really set the mood for a good nights sleep. The spa is actually on the beach though I never felt unsafe or exposed. There are shops close by should you require water etc and it needs to be mentioned that certain rooms have no power outlets for mobile phones, electric toothbrushes etc.
Having said that I would definitely recommend the Coqui Coqui.

Coqui Coqui Spa

Coqui Coqui is a small, boutique hotel midway through the Tulum beach
road named after the sound of Puerto Rican frogs. It is an Argentinean family owned villa/spa that really subscribes to the motto “mi casa, su casa.” One really feels at home at Coqui Coqui (read in the common area, have a home cooked meal, get a massage at the spa, have fun on the beach, or tan at your private balcony). Nicolas, the architect/owner/botanist/former DKNY model often stays at the property, which is regularly operated by his younger sister Coni and assisted by their former nanny Silvia. In fact, when we visited, the owner’s parents and cousins came to stay, and my husband
and I spent one evening with Nicolas and his family sitting on the beach and sharing a beer under the moonlight. Nicolas already owns a botanic store/spa in Valladolid and is building a residency in Coba.

The hotel has a sort of rustic California look and is inspired by the Mayan stonework. It is very elegant and simple. There is electricity, but no radio/TV, allowing one to really relax and feel as though they are actually on a vacation! The food is wonderful (breakfast in particular), the spa is unbelievable (highly recommend the head massage and the Swedish full body massage), and the view is breathtaking. Each evening, they light different aroma candles throughout your room, creating a beautiful atmosphere and soothing smells of vanilla, lavender, etc. If you are looking for something different, romantic, in tune with nature, and unforgettable, stay at Coqui Coqui: http://coqui-coqui.com/

A note about water: Tulum is still developing, thus water, particularly hot water, disappears after major storms or strong winds. However, that is pretty normal, and they try to fix it as soon as possible. Also, keep in mind that water anywhere on QR is not
drinkable and should not be used on your face or when brushing your teeth. Fortunately, there are plenty of places to buy gallons of water cheap, which you can use for face, teeth, and drinking.

My wife and I just got back last night from our trip. I want to thank you for all of your help in getting us to Coqui Coqui. It is by far the best experience I have ever had on a vacation. The staff, Connie and Juan, were beyond friendly, ever eager to take care of whatever was needed. The Ocean Front Suite on the second floor was way beyond expectations. My wife and I have already discussed going back there in the future. Although some might find the accommodations too simple, it was exactly what we were looking for. Thank you again for your help.

The photographs on Coqui Coqui's website were beautiful and enticing enough for my husband and I to book and prepay five nights at the rate of $270 per night. The photographer was very selective as to what was excluded from the photos. We arrived at 3:30pm. This is what greeted us at Coqui Coqui:
-The gates were closed and locked with a chain and padlock.
-The parking area (across the street and 100 yards away) was surrounded by litter, as was the fence exterior of the Coqui Coqui.
-Once inside the fence, a sand pathway (which also contained litter) led us past a couple old cars and a dune buggy to the hotel and spa.
-The hotel buildings were charming stone structures facing the beach.
-To get to our suite on the second story, we had to climb very steep (15 inch risers) and narrow stairs which lacked a handrail and were on the exterior of the building, completely open on one side -- difficult to maneuver under the best of circumstances
-We were told that the spa had been shut down due to a licensing issue, but that we could use the services since we were staying there (umm, no thanks).
-The view was spectacular, as was the private terrace with double lounger!
The Room:
-Platform bed was located in the corner, preventing it from receiving any cross-breeze.
-The mattress was old, stained and lacked a mattress pad - ick!
-The bathroom was incorporated in the room with a very small pedestal sink -- no counter space for toiletries. The toilet was behind a very long curtain in a 3 foot by 3 foot area.
-There were steps of various heights throughout the room as well as ceiling eaves that we constantly had to be aware of!
-There was electricity, although, the candles (both outside and inside) were charming.
-There was no A/C -- even with the door and windows open, our room averaged 85 degrees, or so -- we're from south Texas and used to the heat, but were still hot.
-There were also small ants that lived on the wall by the bed...

Needless to say, we were very disappointed with the quality of the accommodations considering the room rate. Had we wanted rustic, we would have gone camping and spent a lot less money. We were so tired of being sandy and hot that we left a day early. On a humorous note, the dune buggy that was near the entrance, was the source of power for the well. It was hooked-up to another battery (with jumper cables) which was powering the well. Not a view worth $270 a day.

If we were to ever return to Tulum, we would stay at Ana y Jose's in a beachfront room/suite. We ate two meals there and the resort is pristine and obviously well-managed. We also really enjoyed the meals at Zama's -- great atmosphere, wonderful live music and fabulous fresh food!
