“Views of the Rockies Amazing”

Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre Jasper

20 Apr 2008

We stayed here for 5 days and we could have stayed longer. Comfortable, clean, polite and friendly staff and good food. If you are skiing at Marmot Basin there is a courtesy shuttle bus that will take you to and from the hotel. Good sized pool and 3 hot tubs, great to soothe the aching muscles after a day on the slopes. Woud definitely recommend the Sawridge. Food reasonably good, although we ate breakfast at a restaurant next door - The Utopia, which does fantastic breakfasts for a great price and very friendly too.

“Just a place to sleep”

Hotel rooms in Jasper (a very popular mountain town in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta) are very expensive. You must compare apples to apples when booking a room in Jasper. You will get much less for $200 in Japser than you will get in another (less popular, less mountainous) locale. As long as you know this, you will find the Sawridge a fine place to lodge for a night or two.

The Sawridge offers rooms that look in on an Atrium or out to the parking lot. If you feel somewhat claustrophobic and appreciate a breath of fresh air while you sleep, ask for a room on the outside, facing the parking lot.

Rooms are average; they offer nothing special over say, a Best Western or a Holiday Inn found along the highway. The rooms are clean and well equipped. The beds are average, but they lack the special mountain town touches like down-filled cotton-covered duvets.

The hotel has a woodsy charm which many may find pleasant. The front desk staff is efficient and helpful. Bellmen handle luggage.

No need to wander for food as the hotel has a very good diningroom, and lounges. But if you prefer to eat elsewhere, Jasper has excellent restaurants (in all budget ranges) and grocery stores (there is an in-room refrigerator).

Various services and amenities are available at the Sawridge including an indoor pool, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, Internet access, and an on-site spa.

Overall, the Sawridge provides a safe and somewhat comfortable room, but you'll only sleep here for a few hours anyway; your real goal is to spend time roaming the charming historic Jasper streets, or visiting the amenities of the park, or skiing, or breathing in the fresh mountain air.

“Overpriced”

Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre Jasper

8 Oct 2007

We were given a room facing the atrium. This meant that we were not able to get any fresh air as we did not have a window to the exterior. This also meant that we had a disturbed night as there was a wedding reception taking place downstairs and we could hear loud music until 2am.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Sawridge Inn and Conference Center. The rooms were large and very clean, the hotel staff were friendly and the environment was great. We had to walk to the shops but it wasn't a long walk and it was nice to be away from the crowds. The view outside the hotel was just breathtaking!

“Nice hotel on edge of town”

We stayed here 06.08.07 and 07.08.07 on our Rocky Mountaineer trip. The room was very clean and spacious and the bed was comfy. Even had complimentary bathrobes.

Although we didn't eat at the hotel due to reading other reviews we walked along the road for a cheaper breakfast we did use the basement bar. It was friendly and inviting and we had a few games of Pool.

The walk to the main area of Jasper was about 20 mintues but the loaction was still excellent as it served as a very good base.
The only down side was when we turned up there was our coach and 2 more coaches and only 1 person on reception. However when we needed a taxi the following evening reception organised one for us.
We ate out at Earls in Jasper which was very nice... especially as we got an outdoors seat so over looked the mountains.
We also visited Pyramid and Patricia Lakes as well as Medicine Lake and Maligne Caynon. They were great.

Be prepared to spend a long time on the Jasper Tramway as waiting times are quite long.
