We have done a number of all inclusive vacations. We have been to various parts of Mexico, Punta Cana, Aruba, etc. We found this vacation to be one of our favorites.
There were 4 couples that went on our vacation, ages 30-46. We stayed at Riu santa fe for 6 nights. May 24-29. We stayed in 7332. In the building 7. Our view was lovely. It faced the infinity pool and ocean. I was personally glad we paid a little extra for our room. One couple was in building 3 and let me tell you garden view is nothing special.
We did have a little walk to lobby and front buffet... But with all the food we consumed I was happy to do! It wasn't overly a long walk like many say. But for young healthy adults it's reasonable.
Check in was great! All of us girls got a rose and they were so kind. Most amazing front desk staff ive ever dealt with on vacation. They upgraded our friends into building 7 for free so the 3 of us couples who checked in together could all be in the same building. It was their anniversary and not only did they upgrade for free but sent a bottle of champagne to there room.
The food was really good. The buffets are pretty good, not fantastic but the best buffet ive been to at all inclusive. People who dont like the food are extremely picky I think. Our only problem was getting reservations at restaurants. Its horrible!!!! We went to the reception at building 7 and the gentleman was not very helpful. They told me we could only eat one time as a party of 8 and after that we had to separate. I went everyday at 745(they open at 730) and amazingly he told me almost everyday they were booked!!! So frustrating. Maybe try to book reservations at front lobby! I think they are able to take more reservations there. We did end up going to Asian and steakhouse. If you do any of them do the steakhouse! I thought it was wonderful. They give you an appetizer platter, tomato soup, ceaser salad, your choice of entree and an ice cream cake for dessert. Best American food I had there.
The housekeeping is very friendly and helpful. Used our safe in our room so no issues with stealing from us. The safe is just big enough that my iPad fit without a problem if I put in sideways.
Nightlife wasn't anything special at all. Go downtown! They charged us $3 a person in a cab of 8. Less hassle than a bus that makes frequent stops. We ate at mi Casa in Cabo and it was really good! We also stopped at Cabo wabo for drinks and enjoyed a live band there.
The pools are good. The front pool has swim up bars and a crazy spring break atmosphere but it was fun! Ask for rainbow shots!! We also did the quieter pool a few days since the water volleyball is located there. The negative with that is they took the ball net away from us at 5p. No exceptions. And you have to get out of the water to go to the bar. A major negative is there are NO WAITRESSES!! We always see waitresses at other all inclusive resorts but none here. Kinda a bummer when you are laying out opposite side of the the pool from the bar.
We did the zip line excursion. It was So much fun! But a lot of walking up stairs in the heat and sun. I can honestly say we had to of burned 1,000 calories. They offer times 9,12, and 3. We did 9a. They picked us up at 830 and we zipped from 915-1130 1145. Our shuttle didn't come til 1245. We could buy expensive sandwiches for $15 but we held out til we returned to hotel. It was so hot I can't imagine going at 12 or 3.
The sports bar is ok. Large in size but you pay for Skee ball and pool. Ask for smurf shots!! The nice thing is you can use computers in the sports bar. There is almost 10 computer and you just put dollars in the machine for time. $1 for 7 minutes isn't bad at all!!
Take a glass bottom boat over to lovers beach to explore a little and swim in the ocean. The undertoe is too strong at the resort and you can not swim there. It cost us 10$ for the ride to and back a person. We bought it right down on the beach in the little hut under the stairs from pool to beach. They gave you a little history of area, we saw sea lions, they showed you lovers and divorced beach and dropped you off. You can pay to snorkle there if you want. The exact boat would pick you up at whatever time you want. They were very prompt picking us up.
Unfortunately the beds are hard and I slept terrible. We did get woken up a few times by yelling but I easily fell back asleep.
All in all we ended up having a great time! We would go back. Hope this was helpful.
