Booked this hotel instead of our usual because they were renovating and didn't have their whirl pool open. We'll they didn't tell us when we booked but this hotels whirl pool was closed too! It was more expensive and isn't any nicer.

Great location. Far enough from the refreshing project on Banff Ave to not be affected in anyway. Limited underground parking. But hotel was full so parking wasn't a problem. Staff very helpful and friendly. If you are traveling in the summer upgrade to a superior room. The interior rooms have no outdoor windows and we heard the rooms were stuffy. We saw many doors that were opened into the atriium and this was in Sept. Our room had a outdoor balcony and it was great! We choose not to eat at the restaurant due to the previous reviews. Mellisa's right around the corner has a wonderful breakfast. Barpie Bills down the road from the main drag had wonderful Greek Food that was dirt cheap for the area. Bottom line we would stay here again it was the jewel of hotels in Banff.

A lovely hotel in an ideal location. But it let itself down because of the heating. We stayed at the end of September when it wasn't particularly warm (we had snow!) but it was like a sauna inside the bedrooms. Although we had booked a room which opened to the outside (my mother in law had one of the internal rooms which was much, much worse) the heat was such that we had to have the windows open all day and all night. Unfortunately, our room was above the garbage area, and all day and all night bins were being moved, emptied, ransanked...whatever! Add that to the train horns and we found we had 3 very uncomfortable nights.
On the plus side, the staff are excellent. The Caramba restaurant was superb and the location of the hotel is really close to the centre. Be careful if you're going to Banff before the end of November, there is extensive remodelling of their high street, and the dusk and building rubble makes walking around a little difficult if any of your party are a little unsteady on their feet. The poor shop keepers are pulling their hair out because all of the stock is covered in a fine film of dust! But it should be finished soon.
I would probably not stay at the Ptarmigan again simply because
of the heating, not because of anything else. If however you are staying there during the winter, I would expect it to be nice and cosy!

Our entire experience at the Banff Ptarmigan Inn was flawless.
Starting with the very courteous, friendly and helpful front desk and housekeeping staff, right on to the premium double room where we stayed. No A/C, however during our stay we didn't need it. It was very cool in Banff during the third week of August, and simply opening the screen patio door out to the third floor balcony gave us plenty of ventilation. There was also a fan supplied to the room. Wow, and what a view from the balcony. Mountainview. The staff at the Caramba restaurant located in the hotel, were very professional and friendly and the buffet breakfast was a great start to the day! The location is ideal in that it is within walking distance to excellent restaurants and shopping, yet far enough from the bar scene noise on the sidestreets of Banff Avenue. We definitely recommend this property, and will surely return in the future!

I would like to thank the Banff Ptarmigan Inn for a wonderful service during our stay in Banff last weekend, August 24th, 2007. Special thanks to the Front Office Manager for the great service and professionalism that she provided to us, Melanie Cortez.
