I spent two nights at hotel La Mariposa in August 2007. Apartments are new, quite big, very clean and comfortable, with a/c. The owners are really kind and helpful and will let you feel like art home...or even better!

Moreover distance from shops or bus stop is just few minutes. My suggestion is: try it, you'll love it!

I absolutely agree with "elironac"!

My boyfriend and I had to stay at this hotel for two nights because we weren't able to find another accomodation anymore due to the fact that hotel "Posada Luna del Sur" was fully booked.

Ridiculous: Hotel "Residencia la Mariposa" was 10 US- Dollars more per night (than "Posada Luna del Sur"), although it is even more away from both city center and beach area! Due to the fact that I have already stayed at "Posada Luna del Sur" I can confirm that hotel facilities can't be compared. Neither we had an A/C (which is definately a must- have in summer!) at "La Mariposa" nor a comfortable, spacious and clean room.

The simplicity of the room would have been okay with me if the hotel hadn't been that far away from everything a tourist wants and needs to reach. Luckily we both knew Tulum, so that we just spent as much time as possible outside the hotel.

In addition to "elironac"'s complaint about the noise I would like to verify the fact about the TEDIOUS barking and crowing of the animals around. They arose me from sleep several times.

So if you want to go to Tulum (which is definately one of the most beutiful places I have ever seen) stay at "Posada Luna del Sur" which already has so many reviews I do agree with so that I won't write another one for this hotel.
