We were travelling through the Canadian Rockies and the US in the height of summer.
When we pulled up in Banff I was worried about staying in such a well known touristy place, but my husband was keen to stay the night in Banff having had a long drive that day.
We'd been to most of the hotels in Banff and were put off by the $200 a night tariff or we were met by 'no vacancy' signs.
My husband had spotted the Homestead Inn tucked away behind Melissa's Steak House (top steak, great service). the hotel was delightfully pretty with lovely flowers and hanging baskets masking quite a dated motel look, but time was moving on and we needed somewhere to stay.
There was a very friendly and helpful lady at the desk who let us view the rooms she had to offer before deciding to whether or not to stay, we wanted to have a look at the rooms because she was only charging $99 inc. taxes for the night, and given the cost of other hotels in Banff we thought that there had to be a catch! - there wasn't.
We chose a room on the ground floor, although I would imagine that when the snow is down this might be a bit exposed, but the room had a ski and kit store just as you entered the room, so your not traipsing snow into the main part of the room.
The room itself was really big and very, very clean, but a little dated. We had two queen beds, all the normal hotel stuff including a fridge, a large t.v. with Sky and a coffee maker. The bathroom was exceptional with lots of soft towels. The only down side to the room was that there was no air conditioning, but the room did have a fan and the windows could be opened - this said, how many people need airconditioning when for most of the year the temperature is -30?
The hotel is very close to all the main amenities and about two block's from Banff's main street, which had lots of construction going on when we visited, but this didn't affect our stay or the hotels positioning.
I would definitely recommend and stay at the Homestead again.
