We were travelling through the Canadian Rockies and the US in the height of summer.
When we pulled up in Banff I was worried about staying in such a well known touristy place, but my husband was keen to stay the night in Banff having had a long drive that day.
We'd been to most of the hotels in Banff and were put off by the $200 a night tariff or we were met by 'no vacancy' signs.

My husband had spotted the Homestead Inn tucked away behind Melissa's Steak House (top steak, great service). the hotel was delightfully pretty with lovely flowers and hanging baskets masking quite a dated motel look, but time was moving on and we needed somewhere to stay.

There was a very friendly and helpful lady at the desk who let us view the rooms she had to offer before deciding to whether or not to stay, we wanted to have a look at the rooms because she was only charging $99 inc. taxes for the night, and given the cost of other hotels in Banff we thought that there had to be a catch! - there wasn't.

We chose a room on the ground floor, although I would imagine that when the snow is down this might be a bit exposed, but the room had a ski and kit store just as you entered the room, so your not traipsing snow into the main part of the room.

The room itself was really big and very, very clean, but a little dated. We had two queen beds, all the normal hotel stuff including a fridge, a large t.v. with Sky and a coffee maker. The bathroom was exceptional with lots of soft towels. The only down side to the room was that there was no air conditioning, but the room did have a fan and the windows could be opened - this said, how many people need airconditioning when for most of the year the temperature is -30?

The hotel is very close to all the main amenities and about two block's from Banff's main street, which had lots of construction going on when we visited, but this didn't affect our stay or the hotels positioning.

I would definitely recommend and stay at the Homestead again.

Was part of a tour group so didn't choose to stay here. When we arrived the outside is offputting, but room was large, very clean with comfortable beds. The addition of a domestic size fridge was very welcome. Good bathroom with plenty of towels, soaps etc. all changed daily.

No elevators but was pleased to be on the 2nd floor so as to minimise any car parking noise. Ground floor rooms have cars parked just outside their doors, so much better to request a higher floor. Hallways and stairs are not enclosed so could be a problem in the depths of winter.

Overall a good hotel which is situated very close to town and walks alongside the river etc.

Unfortunately Banff is in the middle of major construction to the main street but is sufficiently far away not to disturb anyone at the hotel.

Great Hotel! Simple, clean, foot step from main street! But for a hot summer week, no air conditioner in the room, only a ventilator, it's a bit inconfortable! It's the only negative point!

I go there to hike every year and stayed there for 5 days and this is my first time their, I seen other hotels and motels, but i give this one a 10 out of 10.
Extremely clean every day, going out of there way to make sure the bathroom was super clean,
From the placement of the new soap every day the the exact folding of towels, etc
I had a BIG room with a Queen sized bed.
there right beside the best breakfest house in banff.
There right downtown.
Great parking.
Good price !
i would stay there agian no problem, and they will be my first choice next time.

There's stairs and no elevator but i don't mind.

“Super Value”

Homestead Inn

We are in our mid 30's and expereinced snowboard holiday'ers and we were looking for budget accommodation - but somewhere clean with hot water - and close to the action in town. There was plenty of hot water to warm up after a day on the slopes here!

Homestead Inn is a great , great location - right in town and a step away to eateries, shops and bars. Bar food in Melissas Bar next door UPSTAIRS is excellent value - and so is the lager & shots. (Try here first!! - as other eateries / bars have tourist prices!)
The ski bus to all 3 ski areas stops right outside - and you are first on, first off. No messing. You can walk to the nearby recreation centre - and try ice skating or curling - or over to the nearby museums. We also chose to walk half an hour to the Hot Springs Museum and to the picturesque water falls near the Banff Springs Hotel, further out of town.

The rooms are similar to a 3 year old travel lodge - not brand new but clean and certainly not rubbish. We had two double beds, and ensuite bathroom with shower & bath - well lit room - with Canadian sattelite TV. The room was quiet , save for the Train noises from freight on the Canadian Pacific Railway - which you hear throughout Banff - as its a historic railway town!

The room had a full size fridge - so we could eat breakfast in the room - the supermarket is 2mins walk up the street - and the bigger Safeway is 5 mins walk away.

Everyone on the front desk was helpful and polite. We had a problem with our kettle which was resolved immediately (all rooms have a kettle).
The room was cleaned perfectly every day - and even when we slept in till 2pm - after we came back from the shop - it had been cleaned.

I recommend this hotel to the budget traveller who wants clean sheets and a value for money. We'd come back again in the Summer if we had the £.
