What a super place! Our room was clean, chic and comfortable. It even came equipped with an ipod deck. Given that they are a boutique hotel, there are only four rooms. This made for a quiet stay and the few guests we happened to interact with were lovely. The common area is stylish and inviting; I felt totally at ease, kicking back by the dip pool and reading a book. Richard and Karen were wonderful hosts and very helpful with suggesting places to eat and spots to visit.
Teetotum is closer to town and in my opinion, that's where you want to be. We stayed on the beach our first night in Tulum. Don’t get me wrong, the beach is gorgeous and it’s a treat to have the waves lull you to sleep, but the accommodations for $160 were hardly worth it (and this was the low season!). We much preferred Teetotum's rates and the convenience of town and were able to take a fresh water shower each day (our beach cabana had a salt water shower).
The hotel is perfectly situated to explore the many sites in and around Tulum. They serve breakfast and lunch, which was always fresh, delicious and beautifully presented (and much less than what you’ll spend on the beach). We live in San Francisco and are spoiled by amazing cuisine, so I was surprised at the many food options we found in town ranging from quality sushi to Italian. I highly recommend Tacos El Pastor (one of Richard’s suggestions, next to the Weary Traveler hostel). We had four yummy tacos, a bottled water and soda for 480 pesos (yes under $5!).
Teetotum's entire staff was great and made our stay so very pleasant. Hands down, this was one of the best lodging experiences I've ever had. I chose Teetotum based on Trip Advisor reviews and it exceeded my expectations!
