Where do I begin...? I did so much research before choosing Luna Maya, and even though I found VERY little info on the place on the web, I still chose it. I enjoyed every minute as did our family and was able to check out just about every room on the property. They were simple but stylish, very clean, and the staff was the best part. They are like a family there & it shows in their personalities. We will probably miss them the most!

ROOMS- you get what you pay for, the cabana was $45 at the time & simple, super clean, and had beautiful colors, it had a huge fan which kept it cool enough to need a light blanket at night. Nice! The separate bathroom was sooo not a big deal. It was right across from the room and super clean. The quad was just enough room for 4 and the double with more room since it is for 2, & the Suite had a balcony, the Sky Suites are the best rooms of the place. #1 was the best because the view of the beach is front, center, #2 was second best, however, you can still see the beach very clearly and also an amazing view of the Luna Maya courtyard which was ideal - both rooms very nice and had super cute art accents everywhere with water pans to clean the sand from your feet in front of the door to the room. The water flow in the Sky Suites however was only hot for room #2 while I was there, don't know if it is fixed for good, the staff certainly took it serious when we told them & got up there right away. This didn't bother me in the least since I love hot showers and by the evening, the breeze sometimes was so cold that the heat felt nice. I'm not a huge complainer as you can see, but this was all true in the sense that if I'd had a problem, I'd sure say it. However, you can also go downstairs and use the public shower if needed which was kept extremely clean always.

BEACH- was private and clean enough to say it was clean. There was little seaweed in speckles not patches, and in comparison to other areas in the beach town, it was clean. The beach chairs weren't very comfy, however, they have hammocks which made me not ever even think to use the beach chairs. The hammocks were wonderful and when I wanted to sunbathe directly in front of the water, I just laid my towel on the soft sand. Very soft sand I must add.

FOOD - The food at Luna Maya was incredible. It was fresh and probably among the best in the immediate area since I did eat at each place in the area. Piedra Escondida is next door and was the other contender since the food there was equally as delicious only a little more expensive. The only down was that it took just a little while to be served at times. This was hardly a downer though.

BAR - swings as chairs and a stage for their live music nights which were THE BEST nights during my whole vacation. They do it right at this place with the bongo drums and all. Very ecclectic and very nice lighting on the grounds. The restaurant is candle lit as the grounds are, with some color lighted accents lighting the palm trees.

I really liked the peacefulness of this place. It was just the right amount of people staying (little enough to feel private, but enough crowd to feel safe- the beach town (this area) is pretty much that type of crowd - slow & easy to talk to and befriend if you feel like it... further south, the hotels are more spaced out, some like that, I didn't. I'm the type that likes to wander around on foot & check out things... at Luna Maya you are in the middle of a bunch of places once you hit the beach road. Little store, little market, Trece Lunas for morning coffee, Zamas is to the right if you want to find music or a different meal close by (walking distance--at night this is important, especially important if you are scared of the taxi rides like I was at times---they ALL pass on the oncoming lane of traffic to speed up the drive time) and to the right is Piedra Escondida, Zahra, and a bike rental stand (all walking distance) just to change up the scene and not need to walk a long distance or hail a cab. I really liked that. Copal was even a very short walking distance to get any kind of massage or spa bath you so desire. I really liked that!

WEDDING - it was the best ever ever ever!!! Luna Maya employs a gal named Fabiola who is absolutely adorable & extremely helpful. She speaks great English & made everything simple. She is organized and thorough.Never did the nerves flare as wiht most weddings. Everyone was cool & collected. She arranged for a DJ, Shaman (Charlie & Maria are a must if you are looking to do a Mayan Ceremony), and all the food, cake, & flowers. It truly was a perfect wedding in a very enchanting, spiritual & symbolic fashion - what a wedding should be. Feel free to send me a note if you need further recommendations. I felt very apprehensive using Trip Advisor as a recommendation because of rumors & also because I couldn't find much on this hotel on the Web, so I'll be happy to return the favor to those in need like I was. Just please pardon if I don't get to reply right away, but I'll do my best.

My wife and I arrived at Luna Maya on Dec. 30, 2007, and left Jan 2, 2008...we were there for New Year's. We stayed in the suite and loved it...comfortable, great view, wonderful breeze and sound of the ocean. The staff were helpful and the food was excellent! Luna Maya is a very mellow place...If what you are looking for is excitement, then this isn't the place. If what you are looking for is peace and relaxation in a gorgeous setting, then Luna Maya is an excellent choice.

What a wonderful hotel - the sky suite, the ocean view, the incredible restaurant, I give this place my highest recommendation. The staff was sincerely friendly and helpful. The owners made us feel like we where visiting long lost family. It was refreshing to get away from Cancun to some privacy in the mystical Luna Maya Resort in Tulum. We found our favorite vacation spot. The massages where wonderful, simply amazing. I had a fresh coconut drink and swam in the Ocean or a Cenota (fresh healing spring full of minerals) just a step into the jungle. The receptionist helped us schedule a trip to Coba ruins and an underground cave to snorkle in... I've traveled around the world, and this place is very special.

“Nice but...”

Luna Maya

I totally agree with others that this place is lovely - couldnt agree more actually but there are a few buts... First off the setting is great, beach is great, really chilled out and didnt see any nicer places along the Playa. We didnt eat here as wanted Mexican food but definately looked nice. The buts come in with the service and cabana we were in. Ok we were only there for 2 nights so prob hard to really get a feel for the place but it wasnt that easy to get a hold of staff if you needed to ask something...they do seem to have a good number of staff but were generally off doing other things and certainly didnt take the time to point out things to us or show us round - just there is your cabana, which is fine but would have been nice to be make to feel a little more than just another guest. I also asked if it would be possible for one of them to book me a taxi early in the morning to catch a bus(in my very broken spanish), that was no problem but then none arrived and we ended up missing our bus as no body knew if the taxi had actually been booked (ok we prob should of done it ourselves but this is a hotel and wouldnt have taken much effort). The cabanas are great but for the price i do actually thing they are def aover priced compared to other place we stayed along the way (but then maybe that is the Playa factor). Also since the cabanas are pretty basic, you get a lot of mozzies and sandflies coming in which is no probs as there is a mozzie net above the bed...BUT it has huge holes in it and we really did struggle to keep them out - i just think especially with the cabanas, if you're going to provide a net-at least ensure it doesnt have huge holes in it.
But yeah apart from that it is a really nice place to stay, much nicer than Tulum town.

“An enchanting ambience with wonderful food”

One warm and magical night in October I set foot for the first time in the enchanting backyard of Luna Maya. I was traveling alone in Yucatan and an announcement of live music and good cocktails led me to this hotel.

Immediately I felt at home in this tropical setting. On my right hand I could see the moon reflecting in the sea, on my left, friendly personnel was preparing the most refreshing drinks for the guests. In front of me a Latin band was playing and their music made my body swing lightly on the rhythm.
Since that day I was a regular guest at Luna Maya. In the afternoons I would watch over the turquoise sea while enjoying a soft breeze that was going through the palm trees around me. Most surprised I was by the dishes they served at the hotel.
I found out that they have a menu that is a creative and exciting mixture between Spanish and Mexican delight. Calamares and Fish are fresh from the sea and make the menu even more exciting.

For me Luna Maya means life long friendships, moments of true relaxation and inspiration, the promise of an idyllic environment and an amazing food.
