Just a little "beware" note on having your wedding at Luna Maya. We'd stayed there last winter for a couple of nights and had a wonderful time. It's small, quaint, clean with good food and a nice little semi-private beach. We decided to have our small wedding there because of all those reasons. Fabiola (wedding organizer for their hotel) was a great help. We gave her our date and plans. She pointed us to Charlie & Maria who performed an amazing ceremony - worthy of every cent. The issue was the hotel service / mgmt.
Before I begin, let me say that we were asked to move our wedding date (a month or so before the wedding) in order to accomodate another wedding party. We had such a small group (10 guests) that we decided it would be fine, even though some of our guests would end up arriving on the same date as the ceremony - cutting it close. After meeting the other couple, we had no regrets. They were fabulous people. And, luckily, our guests managed to escape any delayed flights.
We arrived a few days early (as instructed) to meet with the manager and coordinate a few things. Charlie arrived right on time to give us an overview of the ceremony. However, the manager (Giselle) never showed up. The reception clerk called her and seemed to have gotten in trouble for doing so. Still - no show. The next day we asked about her again. Giselle finally showed up that night but nobody ever told us. We asked around and someone had to point her out to us. She seemed bothered, but we were able to organize the menu & bar for the wedding. The day of our wedding, our suite did not have any running water. Beginning at 8am, we informed the staff FOUR (4) times that day of the problem. Nobody seemed concerned. Sure enough, a couple of hours before the evening ceremony we still did not have any water. I had to take a shower in my brother's room and my groom had to use the community shower. Our lights kept going out and we were told that none of the rooms had wall sockets, therefore I could not use my curling iron or any electronics. I do not get shaken easily so I went with the flow and let it go.
What really bothered me was the fact that the larger wedding party (who were wed the next day) "somehow' had access to electricity, blowdryers, curling irons, etc. in their adjacent room. The staff fell all over themselves to help them - including sending their laundry out for cleaning. When I asked about laundry, I was given directions to a "lavanderia" in town.
Unfortunately, for ALL of us the staff dropped everyone after the big events. The morning following the 2nd wedding, none of us could even get a waiter to serve us a cup of morning coffee. Our guests sat in the dining palapa for over 30minutes before figuring out that nobody was going to serve. Of course, reception clerks, cleaning crew and cooks were in full view but nobody bothered to help. We had been thinking about staying longer but went ahead and checked out the next day. We spent the rest of our honeymoon days in Cozumel.
