“THE place to stay”

Paradise Lodge & Bungalows

6 Jan 2008

this was the best property i stayed in during my visit. located between the town and the lake it is convenient, quiet and with beautiful views. i stayed in what is described as a 1/2 saddleback, perfect for one or two people. the rooms were comfortable and clean, the staff (seemingly mainly family members) were friendly and more than willing to help with all requests, from directions to calling for weather reports and even extra coffee packs( which i requested daily being a bit of a coffee addict) speaking of which, the coffee was excellent(seattles best) and the continental breakfast far superior to most, consisting of a large selection of fresh baked pastries, croissants, muffins, etc. the only negative was not having a restaurant onsite but do not let that keep you from staying at this great property. i know i will go back.

We seem to have had a different experience from previous reviewers but I don't think we're difficult to please. We stayed in ten different places in Canada and this was the only one that we didn't find wonderful.
We were put off right from check-in, which was a bit like checking in to a back packers hostel. We had booked a Fairview suite for four nights. You walk into the suite through the bedroom. This is a small, dark, pokey room with only just enough space for two tiny bedside tables, an open fronted hanging rail and, what we later discovered, was a very lumpy and uncomfortable bed. There is nowhere to put your clothes. We ended up putting stuff in the drawer under the TV in the sitting room. It would be impossible for four people.
The sitting area is a bit more spacious but the only way for two people to sit at the kitchen table is if one of you sits in front of the bathroom door. The bathroom itself is a study in plastic!
And it was the bathroom that forced us to move. The only way to turn on the bathroom light (which you have to do each time you go in as there is no window) is to also turn on the extractor fan. This is noisy enough when you do it in your own bathroom but even noisier when next door switches theirs on. And the next door unit is RIGHT NEXT TO THE BEDROOM WALL. So - each time your next door neighbour gets up to go to the loo during the night you are blasted by the sound of a jet engine landing right next to your head.
Of course, we had next door neighbours who didn't turn their bathroom light off until midnight - got up many times during the night - and rose at 6.30 am!!
We tried sleeping on the fold-out bed in the sitting area to get away from the noise but the mattress on this was unusable.
The only positive comment I can make is that they didn't complain or try to charge us for more than the one night when we said we wanted to check out - they almost seemed resigned - and - you can get very good walk-in rates at the Chateau Lake Louise if you're prepared to take the risk.

We stayed in individual cabins (Feuz and Cooper) at the back of the complex and conveniently set back from the main route to and from Lake Louise. Cabins are compact, warm, and well equipped. Free coffee and buns for breakfast at reception. Excellent base for touring the area with some kitchen facilities if you wanted to cater in rather than eat out. Lake Louise Village has excellent restaurants and supplies shopping.
All accommodation is expensive in this area, this was an excellent compromise, giving convenient access to tourism and walking in the area.

Park at Lake Louise and then don't only walk as far as Lake Agnes teahouse, but continue round the lake and over the Beehive. You'll avoid the crowds and get fantastic views. You'll deserve an icecream at the Fairmont on the way back.

I loved this place. Rustic outside, but beautifully updated interiors that still keep the flavor of "rustic". Great furniture; comfortable, cozy bed. We shared a Saddleback Suite with another couple, and it worked great. TV in both rooms; outside door in both rooms. Nice grounds. Quiet. Recommend bringing a night light for the bathroom. Also, there is what I would call a light continental breakfast; not a big breakfast by any means, but sufficient.

My husband and I stayed at Paradise Bungalows on our honeymoon after the Buffalo Mountain Lodge in Banff lost our reservation. The staff and owners were friendly and helpful, and set us up in a Wilson Cabin (#7). The cabin was perfect! Clean and cozy, with a nice little kitchenette (Microwave, sink, mini fridge, coffee maker). We ate croissants and had coffee and tea in the mornings in the common room. The property is VERY well maintained, with a convenient laundry room. There are flowers everywhere and gorgeous grass (lots of "keep off the grass signs" everywhere, and there was almost always a man tending to the landscaping.) At the back of the property there is a wooden swing that faces out to a beautiful view. This is a great place to stay in Lake Louise, perfectly situated close to Moraine Lake, the Chateau & the "town" area where there is a little store and a few shops. If we ever go back to Lake Louise, we would definitely stay again at Paradise Bungalows. We loved the privacy and charm of the cabins, and preferred this to the feel of a giant hotel.

We had to move from our Wilson Cabin into the Suites after two nights, because they had squeezed us in at the last minute. We liked the suites, but prefer the cabins. The suites don't have the cabin feel or the same charm, although they are also very clean and comfortable. The suite had a much better TV than the cabin, a much larger flat panel. Also, the airflow in the suites is not as good, as in our "half saddleback" there were only two windows near the door that could be opened for air, and we kept the curtains closed because the windows faced the road/walking path and people could have seen straight into our bedroom if they were open.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — The cabin was wonderful. The staff/owners take pride in their business and it shows.
    • Disliked — We didn't love the half-saddleback suite, after being spoiled for two nights in a Wilson Cabin. Definitely book the cabin!
