Stayed here for two nights. fine place to stay in banff, if a little overpriced, but seems like most places in banff are. It's about a 15 minute walk to town. you pass other hotels along the way and it's completely safe.
I also stayed at one of the other hotels the same company owns -- the driftwood inn. it was much closer to town and cheaper. the rooms arent as nice as caribou but you do have access to the whirlpool and health club at the place next door.

Nice clean rooms, with 2 double beds with duvet, which is way better than itchy wool blankets, it was just like a typical American room! We went to the restaurant on the first night which stays open till nearly midnight, my sister has very strict dietary requirements and they kindly offered to go off menu for her and mix and match 2 meals which is very rare that restaurants will be so kind to her!

The only thing I could fault about the hotel is the free shuttle bus which runs from early evening until 10.15pm then you will have to walk, which takes about 10/15 minutes and the fresh air is quite sobering but considering the shops stay open until 11pm, I think 10.15pm for last pick up is not very good!

You do have to pay for hotel parking but in hindsight we could have probably parked in the residential streets behind the hotel as there weren't many parking restrictions, mind you an elk might have head butted the car as we saw a few elk roaming one night near our hotel. The hotel is one of the first few on your way into Banff on the main road and when first driving into the car park if you have a big hire car like I did then the access into the car park is scary, especially if you drive through the entrance, just cheat and drive in through the exit otherwise you nearly hit the walls and pillars on the bend down to the car park!

We stayed at the start of our tour of canada. just two nights.
We upgraded our room and asked for a quiet area. Had both with a balcony on the side of the hotel.
Reception was helpful and we were assigned a basic room by our tour company. It was well worth upgrading and they did throw in the car park costs. The room was adequate but no air con which might nhave been needed if we had had the weather that Banff had had the previous week.
The hotel was fine for a two night stay.

“Gloomy Room in Otherwise Cheerful Hotel”

Banff Caribou Lodge & Spa

We spent two nights at the Caribou Lodge during a recent trip to Canada. As appears to be standard throughout Canada, the desk staff were extremely friendly and welcoming on our arrival. We were advised that the room, unbeknown to us, would not be available until 4.00pm and that it overlooked an inner quadrant. We were offered a larger, road-facing room for a modest additional fee and accepted it. The room was indeed large though only had one small window in the corner of the room. It was difficult to tell whether the room faced the road since there was another large building facing us that blocked much of the view. On this basis I would recommend that anybody staying at this hotel ask to see the rooms first before accepting an upgrade. I doubt the room we were originally to stay in would have been any less appealing.
The hotel itself has a warm and friendly atmoshpere. Minor requests were dealt with in a polite and efficient manner by members of staff. We dined on one occasion at the hotel's Keg restaurant. The food was good without being exceptional and the atmosphere seemed a little frantic. The level walk into town is not onerous - it takes about fifteen minutes. Some guests may be a little surprised to discover the Caribou Lodge has no air conditioning. We had a large fan in our room which compensated for this adequately though was a touch noisy. I would certainly be very happy to stay in this hotel again though would be inclined to turn down the offer of a room upgrade. If you do decide to take the upgrade save your hotel receipt and reclaim the tax at the airport.

“Great breakfast shame about the noise”

First surprise is that the hotel is situated right on the main road through Banff ( like most of the hotels in Banff). This road is pretty busy in July. The underground parking is convenient though they now charge for it (when we booked in March it was free!).
May be I'm naive but I didn't realise that you had to buy a park pass to stay in the town of Banff (as opposed to Canmore which is just outside the park ) so be prepared - for a family of four for 10 days this cost about $120.
Our room was small for four people with no air conditioning and no fridge (and ours was superior room).
Though there is no swimming pool at the hotel you can use the nearby pool at the sister hotel Inns of Banff free of charge, our children enjoyed this.
The breakfast buffet was superb and very good value, the evening meals were more pricy but still good quality. (We loved the Rose and Crown for good quality family food.)
Noise is the biggest problem in Banff - so many many people on coach trips staying one night mean there is constant traffic - nearly every morning we were awoken early (sometimes 6.30am) by the reversing bleepers of the coaches outside - only drowned out by the noisiest plumbing system I have ever heard !
But it didn't spoil our stay and the beauty of Banff is worth striving for........
