“Great service, but a half decent room costs big money!”

We stayed there for 5 nights over two stays during a two week break.

The first time we were given a tired horrible cave like room that was almost impossible to find, and had no hot water. This for 579 dollars a night! It was annoying as it was clearly similar to busy restaurants who give you the worst table they can get away with and wait for you to complain - with jet lag you just don't need that!

I complained the next morning and we were moved without fuss to a much better room with a bit of a view. Beware - there are big differences in the quality of rooms at this hotel and you really do have to pay a lot to get anything decent. Deluxe does not mean deluxe! Make sure you ask for a renovated room.

We later stayed in an Exec suite with a view - lovely room but again even higher price - $890.

That being said - the service at this hotel is really excellent ( except out on the bar patio which was understaffed), the rooms ( if you are careful) are lovely and the food is great. Breakfast in particular is good value. Its very busy though so you have to book for dinner.

I normally dislike high end hotels as they tend to leave you feeling ripped off, but it's actually done really well here with a lot of charm. There is probably no where better in Banff if you can afford it.

As in the other Fairmont properties in the Canadian Rockies, one must conclude that you get what you pay for. You are going to pay a hefty sum regardless, so you might as well pay for the better rooms. They have fantastic views, are of good size with king beds and in tip top condition. Cannot complain about the accommodations here. Staff is also very attentive and friendly. Food is pricey. Would recommend having at least one meal at Grapes, the wine bar. It is very cozy, has a nice selection of wines by the glass or bottle and the food is very tasty. Much better than the larger and noisier restaurants where the fare is good, but not great. Enjoy this oasis in Banff National Park!

Fabulous hotel in the perfect setting. Just a gorgeous place to be. So much attention to detail. The service is outstanding and they pretty much go out of their way to make you happy.
First day there my boyfriend went golfing and I didn't really want to wander around the hotel alone so I decided to stay in our suite (which was perfect, seperate bedroom from sitting area) and order up afternoon tea. I am so glad I did. I felt like royalty.
The view from our room was outstanding and they put a telescope in the room for guest use. I actually spied my boyfriend on the course.
Second day was spent in the mineral pools at the spa. Very nice.
Great place for a weekend getaway although if I had the choice I would prefer weekdays as there are alot of tour buses that come through on the weekends and the hotel is a major stopping point.

After several days of hiking in the mountains we decided it was time for a relaxing few days in a more luxurious environment, and we were lucky to find a good lastminute deal for the Banff Springs Hotel which proved to be exactly what we needed. We were allocated a somewhat small but lovely room in the castle building with a FANTASTIC view over the mountains and the river below - always ask for that even if you did'nt book it, upgrades usually don't come by not asking.
The building is an experience in itself and makes your expectations to your stay rise, and what do you know - your expectations are met with perfect service to make you feel like "king of the Castle". One little word of advise - do not use the computers in the businness centre - they will rip you of for a service that really ought to be free of charge as in most hotels today. Bottomline: Very recommendable !!

“Beautiful Historic Hotel”

The Fairmont Banff Springs

15 Aug 2007

We absolutley loved our stay. Our room was average - we didn't have a view, however, the resort has the most beautiful views and restaurants. The scenery and architecture are breathtaking.

We ate at the Waldhaus german restaurant located on the golf course and river -- I recommend it. The next evening we dined at the Italian eatery -- also very good. The Bellman, valets - wait staff were all friendly and exceptional.
