The reason I consider this hotel terrible is because that:
1. Two queen-size beds vs. One queen-size bed
I booked a room with 2 queen beds. When I arrive at the hotel, I was assigned to a room with one Queen bed. We came down stairs with all our luggages and requested changing to a room with 2 queen beds.
2. One small square glass in the middle of the wall--WINDOW? LOUD vent which is not able to be turned off!!!
I got in the room with 2 queen beds I requested, but, the room did NOT have a window that can be opened. I don't even think it is legal for hotels to have rooms without a window which can be opened. I asked to change to another room with a flexible window, the front desk person told me that they only had a same room available that night on the same side of hotel available-NO WINDOW can be opened to outside. We tried to turn off the loud vent, failed. The vent had been filled with the toilet tissue already--someone stayed in the room was trying to eliminate the noise as well.
3. I thought I paid for the room until 11 a.m. and I had rights to complain noise.
9 a.m. in the morning, I heard someone hammering on my ceiling from upstairs. I called immediately and was told that carpenters were working on the upper floor to change the carpet. I requested that the construction work to start at 10 a.m., request DENIED.
4. Hotel garage was SOOOO narrow, dirty, and very tiny. I could not open my trunk (SVU) all the way up.

The room was clean, but slightly outdated. It is one of those places that spent their last 10 years of reno budget upgrading the facade of the Inn so you think it is a luxury hotel. Once inside you will quickly find out the rest is not. I am a fantastic sleeper, nothing keeps me awake. I was awake all night listening to conversations in the hallway and from about 4:30 on the sound of water rushing through pipes. This was not your usual hotel sound, this was loud. You actually had to talk louder in your room so the other person could hear you. Perhaps we were unlucky with our particular room, but honestly it was awful. I feel that you go to a hotel to sleep, and if you cannot do that there is a serious problem. I would not recommend this hotel.
My boyfriend planned a romantic early birthday weekend for me in Banff and he selected the Ptarmigan for its location and amenities. He got one of the rooms that overlooked the main street, had a fireplace and whirlpool tub. The room was very nice and the bed very comfy. The fireplace was electric and had a timer which was nice. It kept the room very warm. We had a balcony with a door but it was so cold to spend any time outside if not bundled up. The bathroom was huge. There was a bathtub with the whirlpool jets in it but the tub is just normal size, not quite large enough for 2. The shower is kind of small but nice. The vanity is huge. The room, overall, was very comfortable and large.
The restaurant was good for breakfast buffet. We did not use any other hotel amenties but parking. The parking is very tight and you won't be able to find any if you arrive late.
The hotel is very centrally located and we could walk to all shops and restaurants. We did even walk to the Banff Springs hotel but took a cab back, it's qutie a walk.
Overall, this was a very nice place to stay.

We stayed here for a few nights in January whilst going out to Sunshine and Lake Louise. The price suited us and we were happy with what we got for the money, especially as it was really only somewhere to lay our heads at the end of the day. We had a room facing the inside courtyard which was not ideal as it was rather dark but not noisy so not a problem at all.
The big plus for this hotel was the wonderful service we received from the front desk staff who went out of their way to help us with all the queries we had, and we had loads about what to do, where to eat, how to get back to Calgary on public transport (we'd been dropped in Banff by friends). We couldn't recommend this hotel highly enough for the front desk service they give.
We also especially enjoyed the whirlpool baths at the end of a long day!
