This was our second stay at the Lobo inn. The owners are wonderful and very helpful. Often taking guests into town on a whim. The breakfasts they serve is amongst the best I've had anywhere. The In is about 2km north of Tulum on the main highway. There is a lot of traffic here and the inn is next to the highway. The noise takes a little getting used to. They now have bicycles for the guests to use - it is not real far from the beach but, it can be a tiring walk in the hot Caribbean sun. A trip into town usually will cost 10 pesos per person on the colectevo (local van service) or about 25 pesos for a taxi.
The Lobo in is about as close to the Tulum archaeological site as you can stay. It is an easy walk across the highway and you go by a shopping area and tourist attraction - shopping center.
I would highly recommend the Lobo inn if you want a reasonable place with nice people from all over the world to visit with. it us not a resort.

“Good people”

Lobo Inn

A very nice family feeling here. Excellent breakfast oriented toward the late sleeper at 9 am. The community feeling is the best I'v experienced. The owners go out of their way to be helpful. The problem for me was the trucks on the highway which are right next to the front rooms. Cynthia moved me to the back which helped greatly. This place is very friendly and the group did activities together such as going to Cenotes. The beds are hard as most places in Mexico. There were bright lights outside that flooded into my room at night. If I didn't have such a great time the noise and lights would have been a real problem for me. Lobo is building some more rooms out back which might be good for people wanting more quiet. I can't say enough about how fun this place is. Go for the experience of community.

We stayed at the Lobo Inn for 4 nights. The hostal is very friendly, fun and well situated. It's run by Cynthia and Lobo, who are very friendly, provide a cooked breakfast each morning and will drive you into town or to the supermarket if you want. The rooms are well priced and clean and there a small pool. The hostal is 20 mins walk from the ruins and beach. We had a wonderful time and definately recommend the hostel.

Staying at the lobo has MANY benefits. Close to the ruins and 1km away from the sea. It's located on the highway so the bus drops you right there. The staff take you on a regular basis to the town (for free) to buy stuff. They can also get you a bike. Great cooking appliances also. The staff is GREAT, they love their job and that is easy to see. The price is great, they serve good breakfast, has a nice swiming pool, table tennis, etc... etc... For me it was a real good experience. Lots of friendly people I found there. No brainer, stay here if you can.

I am torn with this hostel.

Good points: The owners are great, Cynthia is very kind, she drove us to town/supermarket etc and creates a family atmosphere by cooking everyone breakfast each morning.
It is a very social hostel, we made a lot of friends and they are perfectly happy to let people stay up drinking/socialising. The room was nice, clean, modest sized.

Bad points: The noise. The private rooms are on the roadside, this appears to be a main route for big trucks. We struggled to get any sleep to be honest. The location isn't that great either, it's 10 mins walk to ruins and 15 mins walk to beach. Town is a ride in car away.

If you can afford it stay in a Cabana.
