We rented Cruck Barn for a week. Cruck Barn has incredible views and you can use the owners private land to walk straight to Blencathra. Everyday the view is different - be it a hazy day, rainy day, snow on the fells and mountains...it is breath taking.
We had our dog with us - although dog friendly we had to keep our dog on lead as the garden was not entirely secure.
On one of the days, friends of ours came to the barn to meet us. We had planned to go for a huge walk that afternoon. After they arrived the owner came to the door and seemed quite annoyed that they were there. He later apologised to me which was kind but left me feeling quite embarrassed. I then felt like I could not relax for the rest of the week for fear of annoying him!
The owner filled our log basket up twice and charged £15. I was horrified that two small baskets of logs would cost this much. You're better off going to a local petrol station and picking up your own logs!
The barn itself was immaculate. The kitchen was very well equipped. I was very pleased that we had a huge table to eat around as a family. It was fantastic. The living room seated all of us and we all loved relaxing in front of the wood burning stove. The living style is open planned but it still felt cosy and warm.
There is a lot to do around the location of Berrier. We spent a lot of time in Keswick and went on a fantastic walk from a nearby village of Threlkeld along the old Keswick railway line. This was recommended by the owner of the barn. I was so pleased that he took the time to recommend lots of great walks, pubs and attractions for the kids.
A final tip...if you want to stay in Cruck Barn contact the owner directly! The agencies that advertise the barn charge an extra 25%!
