“Enchanting Escape!”

La Selva Mariposa

After many visits to the Riviera Maya, we decided to leave the beach and discover another side of that beautiful area of Mexico.
Our visit to La Selva Marisposa was wonderful. It is located only 15 miles from the beautiful beaches of Tulum, on the road to the Coba Ruins. La Selva is an intimate Bed and Breakfast in the mayan jungle (selva). The owners and hosts, Lou and Moe have created an enchanting escape from the rest of the world. Beautiful waterfalls, and pools designed like ancient cenotes provide a peaceful and calming effect. The room was beautiful, and I enjoyed the Guatemalan textiles, and open air shower. We chose th have dinner there, and had a wonderful meal served high in the jungle tree tops. Very romantic! Breakfast was outstanding. We were treated to a tour of the property, and loved seeing many fruit trees, pineapples, avocados, orchids, and a huge array of palms.

We were so happy that we decided to go off the beaten trail, and experience "la selva".

We are about to make our reservations for the upcoming Christmas Holidays and I cannot prevent myself from remebering again our wonderful holidays last year in the Yucantan province: Among some of the best memories is our stay at La Selva Mariposa. The two-bedroom house designed and built by the truly charming owners, Mary and Luis, is absolutely astonishing: a masterpiece of art reuniting anthropology and modern architecture, at its best. Every single detail in the two rooms and bathrooms, deck, patio and cenote-pool, waterfalls and garden bungalow is incredibly well thought through, and amazing. The overwhelming impression is that it is a house made by and for people truly appreciating nature's beauty and natural elements: the construction materials are all both basic and beautiful, the sound of water-fall or rain is everywhere, the breeze in the palm trees caresses you under your shower, birds keep whispering mysterious, enchanting songs from dawn to dusk, shadows and sun-rays play gently on the greens of the amazingly lush garden. This house could have been one for Adam and Eve.

We were with our two teen boys (17 and 14) and they loved it as well: no need for computers or video games here, and they cearly got that the surrounding was the entertainment!

On top of eveything, the breakfast was absolutely excellent, as in a 5-star hotel, and served with incredible discretion and kindness. Mary and Luis take time for you, keep smiling, are inspiring, and create a charming, happy, and loving atmosphere. We are visiting another region this year but I truly hope I will return one day, or may be this was just a first peek into paradise.

In planning our honeymoon, we knew we wanted a place that was nice, central to many historical and cultural sites, and where we could relax. We saw the great reviews about La Selva Mariposa and then found out first hand that it is as good and even better than can be conveyed in these reviews. We only wish we had longer to follow all the excellent travel advice and tips we recieved from Moe and Lou. They even made sure we had bug spray (ours was confiscated at the airport), sunscreen, and towels to visit the numerous 'cenotes' nearby. We stayed for three nights and each morning they provided a different but wonderful breakfast. One morning we set out early to visit Chichen Itza and they packed a breakfast for us to take with us. We especially loved the unique french toast that Lou made for us our last morning there. At nights, it was wonderful to fall asleep to the jungle sounds and the sound of the cascading water fall. It was a great trip and we look forward to making it back.

This was our third trip to the Yucatan, first time at La Selva Mariposa. The hosts, Moe and Lou, were absolutely wonderful. Lou makes a fantastic margarita, and the breakfasts and one dinner we had were top notch. The property itself is a dream, with waterfall falling off the cottage into a cenote-style wading pool, beautifully decorated and comfortable room, great jungle surroundings. 15 min from Tulum beaches, half hour or so from Coba. Don't forget to ask them about the story about the Secret Service. We (Chris and Brenda and daughter Fiona) can't wait to go back.

I enjoyed waking up in the beautiful jungle at La Selva Mariposa. Inn keepers Moe and Loe were very gracious in sharing their experiences. At La Sela Mariposa, you will get personal attention, relaxation and inspiration. There is a lot to do in this are; and Lou and Moe can offer a lot of guidance for the persons exploring the Yukitan. You can also get a Mayan mud massage from Maria next store!
