We had an incredible 20th anniversary trip in the summer of 2007. Stayed at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort for the first 3 nights then came over to Lake Louise for the remaining 5. Baker Creek was very accomodating, as we arrived somewhat late in the evening, after finding ourselves almost to Jasper on the Ice Fields Parkway after 6 or 7pm. We called and they were fine with our late arrival.
We stayed in one of the Jacuzzi Suites in the lodge and it was plenty for us. The pictures on the web site are very accurate and it was probably twice the size of a hotel room. The kitchenette was a bit outdated...well, it was fine, and it was nice to have an oven, but the refrigerator was pretty small and below the counter, so it was a bit inconvenient to get into. Also, no light in it, as I remember. The dishes were all nice and clean, and it had stove burners, an oven, microwave, sink and places to do "kitchen stuff." We kept our breakfast and lunch food in the kitchen, including milk and ice cream (WHOA! $9 for a half gallon of ice cream at the local grocery in LL and the freezer was one of those dorm room refrig types of freezers - very small). The room was nice in a rustic/nostalgic kind of way, and very clean. I loved having the fireplace, but one thing you should know if you're staying during the summer is that it actually is the heat for the room. So, I was disappointed that we couldn't just have a fire for the evening with it getting just too hot. I'd imagine it is very nice in the winter, but even with a window open in the cool evening, it got too hot to have it on for more than 10-20 minutes.
The staff were always very nice and accomodating and helpful. I ran out of memory on my camera, but had a USB drive and they let me use one of their computers to transfer the files. Also, the lobby in the office building was nice, though we didn't really hang out there - why would we, with those mountains all around!!??
We did eat at the restaurant one night and, while it was good, it wasn't knock your socks off good. That was a bit disappointing given the rave reviews we had read in Trip Advisor beforehand.
Location-wise, it is very well situated. About 8 miles from the Lake Louise town, and out in the woods, it was very quiet. But, close enough to not feel like you were loosing time driving places, which is one of the main reasons we stayed here instead of in Banff (which was a nice, quaint enough tourist town - I would have been happy staying there, though some other reviews say it's touristy - I thought it had a lot of character).
As for Banff Park...amazing! I honestly still feel, 7 months later that I really have no need to travel again. Yes, it was that good. We hiked a total of 40+ miles on 5 different day hikes, including the Yoho valley (DON'T MISS TWIN FALLS!!!!!!), Bow Glacier Falls, Morainne Lake trails to Eiffel Lake (somewhat of a disappointment, but still pretty neat) and to the (??) Meadow, Plain of Six Glaciers (my favorite place in the world!!) and Lake Agness complete with 2 tea house visits (it was very cold on the Plain!) (oh, and we heard, but didn't see :-( the Victoria Glacier calving!), and Lake Annette in the rain! (is that 6 hikes?) Anyway, we both were just blown away by the place - the glaciers, mountains, rivers, lakes - all amazing and worth it in their own right, let alone all together in one place!
Oh, and while I was finding pictures, I remembered our amazing nachos and soup snack-dinner (we ate our packed lunch at 5:30 at the foot of Twin Falls [no, I'm not giving you a picture - you have to go to Twin Falls to experience it!]) and walk alongside Emerald Lake. Ahhhhh...
If you haven't been, GO! And, bring good hiking boots, and lots of $$ - the place is expensive.
