We stayed at this hotel in a 1-bedroom condo for three nights and will definately stay there again.

The room was extremely clean and we were able to take advantage of their Fall Getaway package which included passes to the hot springs, breakfast items to cook in the suite (cereal, milk, bread, bacon, eggs, cream), and gondola passes all for under $100 per night.

The front desk wasn't very friendly and seemed to be 'busy' on the computer. Their playcenter is great and also very clean.

Having a tv in the bedroom of the unit would have been great as our toddlers were sleeping in the living room, so when they went to bed we weren't able to watch tv.

“Not worth it”

The pictures on the website, and the descriptions of the room led me to believe I was staying in a 3 star chalet.

While there weren't any bugs or anything, I found the room dingy, mostly clean, dark, small, and although there was a kitchen, it wasn't equipped with many dishes or pots.

The most disappointing part was that the staff were extremely unfriendly. When I was checking in, they seemed like I was bothering them. When I was checking out, they seemed irritated to be there. I even wanted a brochure for a friend of mine and they couldn't be bothered to assist me.

I live in Calgary. There are MUCH better places to stay in Banff especially for the same or a lower price. I will not stay here again.

“Better than we antipcated”

Douglas Fir Resort

30 Aug 2007

We loved the Douglas Fir. After reading reviews and looking at the website we did not have really high expectations, however it was the best family resort which we could afford in August in Banff. What a pleasant surprise. We had a one bedroom condo with a murphy bed in the living room for the kids. New appliances and new counter tops, carpet, etc. made the room look nicer than some of the dated photos we had seen. The staff was great, especially housekeeping. They were all very polite and they were therefore tipped well. For the reviewer who complained of early wakeups, I believe it says in the room or the literature to put out do not disturb signs if you want privacy after 8, as that is when they begin cleaning. The slides and play area were awesome for the kids and a great way to wind them down after a day in the car. One evening the hot tub was cold, but it was just right the other two nights. the steam room off to the side of the slides was nice as well. This is not a five star resort, but it is a very nice mid - upper level place to stay. Especially for families.

We stayed at this place for a couple of days...be careful the website says condo's they are actually 4-plex's so they can be noisy with your neighbors. This is what we stayed in. When we first checked in we went to our condo to find that it smelled like the fire pit was in the middle of this room. We went and told them it was kind of unbearable. One gentleman that worked there was rude and said "what do you expect we have fireplaces in our units" The other was VERY accomodating and understanding and told me that the previous people had a fire and did not open the flu and the room filled up with smoke. He moved us and gave us 10% off our room. I found the rooms to be very dark and kind of depressing. (not a lot of sunshine can enter the room). They were clean for the most part. Housekeeping woke us up at 8:20 am which was annoying. The pool was extremely cold and the hot tub was cold - a girl told me that they just filled it and it would not be warm for 48 hours. The indoor play park was AWESOME for the kids. We would probably not stay here again.

We stayed here for three nights in early August. We had a loft room - double bedroom downstairs and beds upstairs. Whilst I agree with the reviews saying the decor is a little dated this hotel worked really well for us. We were travelling with our son and his friend, both 16 year old boys, and they felt they had space and privacy upstairs - and had a seperate toilet and washbasin which was very useful. The room was cleaned every day - although the standards did seem to vary a little. The dishwasher was also a good addition and soap, detergent etc was all supplied. The boys enjoyed the waterpark and we swam more sedately in the hotel pool which was quieter.
The hotel is in a good position if you are travelling around in that Banff was busy with renovation and we did not have to drive through the town en route to places.
We arrived after a long flight into Calgary and were sent to eat at a hostel acroos the road which was very good value and a good option if tired and needing something to eat!
