Our sixth trip to the Canadian Rockies and third stay at Castle Mountain Chalets. We love the location and the spacious, well-appointed chalets. We lived near a train for 21 years, so it seemed like home to us. The central location between Banff and Lake Louise was perfect for our activities. Didn't waste a lot of gasoline runnning up and down the highway. We love the Bow Valley Parkway so traveled it when we weren't in a hurry to get somewhere. With the construction around Lake Louise, the Parkway can be as fast. The property is beautiful and very well kept. We recommend the larger cabins, but if you aren't going to be there much, the smaller ones are fine. Having a kitchen saved us a lot of meal money and time. The Jacuzzi helped relieve tired hikers' feet. We will stay there the next time we visit the Rockies.

“Graet stay forget the trains”

I have noticed that people sometimes write about the trains going through in the middle of the night, forget them and enjoy the fantastic cabins here, I have stayed four times and certainly would not return if the trains were an issue, in fact they add to the experience!

The people who run these cabins are some of the nicest you will meet, going out of their way to accomadte your needs. Also it's pet friendly!

The cabins are great with a choice of luxury or above basic, depends what you are looking for. I prefer the fact that you are staying in one of the worlds top places and away from the hustle of Banff, enjoy the wildlife, enjoy the onsite steam room and enjoy the on site food and drink store, great gifts and one of the best places to stay in the area

Yes, the trains could easily be an issue. We stayed in one of their top models with a jacuzzi. It pointed right at the train tracks. The lay out of the chalet was good, just enough for the four of us. We spent three nights. There is not a lot to do in the area, but if you're looking to be away from the busyness of Banff this works. Until the trains come the scenery is nice and the area is tranquil.

The worst part was that our toilet froze up the last night and there was no staff available to help us. It put a uncomfortable damper on our time. It would have been nice to have a discount for our inconvenience as we had to bail out the toilet ourselves. We realize the time of year meant probably less staff; however, it should have been staffed to adequately accommodate their guests needs.

“Don't Bother!”

VERY disappointed. Spent three nights, and would not recommend this place to anyone! They are small, dumpy cabins with NO amenities. Beds were uncomfortable with cheap sheets and mattress pads that balled up by the end of the night (no one makes the bed during your stay.) The cabin has a small TV, rummage sale furniture, and they don't even supply paper towels in the kitchen! The trains come roaring through the valley day and night blowing their horns (fortunately my son loves trains!)

If you’re looking for something off the beaten path near Banff, I’d check out Baker Creek Chalets down the road. Similar setup, but MUCH nicer with a fabulous restaurant onsite!

“Cute with Character”

Yes, there are tains, and they are rather noisy...but the noise is a refreshing change from the cars roaring by my home in the city, or the sound of my neighbors arguing. After the first night, I didn't notice the trains (and if you have kids, you can put pennies on the track and then retrieve the squished result after a trains goes by).

The location is reasonably central, the chalets are quite nice, and the general store was much more useful than the "gift shops" at other, pricier establishments.
