Close to town easy walking to all the shops and restaurants. I was not impressed with this hotel. The rooms had terrible lighting, especially in the bathroom. Big room, but the furnishings were minumal. No where to place your luggage - except the floor. Tiny table in the room - no place to do any work.
The ceilings were low - giving a feeling of claustrophia.
The restaurant during dinner was understaffed and the meal was terrible. How can someone ruin a cheese pizza? I had just stayed in 3different hotels in Victoria, Vancouver and Kamloops and all had free internet with a computer for public use - at no charge. The Ptarmigan Inn Charged $1.00 CAD per 8 minutes to use the computer and $.25 per page to print - and then they had no paper in the printer. I would not recommend this hotel.

Well I will start off with the good things first:

1) Good area with St. James Pub near by to forget about the hotel
2) Close to downtown
3) Good hot tubs for cannonballing into and sauna rooms

Now the bad part:

1)Door would not shut properly due to a broken frame
2)Went down for breakfast to find that there was only scraps left for us to eat
3)Temperature was very hot in the room and had to keep the patio door open at night
4)Wireless Internet was down half the time for no reason
5)Maids only made 1 bed and left the blankets folded on the other one half done?!?

Although it is a good priced hotel for being in banff but this is the reason why (you get what you pay for) so spend the extra money and search around trust me...

Just back from a fantastic week in Banff staying at the Ptarmigan Inn. The service and facilities at the hotel were much better than Irwin's Mountain Inn where i stayed earlier in the year (however the price was similar). The Ptarmigan has a great location, close to all the shops, bars and restaurants on Banff Ave. The staff were all very helpful - they even extended our check out time when they found out our flight had been delayed, without us even asking!!
The room we had was big, with 2 comfy queen size beds. We had room at the rear of the hotel with views of the mountains, this was a quite location with no noise (apart from the trains that come through Banff which you can't get away from!).
The food in the Caramba restaurant for breakfast was good to set you up for a day on the slopes!

Booked this hotel instead of our usual because they were renovating and didn't have their whirl pool open. We'll they didn't tell us when we booked but this hotels whirl pool was closed too! It was more expensive and isn't any nicer.
