My husband and I have spent 5 winter vacations at the At Wit's End Bed and Breakfast in Banff, Canada. It's a real house (not an antique-stuffed "inn") with friendly, informative owners and clean, attractive rooms. Each room has a TV/VCR and alarm clock, and the baths are spotless. The room rate includes a full hot breakfast with all kinds of yummy things (but you'll ski or walk off those calories, right?). If you need to catch an early ski shuttle and can't make the 8 AM breakfast, Barbara will pack you an excellent lunch the night before. Although it's a quarter of a mile or less from downtown Banff, only a short stroll across the bridge over the Spray River, the location is very quiet at night. We don't rent a car in winter, so for us the location is great since it's within easy walking distance of restaurants and shops, ski shuttle pick-ups, skiing and hiking trails, and museums and the Parks Canada interpretive exhibits. The B&B is non-smoking (thank goodness!) and the owners have 3 small, well behaved and quiet dogs. The owners can arrange ski passes and so on (we don't downhill ski, so you'd have to contact them for details).
